defenetly , also a electronic design for faders and knob to not carry sound but control a CV circuit , that way we avoid cracks even when faders are a bit tired ( learnt that thing in a DBX manual about a comp explaining Sound voltage not going thru the control knobs . For the momment , the shortest way is to relay on midi controls , analog console if use heavily stop to conduct current ( talking about consoles under 1500 bucks) ... with the futur already here , I think a "analog console " layout with aux , group etc ... but as a midi controller ... this will be the best option , MIDI is getting on a new level MIDI is just born ) ... As you say , on a Biig surface with space and big controls ... FaderFox did some great stuff but for 2k buck total to have decently enougth control is a bit too much considering also the compact size of their controller ...after that we have the Handmade midi control , but not reliable for intensif pro work ... I dont know why brand as Mackie dont make things like that ( too few clients for that perhaps ) ... after that we enter in ICONS and above controller , but they keep limiting the number of controls ... ... the novation ctrl xl , is the best compromosie price/size/ life lengh ...to conclude , defo I keep some anolog summing and effects aux path for the dubmix possibilities , and I keep also the midi control for volume and aux sends and a few controls , that way it emulate that Pro spec aka audio wave form not going thru the fader or switch , less click pops and more spontanéous control
