and the angry charlie is a blatant outright rip off clone of the MI Audio Crunch Box. JHS has no morals when it comes to stealing other people's designs and claiming them as original designs.

MI Crunch Box is a rip off of the first version of Guv'nor. Most pedals are based, modified or clone of others.

true, but i don't think that MI Audio ever claimed that the crunch box was an original design. even the charlie brown pedal is a blatant rip off of the general guitar gadgets Brown Sound In A Box v2 pedal, yet it's an "original design"

I have a Crunch Box. It doesnt sound like the AT at all. The CCT is similar but has changes. I would have to pull an Angry Charlie apart to compare it to my Crunch Box to know if it is a blatant rip off but, as mentioned before, the MI is said to be a Guvnor Clone so it is all out in the wash

For me, it's largely a matter of feel. In the past, I've used the Boss DS-1 for a long time and also the Boss Heavy Metal (HM-2) for a while after that, then the Rockman Sustainor for a long time (late 80s early 90's) which is not a floor pedal but was my primary non-amp distortion tone for years. But none of them feel as good to play as the JHS AT for me. The AT is chunky, chewy and reacts like an amp. On the 50 watts and 25 watts mode, it has tons of sustain (the Angry Charlie here would be most akin to the AT's 50 watts mode. The 100 watts mode has less gain and more headroom. The 25 watts mode has even more gain than the AC and more compression/sustain. As for the sound itself, it's really hard to describe. I always loved the Marshall distortion tone and the JHS AT as well as the Angry Charlie are in that territory. It's smooth "creamy" distortion. It has a specific sonic "texture" that is pleasing to me.

ITS SOMETHING IN OUR BRAINS THAT MAKES US LIKE IT, WATCH THE FIRST EPISODE OF THE SERIES "METAL EVOLUTION" WHERE THEY HAVE A NEUROLOGIST EXAMINE WHY WE LIKE TO LISTEN TO HEAVY MUSIC, ITS PRETTY COOL AND YOU ONLY HAVE TO WATCH THE FIRST 10 OR 15 MINUTES TO GET TO THAT PART, THE WHOLE SERIES IS GREAT IF YOU LIKE METAL, IT SHOWS WHERE METALS ROOTS WERE PLANTED AND HOW ITS GROWN INTO WHAT IT IS TODAY AND ITS VERY DETAILED AND EXPLAINS ALOT , I RECOMMEND ANY METAL HEAD WATCH IT

Cool! Must have missed it. I have the AT and seen both compared in other demos. THe AT is more versatile with it's "wattage/headroom" switch. Both are some of the best overdrives/distortions around for sure!

shame they are clones of other builders designs...

LOL (what ain´t clones of other builders stuff? All my gear are clones or inspired by other builders designs.. my Ibbyz, my Grecos, ESPs, most of my pedals, my amps.. and all of it is arguably better than the original)
