Definitely an Album of the Year Contender for any hip-hop fans like me who appreciate both great production and subject matter. I've been refreshing my RU-vid and waiting for this video too. I think, with this album , he solidifies himself as one of the best MCs in the game rn.
The subject matter is pretty lacking on this album, JID has all the attribute of a good MC but lets not mistake him for what he isn't, rappers like Billy Woods on Aethiopes are way more boundary pushing with their lyrics, I don't think there is much of anything JID said that had me mindblown or had me think a lot Good album, very enjoyable but it's a disservice to categorize it as a "subject matter based" type of project, because plenty rappers do it better
@@Thee0therkingjames was blown away on how good that album is! If you like raw real hip hop then it’s gotta be top 2 albums of the year it is crazy how good the production is!
@@dadorage1695 what.... what does that even mean. Bc if we are talking about CONTENT he is saying ALOT a vast majority of the album is storytelling from a purist standpoint.
Em has him beat sorry he hood really skilled elite rapper gave jid that but Eminem is on a league of his own don’t believe me listen to Eminem dj khaled use this gospel remix with ye on it em flow guy does 5 syllable flow whole verse well keeping subject matter and speeds flow up at end well making words rhyme that shouldn’t rhyme plus doubles in there. Sorry he ain’t no Eminem 😂💯
Eminem just forces a bunch of wordplay & syllables so theres HELLA filler in his recent verses. Nobody said jid a better lyricist than eminem but his flow is 100% better 🤣 fucking stan.
@@distortedrecordz7069 nahhh disagree personally. Kendricks wasn't as enjoyable overall as I expected it to be. Denzels was awesome, still enjoying that one. Loved this first few times through so just have to see how enjoyable it is after a couple months to know which I prefer between this and denzels
I said he was the most talented rapper to come out of the last 5 years and dreamville Haters got so mad i said that. Its like the cole stigma is gonna follow him, his skill is undeniable. From the singing to the wordplay to effortless flows & wide range of production he has floated over. He also can be accessible to lyrical hip hop purists as well as the young trap fanbase. He has the full package that is incredibly rare
@@chrismalinowski654 been following him intently since I can't remember, at least 4 years now... Very few people have that interchangeability, not as convincingly as him. King fu Kenny one of them, Denzel another, Cole another, Wayne too
I ended yesterday on my third listen and I heavily preferred the first half of the album but today I'm vibing extra hard on the second half. I have no idea what my favourite songs are yet.
1st playthrough-crack sandwich 2nd-money 3rd-kody blu 31 4th-sistanem 5th-can’t punk me 6th-better days/stars I can’t fucking decide this album is beautiful
The production and and his flow on Lauder too is some of the most next level shit I’ve ever heard. And the way that bassline hits so rapidly while dancing up and down the scale is sick
You know, I knew JID could sing well, Sandstorm being one example of him displaying his insane talent, but man when I heard Kody Blu 31 I got chills all over. This guy can't miss, it's just impossible I'm convinced.
I'm down here in Brazil and the first thing I did today after waking up was listening to this whole album while having my morning coffee. JID didn't disappoint.
JID can peform at an elite level with conscious raps , storytelling tracks, double entendres/wordplay, can sing at a high level, while having a great balance of mainstream trap-like music as well as lyrical hip hop. Nobody else in recent years can do all these things. He has all the tools
Definitely AOTY contender. Ofc it’s early but I’d say it’s my favorite rap album this year over Denzel, kendrick, pusha. Great balance of soulful vibes and spitting on hard beats, JID really find pockets that seemingly nobody else can.
Melt My Eyez and Gothic Luxury we’re definitely more enjoyable to listen to for me! Too each is own but this definitely isn’t JIDs best project. Definitely lacked creativity.. some of his best songs are still unreleased.
@@dadorage1695 When did I say anything about music that’s not mainstream? I said it’s better than Denzel, kendrick, and pusha because they are rappers that mostly likely will get Grammy nominations for rap AOTY. I’d suggest actually reading what I said lol
This is jids best work compiled. Everything he has done before has been bested in some way on this album. Absolutely love this, can't wait to see him live again
"Artist - Artest with a gun - i could give my world peace" Man hit em with the Meta World Peace punch line. lol i love the throwbacks. You can tell dude has an old soul and is making timeless music.
Album of the year? Best fuckin album ever. Production perfect, rapping perfect, instrumentation perfect, backup vocals???? FUCKING PERFECT, songwriting has so much movement. haven't felt anything like this in hiphop since tpab. Though I admit, I have a weakness for jazz... and this shit is honestly a beautiful jazz album in my ears
12:27 I just realized JID's extension of singing "through" is the same melody as the chorus of All Bad from The Never Story: "And if i'm tryna tell the truth it's all bad"
@@dadorage1695 right now: the forever story tana talk 4/aethiopes and melt my eyez in no particular order. god dont make mistakes, 2000, few good things, sick!, mr morale and learn 2 swim all honourable mentions and could easily be up there too imo
@@jimothyjimothy1 few good things is definitely up there. i could see melt my eyez and few good things being interchangeable saba did his thing but I find myself personally returning to melt my eyez more. 100% need to give few good things another full listen
Damn I didn't recognize it from there but he performed a rough version during a show during the pandemic so I was so hype to hear it again and it featuring Wayne🔥🔥🔥
Your subtle edits I feel often go unrecognized/unappreciated. Your slow pan in during certain moments really add to the edit and feeling of the moment. Keep killing it. And amazing album.
He's absolutely not underrated, he's on a major label. Why do everytime people like a rapper they have to pretend like he is underrated. He is completely rated.
@@dadorage1695 a record deal doesn’t make someone fairly rated. JID has a lot of skill and doesn’t get talked about as much as he should for a majority of hip hop fans
Incredible. JID's on another level. Between The Never Story, DiCaprio 2 and now The Forever Story, I can't even say what is his best project. But I do think this new one is special. Fave tracks: Raydar, Crack Sandwich, Surround Sound, Kody Blu 31, Money
This album reminded me of good kid mad city from a Atlanta jid perspective, and what’s crazy is that jid mention how he used to really bump section 80 all the time when it came out. So I wouldn’t say it’s far off to say jid got some type of inspiration from Kendrick’s section 80 album and good kid mad city.
JID's was supposed to have 16 songs - 8 x 8 (forever/never story).... 2007 a song he couldn't get clearance for (was supposed to be the last song). I wish he was able to get that on the album, but it's arguably one of the best songs.
@@teddyhart2913 so true and when I heard the track with lil Wayne. Jid was literally rapping just like him on both his verses and then even the song right after that you can hear Wayne’s flow that jid uses again, so dope.
@@samrichardson9621 I feel you, it just gives that raw feeling of someone’s life being told from their perspective and really letting you in to how they think and feel, that’s why section 80 was so profound.
god the only thing I want now is Kendrick and JID on a track together jumping through the beat.. esp since we’ve got Kendrick in his era rn with his most unconventional flows yet
First album in some time that I've immediately repeated on first listen. Super well crafted piece. A number of standouts for me, Sistadem prob my early fave
@@ace2311 I agree but also it’s not too early to say that. It’s just plain wrong… Joey Badass and Denzel’s albums both wash this album completely… this is a solid album 7/10 and I’m being generous. I’d say Kendrick’s album is a solid 5, and both Joey and Denzel’s albums are an 8 and a 9 respectively. This is not to say I disliked JID’s album, I thought it was solid, and the tracks Money, Crack Sandwich, and Stars are basically perfect tracks… but as a whole album one cannot say that it was “great”… good, yes, great? hardly
@@pranit8437 I think it really captivated his own perspective. He didn’t melt into the track he just lit it on fire in a different way. Didn’t hold back with the emotion in his voice and just being himself unapologetically
aoty without any kind of doubt. awesome storytelling, chosen beats, writing, flows; everything. awesome reaction (i'm half way hahaha) as always, greetings from argentina jon, love ur content!
This is a Hip-Pop Album of the Year contender. Danger Mouse and Black Thought dropped the Rap album of the year for me. Rap and Hip-Pop ain't day, we just gotta look in the right places.
You mean Hip Hop? And ya I agree they ain’t the same at all these days, to me I’d still say Kendrick for AOTY but I gotta give this one a second listen, JID is just too talented.
your reaction to that "saltine cracker/sardine" bar summarizes this whole album...its too much, JID came into his own on this one. Thank you Jon, keep it up
Conway's song "Scatterbrained" put me on to JID and I been a fan ever since. I shoulda known he was sumn special if Conway wanted him on one of his tracks, u know he consider alot of the young dudes garbage lol which they are. JID is a alien tho seriously. 🔥
The thing i agree with you the most on this one when you were talking about Raydar song review and you said that this song alone has more material than other rappers put on thier whole album... thats what i agree too rappers out there making 4 songs with the lyrical content Jid puts in one song but still people listen to it because of the promos and hype... I wish JiD stays underrated dont wanna attract the hypetrain listeners who later turn to critics
I absolutely adore “Money” it’s instrumental is almost creepy and just bangs away while JID cuts through it with some his most nuanced bars, it’s a banger. Superb album!
Cant make you change might just be song of the year. Amazing album, not one song did JID give a performance less than amazing. Snapped on every track. AOTY contender, imo 2nd to Kendrick but could become AOTY with time
13:40 you got a good point, when i listened to this album i realized how much i actually relate to jid which i never got such a strong sense of in his earlier work
Some still will talk shit just cause he’s a cole artist. That cole hate will rub off on him for no reason. Ive already seen people knock him just cause his songwriting isnt on the level of some of the best of this generation, even tho its improving at a rapid pace. People will cherry pick anything.
It is so hard to choose a definite rap album of the year with the albums we've gotten this year, 2022 has been a great year for music ! Amazing album by JID, one of the best in the game right now 🔥
JID dropped an album that can really cement himself in hip hop, time will tell if it is his FHD, GKMC or Take Care in terms of impact but it’s an album that will be the go to when mentioning JID
JID just filled out my top 5 from this year. Now its Him, Beyonce,Pusha, Denzel & Abel with Logic as a Honorable Mention as my top 6 from this year (In no particular order)
@@dadorage1695 nah lmao……but now that you mentioned it. I did forget to add Tana Talk 4 & God Don’t Make Mistakes to my Honorable Mentions. But I’m curious to know your top 5
The way you were captivated by the storytelling in Crack Sandwich says it all. JID has lyricism, flow, vocals but this album really elevated his storytelling!
After 3 or so listens gotta say this my AOTY jid straight killed it. Favorites so far Kody Blu 31, Sistanem, Bruddanem, and Crack Sandwich too many 10s
great album I recommend listening to the durk feature more i think he fit quite well, the verse and the flow actually works imo. Overall such a level up for jid aoty for me rn
I find with JID you get so caught up in the flow and the way he rhymes words that a lot of the lyrics go over your head (at least for me personally). This one will definitely need multiple listens, amazing record on first listen though.
I totally get what you mean. You can hear Wayne, Andre 3k, and some Kendrick inspirations in his artistry, plus he has his own unique style within that too
he couldn’t get clearance for the sample. that means that if he makes money off it, he could (and probably would) get sued for all the money he made off it. hopefully he gets it cleared eventually.
I listened to it last night and ngl, I liked it but I was pretty tired so I was unable to fully take it in. Relistened to the entire thing this morning and man… I been spinning it ever since. Currently JID is my favorite rapper and I’m so glad he’s finally starting to get the recognition he deserves. He’s ELITE and no one is doing it like him rn. Album of the year
