We were amused and a little embarrassed by her insistence to have everyone address her with the title. I explained to her that in the U.S. the academic setting was the appropriate setting for use of the credential, not in public. I have a PhD but I am addressed "Doctor " only in a university setting or an academic conference, and once in court. Only a few of my fishing buddies refer to me as "Doc" or "Professor." My academic colleagues are not offended when they are addressed as Mr., Mrs or Ms in public.

I do believe racial bias is real, but I also believe the victimhood is real and the boy who cried wolf syndrome is real. If a white person rear ends a black person, is that now about race to? Is that where we’re headed? I literally watch the body camera video where they have a blackwoman on camera running a stop sign and getting T-bones by a white lady. When the cop went to give her a ticket she starts going off about how it’s because she’s black. And that she stopped at the stop sign and blah blah blah. I’m just sick and tired of it. And I’ve never been accused of being racist, so this is not some personal grievance that has me upset. This is just me being sick of people lying to themselves and others.e
