This is my 2nd favorite film of all time. Malcolm X being my first. Also, some of JFK assassination footage in the film was used by Spike for Malcolm X with Oliver's permission.

So happy that you spoke about Donald Sutherland's contribution to the movie. His ex-military intelligence officer giving Garrison a detailed point by point explanation of every aspect of the conspiracy is astounding, I've watched the video of this scene on RU-vid more times than I can count. It's also backed up by the brilliant music score which matches it to a tee.

@aaronz7056
@aaronz7056 6 месяцев назад
"Astounding..." Mr. X's claims: a) 112th Military Intelligence Group ordered to "stand down." Flatly contradicted by sworn HSCA testimony of C.O. of Group, which in fact provided extra men to assist Secret Service in Dallas. b) Open windows in Dealey Plaza prove conspiracy. Flatly contradicted by films showing Kennedy riding in open parades in many other cities surrounded by open windows. c) Turn in Dealey Plaza proves conspiracy. You can't drift between lanes in Dealey Plaza to get to the onramp for the Stemmons Freeway to get to the Trade Mart, and don't think Stone and Garrison both didn't know that. d) Mr. X, in New Zealand, reads news stories about Oswald before Oswald was even charged. Oswald was officially charged at 11pm that night, plenty of time for his background to be investigated in newspaper files. e) D.C. phone system out for hours after the assassination. Phone system was indeed overloaded but most calls went through just fine.

Do you prefer the directors cut or theatrical?
@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia

I watched them both this year and I would prefer the theatrical because of one scene in the courtroom towards the end in the directors cut. I was glad that was cut but it also doesn’t hurt the film so even though the directors cut is the only one in 4K I don’t mind it but still prefer Theatrical.

I think the only way to watch the full version which is with the bonus material and 4 episodes of the mini series which is what was on Showtime at this link. shoutfactory.com/products/jfk-revisited-the-complete-collection I’ve never seen that mini series so I don’t know if it combines elements from the doc with it or if it’s own thing all together. Sone people in the comments think that this set includes the film JFK and that’s why it says 6 hours but it doesn’t. It’s that 2 hour doc then 4 mini series episodes.

Film's opening credits note it's partly based on Jim Marrs' book Crossfire. Here is Marrs' real record: a) Spent years giving his middle finger to the family of a decorated police officer who lost his life in the cause of his duty as he accused the man, without evidence, of being a conspirator and traitor so long as it suited his crackpot "theories," the pain he caused them with his words be damned. b) Made up a bogus "mysterious deaths list of witnesses" where everybody on it either had little or no connection to the case or else he misreported their causes of death to sound more "sinister." A couple of them weren't even dead. c) Gave us the "multiple clones of Oswald running around Dallas idiocy hot out of a re-run of "Mission: Impossible." d) Gave whole lectures demonstrating UFO's and flying saucers are 100% real. Film's opening credits also note it's based partly on Jim Garrison's book, in which Garrison lies about the 3 tramps not being ID'd and cleared, about the parade route being changed, about Oswald being in the TSBD doorway during the assassination, etc. Oliver Stone can't praise these two highly enough.

"Mr. X" of course is a fictional character based on L. Fletcher Prouty, who Stone snapped up as an advisor. The real Prouty implicated his own boss as being present in Dealey Plaza, never mentioning that same man had kicked Prouty out of his job at the Pentagon for being such a paranoid fruitcake. Among Prouty's many claims: - Korean Airlines flight 007, which the Soviets freely admitted to shooting down in 1983, was actually brought down by a bomb planted by the CIA - Princess Diana assassinated by a "Secret Team" - Roosevelt assassinated at behest of Churchill - flying saucers are real...

@aaronz7056 That’s a great point, I really can’t debate that. I would say this is less Propaganda then that film was because of the times when they came out and it was easier to point out to the public in 1991 that this is a film and you shouldn’t take it on fact. I hope anyone who watches any movie at this point does the research either before or after to figure out what is fact and what is opinion. Honestly even documentary’s for the most part are trying to get a message across from their point of view. Some just lay out facts but those might not be as intriguing for the viewer!

@@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia And some, like JFK, are deliberately packed with lies and slander.
@aaronz7056
@aaronz7056 6 месяцев назад
Just some of the lies Oliver Stone knowingly tells in this movie: Stone: Oswald a lousy shot. Truth: Oswald scored 18 out of 20 in rapid fire at targets 200 yards away as per his Marines scorebook. Stone: Witnesses inside building never see Oswald coming downstairs. Truth: Those witnesses, who couldn't even keep their own times straight, came downstairs after Oswald did and hilariously Stone never explains how the "real assassins" got away because they never saw them either! Stone: Mayor Cabell changes parade route to assist assassins. Truth: Parade route was never changed, accurately described in the newspapers from the beginning. Cabell was appalled by the assassination. Stone: Conspirator has fake, distracting seizure in plaza, disappears. Truth: Jerry Belknap went to Parkland Hospital after recovering from real seizure. Stone: Recreation using 2 actors seated bolt upright, facing forward, demolish Arlen Spector's "gross lie" of Single Bullet Theory. Truth: Connally was seated lower, inboard and turned sharply to his right, strengthening Single Bullet Theory. Stone: 3 shots over 5.6 seconds. Truth: Victims' reactions in Zapruder's film clearly demonstrate 3 shots over 8-9 seconds. Stone: 3 assassins disguised as tramps fake-arrested, disappear. Truth: 3 tramps are Harold Doyle, John Forrester Gedney and Gus Abrams, they were ID'd that same day, cleared and released with no evidence against them, their arrest records existing to this day. Stone: Open windows in Dealey Plaza confirm conspiracy. Truth: Kennedy was filmed many times riding through other cities in open parades surrounded by open windows all over the place. Stone: 112th Military Intelligence Group ordered to "stand down." Truth: Flatly contradicted by sworn HSCA testimony of C.O. of Group, which in fact provided extra men to assist Secret Service in Dallas. Stone: Officer Tippit attacked by two shooters. Truth: Clemons' words (and she didn't even see the actual shooting) make it clear enough she saw at best a shooter and bystander, and hilariously Stone never mentions other witnesses much closer to Tippit than Clemons firmly said there was but one shooter. In fact, Oswald was ID'd by nearly a dozen witnesses. Stone: Police invade theater to arrest man for not paying admission. Truth: The man, Oswald, was a good match for the suspect just seen murdering a cop nearby. Stone: Mean cops rough up helpless Oswald. Truth: Oswald tried to shoot the first cop to approach him and fought so violently 3 officers were injured just disarming him. [Those officers risked their lives to capture their suspect alive as per their duty, but Stone doesn't care who he paints as a conspirator so long as it suits him...] Stone: Jean Hill sees knoll shooter, is immediately seized, sequestered and menaced by sinister agents. Truth: Hill never made these claims during the whole of the 1960's, nor does she mention any of it while interviewed on live TV the day of the assassination. Stone: Limo full of bullet holes. Truth: Only damage is a crack caused by a bullet fragment that also damaged the chrome plating, from the inside. Stone: "Back and to the left." Truth: Direction a person's head goes is meaningless regarding what direction the bullet came from, it's not like being punched by a fist. Kennedy's exit wound plainly seen exploding at the temple is consistent only with a shot from behind. All bullets and fragments ever found were matched to Oswald's rifle. Stone: Everything pertaining to Beverly Oliver character. Truth: Oliver is demonstrable liar and a notorious grifter who could not possibly have been the Babushka Lady. Stone: "Stretcher" bullet planted at hospital, by Jack Ruby, no less. Truth: That bullet was matched to Oswald's rifle and hilariously Stone never explains how anybody planting a bullet within one hour of the shooting could possibly have known a bullet needs planting at all or that he's not simply planting one bullet too many into evidence and blowing the whole plot. Stone: Lee Bowers murdered. Truth: Bowers's words made it clear he saw exactly nothing that would threaten any conspiracy, he didn't die until some 2 years after he had already testified, and his car accident was investigated by the police, the HSCA, and researcher David Perry, none of whom found any evidence of foul play. Stone: Guilt-ridden David Ferrie starts co-operating, is murdered. Truth: Ferrie died of Berry aneurysm, always hotly denied any knowledge of the assassination, and was preparing to sue Garrison for harassment. Stone: Garrison advised by mysterious Mr. X. Truth: Mr. X never existed, he was based on notorious kook and crackpot Fletcher Prouty, the man who proved flying saucers are real. Stone: Oswald a patsy, as he claimed. Truth: Watch the entire clip and he only says he is a patsy in relation to being hassled by cops for having lived in Russia, and in fact he never tried to blow any conspiracy to anybody. Stone: Air Force One's departure was a "getaway" to steal Kennedy's body. Truth: After the assassination, nobody knew if this was the opening volley of WWIII or who they dared trust. It was important to get Johnson back to D.C., he refused to leave Jackie Kennedy behind, she wouldn't leave without her husband's body. The last thing anybody was sweating was some local official nobody knew telling them they weren't going anywhere. Their understandable attitude was sue us, we'll come back and apologize later if nuclear war hasn't broken out in the meantime. Stone: Autopsy faked. Truth: Stone never explains two things, how you safely approach scores of doctors, pathologists, x-ray technicians, photographers, ballistics experts, Secret Service agents, FBI agents, military personnel, witnesses, etc, and persuade them all to obey illegal orders and bend over backward making themselves all eternally loyal accessories to murder and treason, or how altering wounds, faking evidence, committing mass perjury, bluffing their way through subsequent investigations and piling cover-ups atop cover-ups is a BETTER idea than just leaving well enough alone and saying Oswald must have had an accomplice who got away, which would have suited any conspiracy just fine. Stone: Garrison uncovers Clay Shaw as a conspirator. Truth: Garrison's crackpot "case" against an innocent man whose life he ruined hinged on a witness so unreliable he never appears in the movie and fell apart like a house of cards within minutes of reaching his hand-picked jury. Stone: Garrison uncovers a conspiracy to assassinate Kennedy. Truth: The real Garrison implicated the FBI, CIA, Secret Service, Dallas PD, the Chief Justice, the entire WC staff, 2 TV networks, 3 major newspapers, the oil and aerospace industries, 3 governors, Ronald Reagan included, Johnny Carson, Bobby Kennedy, NASA, Cuban guerrillas, neo-Nazis, John Birch Society, White Russian Community, 13 State Regional Democratic Organization, a man who had made inflammatory comments about Kennedy and had been in El Paso during the assassination, a Marine buddy of Oswald's Garrison decided was an Oswald "lookalike," lawyers defending people Garrison suspected, conspiracy authors critical of him (at behest of CIA), the telephone company ("an extension of the US government"), and, of course, "the homosexuals..." There are dozens more.

@@LetsTalkEntertainmentMedia Well, I'll acknowledge a MOUNTAIN of stuff he just made up and cashed in on. If Stone had walked the walk he would have made a movie based on the actual evidence, but God knows he has an axe to grind with America. Look at his idiotic 9/11 "theories." You have any idea how often I've had conspiracy theorists lecture me "You want to know the truth about the coup that overthrew Kennedy? You need to see Oliver Stone's kick-ass movie!" Of course your average moviegoer would see this big budget blockbuster and assume everything they were seeing was true. As I noted, Stone happily portrayed a lot of innocent people as being conspirators, starting with those officers who risked being shot themselves as they captured their cop-killing suspect alive. What kind of a human being does a thing like that? Stone, of course, may have known full well he was full of it, but he still had the nerve to make the talk show circuit demanding that we should all "applaud" that lunatic Garrison for ruining an innocent man's life. It was beyond despicable. Who speaks for Shaw, or those cops, or for Cabell, or for Belknap?
