A new book by former Secret Service agent Paul Landis, who was protecting JFK on the day he was assassinated, is expected to challenge the Warren Commission’s "lone gunman" theory.
Landis raises new questions about the possibility of more than one shooter being involved, as the Biden administration and National Archives have made thousands of additional documents related to the assassination public earlier this year.
Vanity Fair reporter and author James Robenalt, who spoke with Landis, joins NewsNation Now to discuss the latest theory.

I don't believe it was an institutional conspiracy but rogues in the National Security Establishment and a cover-up by a government that used the excuse of avoiding a nuclear war with the Soviets (LBJ pressured the Chief Justice who headed the new President's Commission, which averted an independent Congressional investigation).

Random note: In 1978 I was living in DC and my female boss invited me to her family's Thanksgiving dinner because she knew I was alone. Her Dad was a Special Agent of the FBI and she always bragged to me that he was "good friends with the Director" (Hoover). So, I went to this sprawling farm out in the Maryland suburbs for Thanksgiving dinner - just my bosses immediate family and me. While the ladies were making dinner me and the old man and his son were having a drink in the den. I was 26 and just making conversation - I asked the old man what he really thought happened to JFK. Man, the guy morphed like a werewolf - I had struck one helluva nerve. His face got beet red, the veins in his neck stuck out, and he went on a rant. Pardon my language but the guy's words ring in my ears. He barked that JFK was a "goddamned communist" and a "fucking whore monger" and that he and his brother "got what they deserved". He went off - I can't even remember what he said after that part....this guy was like a rabid dog. I kinda tuned out....the whole thing felt so freaky. JFK was not nearly dead enough for this guy. This is our FBI, kids. I will never forget that exchange as long as I live. I have the guy's obit - found it online. He was a Special Agent in '63, by the way. He struck me as a complete lunatic - and it certainly confirmed, to me, that some members of our intelligence agencies wanted Kennedy dead. I'll never forget the day JFK died and I will never forget the words of that FBI guy. I think our government is rotten to the core, to be completely honest. Funny too, this wretched old fart retired from the FBI and ended up teaching criminology at a community college - what a bad joke. And we're supposed to be the "good guys"? Okay. And they found a random guy to kill RFK. Someone who did not have any motive whatsoever. Just think if RFK had become POTUS, we would have found out really happened to JFK for sure 1000%. You deny that every bullet or fragment ever recovered was matched to the Carcano, or were of similar enough composition that they were from the same manufacturer’s lot. The windshield was one of the items hastily replaced, to get the vehicle ready for LBJ. Bobby would have ordered everything left intact, but Lyndon, who was due to be dropped from the ticket, gleefully got sworn in right away, and swept aside deep inquiry. He claimed it was to allow healing. It was actually to hide his tracks. Before the British investigation, I used to have a theory. If LBJ got dropped from the ticket, he would never be able to run for President. But as long as Connolly was alive, he could never e governor of Texas. I believed he had arranged a hit, to take out Connolly, hence the windshield bullet hole. The theory would be, someone went after Kennedy and missed, so Connolly would be a dead hero, and Johnson could run for Texas governor. Kennedy dying was an accident, but that boorish oaf Johnson could not wait 30 days to swear in. That made me suspicious. He claimed he did not want the communists to get bold. But he would have been fully able to run the country as Vice, since the President was incapacitated. The British believed LBJ was involved, too, albeit with Mafia, Cuba, and CIA (the latter being iffy to me, although Jack had implied he would pull troops out of Vietnam, after the Dallas trip).

I have done a lot of research on the JFK assassination & i will NOT stop until we find out the truth. Like Jim Garrison said though "it might become a generational thing passed down from father to son, mother to daughter" until we find out what really happened. We not only owe the truth to ourselves & our country but, mostly to the family of John F. Kennedy & everyone else that suddenly died right around the time of the assassination all the way up to the time that the Warren Report came out. The fact that our government is still stating they can't release ALL of the classified documents because of "National Security" after almost 60 years tells us that it was our government that assassinated our President. @@mariamatheson5300 i don’t know. We can speculate. Maybe it’s about the fact that FBI had Oswald under ”the radar” because of his association with the other big super power (lived there for over two years) and the fact that he was a former marine and had been stationed in Japan? They weren’t sure if he was a real defector or just disillusioned at that time. Imagine having the soon-to-be assassin of the President in your records years prior to that fateful November friday in Dallas? Pretty embarrassing. And also the fact that the documents may reveal names of people now gone who was responsable for letting Oswald slip through their fingers? We can only speculate. If you read the Warren Commission report (as I have done twice) you’ll find it’s really thorough and all the evidence point to Oswald. His possession of the rifle and the 38 special, both ordered by mail to his post box. His wife is a reliable witness for Oswald handling the rifle and the gun at their home in both Dallas and New Orleans and later in Irving at the Paine’s residence. His neighbor driving Oswald to work on the 22nd with Oswald brining a brown package containing “curtain rods” to the car and later to work. Seven witnesses seeing the murder of Tippit (either the shots or the direct aftermath), all identifying Oswald as the killer, and more witnesses seeing a fleeing man, two wich saw him enter the Texas Theatre a couple of minutes after. The attempt to kill Genereal Walker on april 24 the same year with (most probably) the same rifle and 6.5 caliber as on November 22nd. There’s just so many evidence pointing to Oswald. His palm print on the rifle and palm- and fingerprints on the boxes at the sniper’s nest on the sixth floor at The Texas School Book Depository. Him taking a bus and then taxi to the suburb of Oak Cliff (bus stamp and taxi driver witness) to pick up the revolver and the zip jacket at his rented room (landlandy witness) found under a car at a parking lot near the Texas Theatre (by the police). Surely these multiple eye witnesses could tell the directions of the bulletS that hit JFK and they even RECORDED his assassination with precision and accuracy, no human errors. The Warren Commission could only talk to these nearby eye witnesses and see their pictures and videos and analyze their testimonies too and concluded easily and fast EXACTLY what happened and from what direction JFK was shot. No need to do investigation on his bloody limousine to fund our from what direction he was shot, or the investigation on, the book depository, or attacking and beating up an innocent man in a movie theater located at a far away location (Oswald), no nothing else, just these line of eye witnesses investigations would've been enough. *Some say most of these close eye witnesses were assasinated too later in their lives,* only the ones who were standing in far away locations survived. There's an avalanche of evidence which completely disproves The Warren Commission's report. I thought the whole thing was bullshit when it happened and I was only eleven-years old - I'm 71 and I've only become more and more convinced over the years that this was a hit and there was more than one shooter. There was a mountain of powerful people who wanted Kennedy dead - including elements of our own intelligence agencies - and they got it done. I am astounded that anyone exists who still believes Oswald acted alone - I think, very possibly, Oswald was not even a shooter. I don't think Oswald "acted" in this thing, at all. @@microatmospheremicrosend Bits of bone and brain matter were ejected backwards with such force that the motorcycle patrolmen thought that they were were hit. That can't be from the wind. On good copies of the Zapruder film, you can see matter ejected backwards onto the trunk. Most fragments including blood and brain went backwards. The doctors at Parkland all saw an avulsion or exit wound at the back of the head. The theory that George Hickey did it, unfortunately won't go away but the Bronson film taken from the other side proves he did not raise or point his AR15 at the appropriate time to have shot JFK. (Howard Donahue's ballistic analysis though shed further light about the possibility of a frangible bullet being used, which was not the ammo of the Mannlicher-Carcano). The splash at the side of the head is back-splatter from a frontal shot as explained by the late Sherry Fiester CSI, which is a well-documented aspect of gunshot wound dynamics.
@microatmospheremicrosend
@microatmospheremicrosend 4 месяца назад
Thank you for your time and efforts to study the details of the JFK assassination. EVERYONE should find the TRUTH. The primary proof of the AR-15 kill shot from behind with a horizontal, path is the latest restored Zapruder film showing the blood/brain splatter cloud from JFK moving toward the windshield. Some also moved upward so the wind and car travel would catch small pieces to project it at the cops with some stinging speed. It also sprayed all over the car's interior. That near explosive effect on JFK's head could not come from the LHO gun./bullet. There is also the autopsy evidentiary photo of the back of JFK's head, clearly of a bullet ENTRANCE wound. Those effects match precisely all high speed photography of bullets hitting objects with a shell and soft wet material inside. Such as a cantaloupe. There simply is no visual content showing George Hickey at or near the time of the headshot, unfortunately. But there are visuals of his unusually high location of his head, due to the two suitcases he had strategically placed there, providing his clear unobstructed view of JFK's head. I searched exhaustively, in detail, and it certainly isn't there. The timing of everything must fit with all the details, and my account incorporates that properly. @@d.g.s.7699

A group of British investigators, years ago, published a documentary program, well-researched, that described multiple hit teams from persons who had grudges against Jack. I tend to be scrutinous, which is why the single bullet theory, or the Oswald alone theory, never felt right; but it is why I was extremely observant, as I reviewed the presentation. It made sense, was not merely plausible, but probable. In a book which I had read, a few years prior, the handling of the crime scene, which included the limousine and the body and clothing, was absolutely botched. That the Secret Service cleaned and repaired the limo without taking pictures or saving samples, with no forensic examination, is beyond inexcusable. FBI got kept away, and Dallas PD did not push, although they had an agenda of their own. Even the haste of Johnson's swearing in, which took away the influence of the widow and the Attorney General, allowed this superficial behavior, and the incompetent or deliberate obscuration of truth. In a side note, under US law, we have been wrong to declare Oswald as Kenney's killer. Since he never stood trial, he may be called a suspect, but not declared guilty. Indeed, in a mock trial, he was acquitted, as he should have been. These denials of the Warren Commission and Dallas Police conclusions, all make sense, under the standards of investigation and evidence, which got shamelessly violated. I have not let go of the belief that LBJ was heavily involved in the cover-up, perhaps the crime itself. I truly believe the paranoia, megalomania, and guilt of his situation, moved Johnson to the bizarre behavior, and ultimate refusal to run again.
@cforestmills

There were definitely at least two or more shooters shooting at President Kennedy in Daley Plaza that fateful November day in 1963 ! SHOT No. ONE - hit JFK in his throat as JFK initially reacts by instinctively grabbing at his own throat (shot made from the front which penetrated the Presidential limousine's front windshield), Shot No. TWO - struck JFK in his upper right side back (with no exit wound - possibly the "pristine bullet" which was later found by S.S. Agent Landis) in the Presidential limousine at ParklandHospital, Shot No. THREE - missed JFK altogether and struck a section of concrete curb/pavement near the triple overpass causing a shrapnel of that pavement to strike a pedestrian (McTigue ?) on his cheek, causing it to bleed , who was observing the Presidential motorcade, Shot No. FOUR - missed JFK again and burrowed into the grass causing a shallow trench in the grass near the Presidential limousine (that bullet as later retrieved by an unidentified Dallas Police Dept. Detective and was never recorded as evidence), Shot No. FIVE - hit then Texas Governor John Connolly (the supposed "Magic Bullet" incorrectly identified by the Warren Commission as the "pristine bullet" ref: SHOT No, TWO above), Shots SIX and SEVEN - simultaneously strike JFK in the head from the right side and front killing him (large halo of blood, skull bone and brain matter ejected to the rear and left side of the Presidential limousine (Ms. Kennedy climbed on trunk of the Presidential limousine to retrieve a portion of JFK's skull fragments (S.S. Hill jumped onto rear of Presidential limousine to protect Ms. Kennedy and to cover the already dying JFK). So - when this occurred on 11/22/63 he does not inform any supervisor or ever write a report (police work is NOTHING BUT WRITING REPORTS incidentally) about finding this bullet, a critical piece of evidence in any homicide case but a Presidential Assassination? So, - if this guy has such a great memory at 88 years old now, THEN WHY DID HE KEEP THIS SECRET over 50 years? And just10 years ago he finally reads a book about the assassination? I came away wondering if Hill was in on the cover-up of the (CIA/Mafia) conspiracy. (I remember that day vividly, even though I was a 4th grader at the time.) Very interesting, to say the least, that LBJ immediately had the limo sent to Ford in Michigan, where they destroyed the windshield, refurbished the car, etc. It was a CRIME SCENE! Not to mention an historic artifact. It was kept in service well into the 1970s.

LBJ ordered the FBI to set up two patsy to be the shooters and not known to each other, one a policeman and the other a Russian sympathizer, the plan after the shooting was to end their lives after the shooting quickly and on the spot, one man the policeman was executed fifteen minutes away by an FBI operative the other made it out of the depository before FBI could get to him, so FBI came up with a plan B a man known to FBI broke and had cancer offered him a huge sum that would look after his family for the rest of their lives to take down the remaining man so he would not talk and the rest is history. The reason the FBI did not assassinate the President themselves is because of the backlash against LBJ and the Democrat party if they were caught.

It's also been reliably reported that JFK's widow, Jackie, traveled to both France and Russia, before her death from cancer in 1994, at age 64. She consulted with both of these countries' intelligence agencies, comparable to our own CIA, to answer her question of who was behind the murder of her husband in Dallas. She knew these agencies understand much more about our U.S. Government than the average U.S. citizen knows. It's because most of us have no security clearance or a need to know, so our knowledge of government matters is limited to what's in the media. The answer from both French and Russian intelligence agencies was the same: LBJ was behind it.

It's strikes me as a bit strange that LBJ lived only four more years, until January 1973, age 64, after departing the White House & presidency. It was reported that, upon his return home to Texas, he began smoking and drinking, his favorite being Cutty Sark scotch whisky. It was reported that he would drive alone, for his amusement, in his open convertible on the huge ranch property. The good people of Texas knew about LBJ over the years, and they put two and two together, in their own minds.

Those who cast doubt on Paul Landis (like Clint Hill, who shamelessly keeps propping up the Warren Report) can't refute the fact that Parkland hospital nurse Audrey Bell, in a 2013 video interview that is still on RU-vid, said SHE SAW A BULLET LAYING ON KENNEDY'S STRETCHER, between the earlobe and his shoulder. She commented at that time that she never saw or heard about that bullet again. That obviously was the bullet Landis put there. Furthermore, if you read the cross examination that Arlen Specter of the Warren Commission did of the maintenance man who found a bullet on a hospital stretcher, the man was NOT confused about where he found it. There were two stretchers bumped together and he found it on the bloodied one. But Specter and the W.C. CHOSE to believe it came from Connally's stretcher (even though there was zero proof of that), so they could claim it was the same bullet that struck both JFK and Connally. What Landis has now proved is that there was more than one shooter.

According to the Warren Commission Report Volume II, page 352, testimony given on 16 March 1964 the autopsy doctor noted that, "The diameter of the entrance wound [in President John F. Kennedy's skull] was [...] 6.0 mm." When a bullet hits, an entrance wound will expand slightly, so one of the fired bullets had to be less than 6.0 mm in diameter. Oswald’s bullets were 6.5 mm in diameter which would make the entrance wound greater than or equal to 6.5 mm. The trajectory from an exploding bullet that blew out the upper right portion of Kennedy's skull had to have come from behind at a much lower angle than that of the 6th floor book depository window of the sniper position of Oswald. Doctor Fisher claims that the entrance wound was higher than that of the autopsy's report, meaning that the trajectory had to have come from street level, and through the back right of the midline of Kennedy's skull to have the front exit wound above the right brow as seen in the Zapruder film. Back to the 6 mm entrance wound. Since Oswald's weapon couldn't make that shot from his angle, and his bullet was too large to make a 6 mm entrance wound...whose weapon could. Ten witnesses smelled gunpowder coming from the motorcade, at street level, including the witness Senator Ralf Yarborough, seated next to Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson, following directly behind the secret service follow-up car: he was 2 cars behind the Kennedys' car. You cannot smell gunpowder unless you are upwind of it. How could they smell Lee Harvey Oswald's gunpowder when he was 6 stories high and behind them? Witness Hugh Betzner's Volunteer Statement, Shefiff's Dept. Dallas, 22 Nov 1963 in the Warren Commission Reporr Vol XXIV, Exhibit 2003, pg. 200, claimed, "I also saw a man in the President's car, or the car behind his, pull out what looked like a rifle." Senator Yarborough said a similar thing...that he also saw a Secret Service Agent pull out an automatic weapon or a rifle, which came from the car in front of his. Even Secret Service Agent Winston X stated, Warren Commission Vol IV, pg. 353, 22 Apr 1964, "I saw an agent standing up with an automatic weapon in his hand, and the first thing that flashed in my mind was that he had fired because this was the only weapon I had seen up to that point." Agent Hickey was the man photographed and identified as the man with the AR-15 weapon in the follow-up car of the motorcade. Everybody knows that an AR-15 bullet is 5.7 mm in diameter, leaving an entrance wound of 5.7 mm to 6 mm in diameter: the diameter given as President Kennedy's fatal entrance wound.

The problem with the single bullet theory has always been the trajectory the bullet was supposed to have taken through the president's body. We know the bullet entered his upper back just to the right of the spinal column. Then it supposedly exited his throat just below the adams apple. This gives us a back to front UPWARD angle of approximately 11 degrees. During the president's autopsy at Bethesda Naval Hospital the wound in the president's back was probed several times, but the tract could never be established. This was because the pathologists assumed that the shot had come from above and behind at a DOWNWARD angle of approximately 35 degrees. Now, if this shot was fired from the grassy knoll and ENTERED the president's neck, and then exited his back, we now establish a trajectory matches up perfectly... a front to back trajectory with a DOWNWARD angle of approximately 11 degrees. The bullet, having struck no bone, is found in nearly pristine condition in exactly the location one would expect to find it. In any case, the "single bullet theory" is completely destroyed! Plain and simple.
@bshunter550
@bshunter550 6 месяцев назад
You forget that JFK was leaning slightly forward when the bullet hit him in the back and left his throat. That bullet's track was well established with four points described in the autopsy report, if you care to read it. You also forget that the bullet found by Nathan Pool on Connally's gurney was fired from Oswald's rifle, lands and grooves prove that. The single bullet fact still stands.
@cjcar63
@cjcar63 6 месяцев назад
No, I haven't forgotten anything. In FACT... JFK was NOT leaning forward when he was first struck. He was looking to his right and waving. The HSCA established this in the late 70's. And yes I did read the autopsy report, along with every single page of Warren Commission testimony ever given, (including that of Dr.s Humes and Boswell who performed the autopsy). You are mistaken my friend. The tract was never established, and this includes the attempts made by Dr. Pierre Finck. As far as balistics evidence is concerned, Warren Commission Exhibit 399 was matched only to a 6.5 X 39 mm M.C. rifle. While bullet casings can be matched directly to a specific, serialized firearm, projectiles cannot. @@bshunter550

🤔 People really are stupid. They still won`t admit that Oswald wasn`t the only shooter, if he even was one at all which i don`t believe he was. Anyone who has fired a gun and is familiar with Ballistics and how an object or a person reacts when a high velocity projectile ( Bullet ) hits it / them will instantly know from watching the Zapruder film that, the fatal head shot came from the FRONT of the President and NOT from behind him. One of the bullets, as shown in the Zapruder film hit Kennedy in the back, it pushes him forward, that`s either the bullet that goes through his neck or the one mentioned here that hit him in the shoulder, my monies on the former because as he`s pushed forward he grasps at his throat. The next bullet hits Governor Connelly`s wrist and ends up in his thigh, this would indicate a downwards trajectory, so possibly from the book depository but in the opposite corner to where Oswald was supposed to be, but my monies on 500 Elm which is the Dallas County Records Building, that was behind the presidents motorcade and gives a clear unbroken line of sight vantage point, unlike where Oswald was supposed to be that was partially blocked by a Tree, a Texas Live Oak, blocking the first two shots, Oswald couldn`t have fired those two first shots as he would have been shooting through a tree. The final bullet hits Kennedy in the right front temple just above his right eyebrow, the force of the impact pushes him BACKWARDS and to his LEFT which is consistent with a bullet travelling towards him originating from his right. Brain matter and skull fragments were ejected out from the back of his head and were mostly found on the back left quarter of the boot lid / trunk for you Americans. I`m in the UK and i`ve paid more attention to the Kennedy Assassination than most Americans have and i`m 101% convinced, based on the facts and the evidence that your President, John F Kennedy was assassinated in a conspiracy that included at least three possibly four military highly trained marksmen, of which Oswald wasn`t, he wasn`t even a mediocre shot at best, he`d got Maggie`s Drawers` meaning he was a poor shooter. I heard Landis on radio years ago for just a few minutes. He told the same story, but he said he put the bullet on the stretcher in the hallway, although I may remember it incorrectly. You can see the shallow back wound in photos of JFK autopsy. You can read how doctors could not find the bullet pathway . I also heard that carcanos often didn't shoot properly the bullets could lose velocity. I believe this is the accurate story. It means there were four or even five shots. It makes much more common sense. While most witnesses heard only three shots, others heard two reports coming almost simultaniously, there was a head shot, a missed shot, a throat shot, a back shot and Connolly's shot. Even if it did go through Kennedy and Connally, it is not the pristine bullet. That bullet was fragmented everywhere, under the front seat, under the jump seat and some of it remained in Connally. I believe there were four shots. Likely Oswalds shot missed, and one made a shallow wound.

Anyone who thunk there was only one bullet after many came forward witnessing that four shots were fired have a disjunct with reality.

Would someone please explain to me, how a bullet travels through a barrel without any riffling marks? And why was the limo totally restored within days? And what happened to Dr. Mary Shsrman? I CALL BS!!!

It had rifle marks that's where the picture came from shows the bullet. This guy never told anyone what he did which seems odd they just assumed this was the magic bullet.

@blastman8888 I met Arlen Speter once. I was always told that the bullet had no markings. Anyway, how can a bullet have the velocity to travel that far, with enough energy to accurately hit the target, and yet not have the energy to Pentrate the target? I think the whole story is BS, start to finish!

@@googleboy7 Where did the bullet come from in the picture they took. The picture shows rifling marks. I'm not sure I buy his story that he just left it there didn't say a word to anyone. I suppose it's true that he felt so upset about it then figured didn't matter anyway since the President was dead didn't matter anymore. I also wonder if he just trying to cash in on a story for his family before he dies.

Exactly , the limo shouldn’t have been touched until thoroughly investigated. It’s considered a crime scene ! Just another red flag 🚩 SMH 🤦🏻

😊All of us knew that something far more horrible than a murder had occurred. The far right had him in the crosshairs for years. They wanted war, war, war to play with their nuclear toys and keep the country in constant internal and external conflagration. Kenney had a vision of something better, for which his own countrymen killed him. All hope went out of us that day.

Back in that day we didn't 't have the concept of left and right when it came to our country. Eisenhower warned us of the Military Industrial Complex, but we citizens didn't understand how deep it really was. I was 20 when JFK was murdered by them.

The ex-CIA chief Allen Dulles practically lead the Warren commission. He was fired by Kennedy just a little before. And he hated Kennedy. So there you have it.

A fired bullet does not look that pristine unless it's fired into water. This is still too shady.

I also remember that a bullet was found in the limo that had no rifling makes on it?? That means it was not fired from a rifle or it was placed there!

I have always know that this was a CIA , I was with my grandmother when this came over the air. I was young, I looked at my Grandma told her Oswald wasn't their man. Someone else shot at JFK. But, I have done my research since this day, the Government in how we knew it is corrupt to the core. Growing up in the Corrupt world, I couldn't find a church to go to, I tried going to College and take Paralegal , well the professor want me to write a paper, as he wanted me too. So, I quit. I have never fitted into this Corrupt World, I have no Family. My Dad knew that we didn't have to pay income tax, because he didn't. So, I also know that JFK lived to be 100. and JFK, Jr and a lot of the others are still with us. Wake Up America. And President Trump is our President or Commander in Chief Military code 11.3 . President Trump has been primed for this. Wake up America This is my opinion.'

Whilst it's clear that the JFKA was a cover up it seems strange that Landis decides to come forward with some extra info just as his book is released.

What? You don't think because you are a JFK assassination witness you don't need extra money or want your creative efforts to be successful? You never went to a boss and asked for a raise based on your good work? JFK Assassination witness are dishonest because they are human and not immune to the need for money???? Oh, just trust the government. Sure. Buy another copy of the Warren Commission Report ,all 27 Volumes. Sure

Didn't Lee bowers state the last two shots he heard were right on top of one another, LHO couldn't have loaded his bolt action rifle that quickly. Had to be a independent shooter. Even a hollow point bullet that delivered the fatal headshot.
