I started CrossFit 2 years ago, at age 60. I am so proud of my progress and fitness level that i really have no words to adequately describe what CrossFit and my box community mean to me.
David. I'm 48 with a few bumps on me. Always intimidated by CrossFit. Started in July when they were outside in parking lot, all other gyms still closed, and I'd been sitting on the couch for 4 months and needed to move. I fell in love. Still can't do a DU or rope climb or even toes to bar. But....I can now do knees to chest. The CrossFit gym environment is so amazing I can't describe it. Every single person is supportive and coaches are true pros who both correct and praise. Ask Jillian what other type of gym gives you that service and expertise baked in? I will never belong to any other gym. Thanks CF
You know Jillian is spitting nonsense, when normally calm and collected Jass gets trickered. "HOW DO YOU MESS UP A BURPEE, YOU LAY DOWN ON THE FLOOR AND YOU GET BACK UP AGAIN!?" - Jass
@@Reglage Only if she does it in the same extreme manner. Personally i stubbed my toe climbing into bed the other night and in the morning I felt sore and wrecked. I'm going to keep away from my bed for at least 4 days to try and recover, before attempting something like that again.
In honour of her ignorance I did a WOD today called “The Jillian” 10-9-8-....1 box jumps - 1-2-3 burpees. Surprisingly my shoulders didn’t hurt. Oh well .....
It’s not about being “fit” for her though, she’s selling skinny, not fit. All of her marketing and exercise/dieting revolve around having the “dream” body. She regularly encourages her followers to reduce their calorie intake and offers tips for reducing fat. It’s not about getting stronger or developing technique.
The "heart attack" was her old co host off "biggest loser" Bob harper, who just so happened to have this heart attack at his crossfit box.. he had an undiagnosed hereditary heart condition which she also failed to mention....
"In fact, he was at high risk for both heart attack and stroke, thanks to an inherited cholesterol abnormality - high lipoprotein(a), a particle in the blood that carries cholesterol, fat and proteins. What’s more, his mother had a heart attack and died at age 70, as did her father."
If you're gonna have a heart attack, a CrossFit gym is not a bad place to be. Pretty much every class I'm in (Grapevine CrossFit) has at least one cop / firefighter / nurse / EMT / etc working out. All the coaches are CPR current and there's an AED on the wall.
So true, after the last season of biggest loser with Steve Cook, Bob Harper explained why he had a heart attack and the healthy eating habits and things he has done to fix that, and he still does crossfit a few days a week.
She keeps saying her form fell apart. That her own damn fault lmao. If her form has fallen apart from 55 burpees and 55 box jumps, she should seriously be reconsidering her career choice
If you're a fitness instructor and aren't fit enough to do 55 burpees and 55 box jumps without getting injured, maybe the 'modality' isn't the issue here.
Her most used phrase, "I don't understand". This is not a shock but why make a video about something you don't understand by your own admission. It'd be like Craig doing an expert DIY video 😂
Why? Because look at all of the attention her post has now got with videos like this reacting to it. I'm not a 100% sure how are CrossFit is, but I'm also not 100% sure how safe driving a car is so it's a pointless video all round
I totally agree. Complaining about crossfit is pretty much the only thing that gets her attention any more. Its the responding that gives her power. The problem is that while Julian's video wont talk crossfitters form continuing on, it will likely keep a lot of people from even trying it, which I think is unfortunate.
When you remember that this is a woman who forged a career around physically and emotionally bullying overweight people in the name of entertainment, I tend to ignore literally everything she says.
@@benallthetime I work as a nutritionist, I can not physically imagine bullying my clients into weight loss. There’s a reason all the biggest loser clients gained their weight back- so unsustainable
How is she hurting herself with that easy of a workout and she’s like a master trainer hearing this would make me cancel what ever membership she gives.
Julie Foucher just posted a podcast on Pursuing Health about the stigma around injury/dangerous in CrossFit. This woman is wildly uneducated about CrossFit.
Ugh, don't do that.... She's annoying and doesn't really know what she's talking about, but there's no need for starting to criticize her looks.... DO BETTER!!
Functional fitness doesn’t exist. Anything you train to do is your function. If you train to bench 500 pounds, bench press is very functional. If you’re training for a marathon, a treadmill or a track is functional.
Two things : 1. All little league, tee ball, middle, and high school coaches should be fired because they are not the best of the best in their respective sport. If you’re not in the Hall of Fame, forget trying to coach your 5 year olds soccer team 2. I just made you my friend Craig, you’re welcome.
17:09 "For CrossFit, your coach should have a degree" Then 17:52 "Jillian Michaels' education Background "I don't have a degree" lmao, this was pure gold. You don't need a degree to be smart or an expert in your field. It is ONE way of developing knowledge and showing your dedication to an idea or concept within a chose field of study, but make no mistake. It is not the END ALL BE ALL to prove you're an expert or a requirement to be well experienced/educated. Example given: I'd take weight lifting advice and sessions from Mat Fraser every day of the week and his degree his in Mechanical Engineering. But he clearly understands weight training and conditioning with proper load cycling(and a 100+ other variables)
Guess it would blow her mind to know very few elite gymnastics coaches (the ones that coach Olympians) have a degree in exercise science or related. They're certified through their governing bodies, but don't necessarily hold any degree.
Did anyone else just think that the box jump and burpee workout sounded awesome, will be trying that this weekend! Thanks Jillian, great programming! 😀
Why do "celebrity" trainers try so hard to passive aggressively dictate what we should and shouldn't do with our own bodies, during our own free time, on God's Green Earth.
Drinking game: Take a shot every time she says modality, that way by the time you are halfway through the video you can tolerate the rest of it. My god that was raw.
Had to stop the vid and back it up to make sure my eyes didn't deceive me when I saw her doing a dumbbell snatch while balancing on a foam roller 😂 dafuq? Bahahaha
The last clip of her exercise is a OLY move!!!! She is doing a clean * ON A ROLLER* - I can't believe my eyes. No wonder she wants her coach to have a degree. My ears are bleeding and I am feeling very rilled. I am going to go hit some heavy lifts with my awesome coaches, smash that like button and forget about this confused lady
I totally agree with Jas, I go to the gym just to move my body and have fun, and shake my brain out after a hard day. It doesn’t have to be about progression.
With Jillian's burpee example and as a trainer -- you mean to tell me -- Jillian couldn't have scaled the movement to something like a jumping jack or a get-up? That's pretty incompetent.
That speech was so wooly she could make jumpers for the whole of Iceland. Good to see there’s still money in muck spreading who said agriculture industry was struggling. 🎺🎺🎺
I can’t take any “fitness” expert seriously who appears to have plastic surgery (such as Botox). That to me defeats the purpose of what message you’re attempting to promote.
Oh Jillian 🙈 I will say this years ago as a young mom with 3 kids under 4 years doing at home programs was my only option. I did her Body Revolution program multiple times to help me loose the baby weight and gain confidence. It definitely gave me foundation. I’ve been doing CrossFit (with my husband) for 3 years now and I love it. It’s disappointing so see someone who really did help me speak out about things she herself says “I don’t understand”. Much love to the CrossFit coaches and the wonderful community
"Oh, you could get hurt doing it". 1: You can get hurt doing almost any phisical activity. But you don't see haters going like "football is for loosers, 'cause you can get hurt". 2: Yeah, those are technical and complex moves. That's why you need a good coach. True to...basically everything. 3: I spent 6 years trying different gyms before I ran into a crossfit box. Every gym was the same deal: I got in, introduced myself to the coaches, they showed me around, three days (one week tops) later they'd have this little piece of paper with different moves on different machines that I should do on each one, and then they VANISHED. The first thing I noticed when I got into my crossfit box is that the coach was ALWAYS by my side, trying to make me move better, letting me keep in mind that form came before weights. There was no fucking little piece of paper. I felt a lot safer in my crossfit box than I ever did at the gym. In my regular gyms the coaches couldn't care less if I was lifting properly, if I should reduce weight to be more efficient, they were just walking around chating, almost always with the hot girls. After five years of crossfit my coaches still stick with me through my technique training and still put in effort every day to make me move better. So yeah...I'm calling bullshit on that one.
Speaking from the exercise science degree aspect: the 2000 dollars that I have spent for the L1 and L2 in crossfit have been far more beneficial than my 4 year degree that cost an estimated 160k
She’s got a couple things right: 1) you should incorporate rest days 2) if you are training as an elite athlete you should use periodization and pay attention to muscle group recovery 3) if you are an elite athlete you should seek out the most well educated/trained/experienced coaches in each modality (gymnastics, weightlifting, power lifting, rowing, running, swimming, etc) 4) if you’re not an elite athlete you should be extremely wary of doing Olympic lifts in net cons where your form is likely to degrade and injury likelihood will drastically increase, likewise with high level gymnastics movements. ... but... if you take a few precautions, and emphasize excellent movement standards like most good boxes and good coaches do... every average person can make incredible fitness and health gains by consistently training in CrossFit. AND... training CrossFit will make it much more likely that you will consistently train because of the atmosphere and camaraderie created by the group training environment especially where it is highly encouraged to cheer on your fellow cross fitters and usually very socially engaging.
I think we can simplify this. Jillian “I can’t make money off Crossift, hence it’s bad”. This is from a lady who “coached” on a show that did some horrible things for ratings.
Let’s all remember all the shit in The Biggest Loser, now disregard everything Jillian Michaels has ever said. If you watch that show you know she is the last person you should ask about fitness lol.
"Jillian" 5 rounds for time; 100 meter bear crawl tread mill, 15 Bang head to bar, 15 hand stand drop to burpee toe stubs, 15 shouts "I don't understand"
Just because someone can’t have access to the most professional coaching doesn’t mean the opportunity should be taken away. Jas is right, just because someone isn’t a pro doesn’t mean they can’t teach. People are careful, and the injuries really aren’t that high. Pretty much the same as other sports or less.
When Jillian Michaels ruined the metabolism of thousands (possibly millions) of people through pushing extreme calorie restriction combined with insane amounts of cardio she lost any and all credibility she will ever have. And serious question...why are so many lesbians absolutely miserable?
“What’s the point of getting on a treadmill for half an hour everyday” Actually many bodybuilders do this. The point is it’s a simple way to burn calories.
I really don’t Mattis. I’ve done too many sports/training methodologies to count, I’m a fan of most training methodologies. I was merely making an example.
@@TeamRICHEY an example of what? not trying to start beef or anything and i love your videos, i'm just pointing out that simple boring cardio everyday is actually a great way for most people to boost cardiovascular health and burn calories. Is it the best way? probably not but it gets the job done regardless.
Craig actually didn’t say “everyday”. I thought the context of his comment was in terms of building strength/endurance which you can’t really build from doing anything once. This was in response to her shoulders (and toes?) being sore from doing burpees in 1 workout. Similar to going on the treadmill once. Won’t do much (in terms of building strength/endurance). Of course it will still burn calories and of course it’s better than doing nothing but again, I don’t think that the the point.
what's wrong with going on a treadmill for half an hour everyday? :( it does wonders for my astma and I lost 5 kg and some fat because of it in combination with biking
I’m 300+ lbs. I have had no injuries and I’ve done CrossFit for 2 yrs. I suffered multiple injuries when I was just going to the gym to work out by myself or with a personal trainer. I was also training with personal trainers who were specialized with weight lifting. She is annoying and not worth anyone’s time.
I want to entertain the idea of the process of becoming a CrossFit coach. From what I have experienced it seems like it goes like this: you get your L1, then you shadow for a couple weeks, and then you are a certified coach at a Box. However, this doesn't seem sufficient, I think there should be a shadowing process for a duration of time somewhere between 6-12 months (those are just arbitrary numbers but the point is for a long period of time). This way they can learn under an L3, L2, or L1 (who has gone through the extensive shadowing program). Because it just doesn't sit right with me that someone over a weekend can become your coach within a few weeks and be teaching the technical aspects of CrossFit: gymnastics, Olympic weightlifting, etc. Just some food for thought curious to hear other opinions and if others agree or disagree.
After 2 years in CF I smashed my arms and now already 3 years trying to recover, due to some of the points mentioned by Jillian, I still love CF but I will never go back
She has a point. It is nonsense. Utter craziness doing reps on power activities. But, it is just an activity, a sport made for athletes who are good at training. Why not? The nonsense is when CrossFit claims their athletes are fittest in the world. No such thing. But they are beasts! Wonderful shape.
I was waiting for this 😂😂😂😂😂 awesome video! I know we don’t want to continue to give her light, but also I think it’s super important we call people like her out!
She looks like she's about to audition for flashdance after dropping her (un-educated) opinion. P.s I'm crying at Jas saying that's what she said in the background 😂
Long story short: 1 - Thinks she is "Fitness" 2 - Done crossfit once without scaling or knowing movements expecting to excell 3 - Got her ass kicked and realized she sucked at it 4 - Started talking BS about the Sport/Training to get attention/relevance These people deserve 0 relevance IMO, if they were completely disregarded, that would be the best "counter". That's all from me, keep lifting or doing whatever you like to stay fit
I actually agree with her from a local box standpoint. Elite crossfit, her logic doesn't apply. She's absolutely right that people are trying to perform high kernel moves with ZERO qualified coaches.
Essentially, I think that Jillian is trying to position her business as the only solution for achieving "fitness" by discrediting the entire Crossfit community.
Dammit Craig!! A video of yours I can't watch!! I couldn't put myself through more than 5 minutes of it. How can someone take so long to say nothing omg. I know u understand. Love to u and jas, you have way more patience than I do 🤭
Lets put it like this: JM and the rest of the fitness industry now realize that CrossFit is bigger, more successful and more serious than they though it could ever get. So maybe if they bash it, people will get back to squatting on a foam roller and making funny handstands. I was a fitness instructor in global gyms for more than a decade, now I own a CrossFit gym. I can tell that there are a lot of fitness instructors AND CrossFit trainers that teach nonsense. But in the last few years, CrossFit trainers have been improving a lot more than global fitness instructors in the last decade. Period. If you don't like the sport, that's ok. There are enough options to find the right sport for everyone. But if you don't like it, don't bas it. At least, if you call yourself a professional.
