I've had the pleasure of watching Jharis Yokley perform in person. I've been playing drums for 40 years. He is flat-out one of the best drummers I've ever seen.

I get what everybody is saying about the octopad and I agree it takes away from creativity, but you also gotta admit it takes mad skills to do what some of these guys are doing with the octopad.

Jesus christ, he got robbed. Got a little sloppy here and there but it was better than 5 minutes of funk and gospel grooves on the octapad. The gravity blast part was insane.

I disagree. I definitely think he was a bit more creative. but I don't think it was well executed. and overall pretty boring. This is the first non-winner I've heard. I would still say the winner deserved it.

Randall Flores This competition is judged on multiple things. The Winner was good. Smooth, and had nice grooves. However, it was all octopad, and remind you, this is a DRUM competition, he didnt bring anything WOW. just clean. From what im seeing, all around this guy should have gotten 1st over the actual winner.
@RandallFlores86
@RandallFlores86 9 лет назад
ShaneAndFriends26 Again. I disagree. The octopre argument everyone has is null and only demonstrates individuals lack of experience with 1) the octopad, 2) writing a solo, and 3) writing a solo and incorporating both

If he had perfectly executed all the crossovers and everything, he would've blown the winner away.... Awesome performance!

This is subjective. But I still like his solo better than the winner. No dis but this guy tells a better story, in my opinion.

I remember him he won the Quarterfinals in IL. He did a great job. All of the drummers were great. Everybody could of won. It was very good to see some of the drummer's use less of the octapad. Shariq used it the most like most of you'll said but he still deserved to win.

I'm beginning to think that the drum off turned into an advertisement for the octapad .. as far as I can tell there hasn't been a finalist or winner that didn't use it since they started having it as an "optional" accessory .. this dude does rip though .. but I can def do without that octapad ...

Those judges are messed up man this was way more entertaining and more technical than Shariq's solo
@ccdiddle
@ccdiddle 9 лет назад
Wow i guess the Judges were looking for more octopad. Because I like this guy alot better than the winner. But The winner was good to. They are all better than me haha
@MrBrown585to302
@MrBrown585to302 9 лет назад
He had a great set but I see why he didn't win he had a few slip ups here and there so it cost him. To say he should've won when clearly Shariq had a basically mistake free performance and he killed it as well is crazy.

The electric pad gives them the option to focus less on the drums and more on creating a song. That option has to go. There's no originality to these GC solos anymore. Jerome Flood and Ramon Sampson were the last of the great GC solos, simply because they didn't have pads to relieve them of creativity and musicality on the drums. Juan Carlos Mendoza is the exception, because he could've won it even without the pad, and, from what I heard, none of the others could. Please, GC, for the sake of originality and the DRUMS, remove the pad from these solos.

Joe Lackey J.C. Mendoza is really good - kind of slick, great technique, good chops, but I definitely don't think he had anything on Aric Improta. Not overall. Not in terms of a plain 'ol, flat-out butt-kicking drum solo. Improta's theatrics aside, he's pretty damn good.
@carsondrum

+Rev Yu WHAT?? That metal spaz shouldnt have made it past the store finals, he was nothing but flashy... Shows how bias the judges are, we will never know who maybe should've been in these finals but the judges made a poor call.

Really dope concepts and winner quality ideas but i feel like he played with a lack of confidence. Maybe he was nervous which would make sense but his performance lacked that energy & enthusiasm.
