A Mayday for a blown tire seems a little excessive... Perhaps they thought there was a bigger problem initially?

Not a pilot, but sounds like 5424 was about to land on the same runway after them taking off, so seems reasonable to ward off the potential collision.

@@AySz88 That shouldn't really be an emergency. That's normal for a rejected takeoff.

Maybe yhey could have made it a pan pan pan for a blown tire so any plsnez coming in to land could either get down wuivk​@AySz88 quick and clear runway ir fo a ho round and let him land I guess when uouve got o ne tire less on landing it can ho wrong

Try live transcriptions if you have trouble understanding some of the blocked chatter.

I perfectly understand blocked conversations, but there is no point typing it twice. And sometimes you can't do copy/paste because they add something to it, so I have to check it again. 🙂

If only tower didn’t give a landing clearance while the runway was still occupied and they had a proper standard go-around procedure in place, tower could have attended to the emergency right away...

Thats not how American ATC/NAS system works. At complex airports such as JFK or any of the other "major" airports as you would call it require controllers to be a starter facility first which is low level traffic and then they transfer into these facilitys with experience. JFK as it happens has a system called ASDE-X, asde model X which can give controllers warning for runway and some facility have ASCC which does the same for taxiways and runways if there are incidents like that in the apst (anc, sfo etc). The American airspace system is made for efficeny, the ICAO system is not efficent at all. Being able to clear multiple people to land at once while doing depatures is excellent, at an airport without the ASDE or ASCC system they cannot line up and wait while issuing a land clearance but with that it will alert them if they need to send someone around. the american system is 100% safe, blab about the runway incursions all you want, we havent had a major incident and most likely never will
