The running analogy makes no sense and you clearly missed his point. He’s talking about cheating reps to get faster. It’s like cutting across the track and calling it a “full lap”.
@Nick374a
@Nick374a 6 лет назад
And then saying "Oh, but everyone does it, so it's a level playing field". Why not invent rules to prevent this then? As others mentioned, I really don't have anything against Crossfit as a whole, but these "rules" and arguments are plain stupid.

No, it’s like finding a faster way to run. I’m a cross fitter and if I want to be able to perform more kipping pull ups in a minute, I do so by training weighted, strict pull ups. You neasayers have no pillar to stand on because you’re speaking from a lack of experience.
@claysmitty13
@claysmitty13 6 лет назад
taylor booth see the point, triggered cross fitter, is that a kipping pull up is like taking half a lap or doing half a rep. You’d build a stronger overall physique by training with strict movements. I’m glad you can do more half rep pull ups after training real pull ups...
@matriaxpunk
@matriaxpunk 6 лет назад
Clayton Smith well, then why run instead of hopping to the finish line? That definitely is gonna make your legs stronfger... Is you the one who's missing the point. In a race they just make rules about the course, not about the running form. You just gotta go from point A to point B as fast as possible, it doesn't matter how you do it. Making rules about the pullup form is like making rules about running form. Also, competitions would be so hard to judge. Even weightlifting eliminated the strict press because it was so difficult to judge.

I would simply explain to him that 60 cleans and jerks at 135 lb for time is a different workout being performed for a different purpose than finding a 1 rep max. Which would be the correct thing to do. But, if we where finding a 1 rep max (which we do all the time), I would listen to him, so would 99.999% of cross fitters. Most serious Crossfitters actually do take lessons from professional olympic lifters.

Kipping pull up is NOT a Calisthenics aspect is a Crossfit related matter! Now whether you want to call it "bad form" STRICT pull up is up to you. KIPPING pull up is a gymnastic movement, wheras STRICT pull up is pure strength, which in that case, forgive us for being such weak ass athletes. (Insert sarcasm)
@bkny143
@bkny143 5 лет назад
In Crossfit you have strict chest to bar pull-ups, push-ups and strict deficit handstand push ups in workouts and in competition. If he was certified and being honest he would know that. I have never seen anyone do a push-up like OFFICIALTHENX showed. That was straight bull. Looks like someone getting up from a burpee maybe. If OFFICIALTHENX spoke to possible hazards he felt could come butterfly pullups his video would have some merit, but since a kip is an actual gymnastics move, everything else he said is made up garbage. He should sue who ever certified him in Crossfit if that's what he was taught.

@Donmar21
@Donmar21 6 лет назад
Ben Views so then what is "proper form" for a strict pull-up? Is there a proper tempo, arm width, position of legs, hand position, etc. How would you judge strict pull-ups from one individual to the next? I know, how about just make the movement a defined range of motion (arms reach full extension, chin above the bar) and then each individual can do the movement they determine is most efficient for them and the judge just needs to verify the range is met. It is the same reason they have strict press, push press, push jerk and split jerk. There are many different techniques used to get the barbell from chest to overhead it becomes impossible to judge a "strict press" so only the range of motion is defined to make if fair. So, an Olympic lifter that clean & jerks in competition is not using proper form? Is he/she cheating because they are not strict pressing the barbell overhead?

I’m a CrossFitter and I appreciated Chris’s video because he emphasizes what so many crossfitters do in our sport; sacrifice fundamentals in order to compete and get fast times. I love Chris’s videos and I used his advice to do my first muscle up. As a crossfitter, we learn from many disciplines. As soon as we learn one movement, we find at least 3 more we aren’t proficient in. And some of us cut corners to get as proficient as possible in multiple movements.. that’s how so many of us get injured. When it comes to pull-ups, our gyms teach strict pull-ups first and we progress towards kipping and butterfly. I had no idea how to perform a butterfly pull-up nor had I seen one before joining Crossfit. Now, I find all 3 pull-up types acceptable and useful. In conclusion, Chris is pointing out some of the concerns we have in our sport, but those drawbacks occur because so many of us simply want the rewards without working on the fundamentals. That’s not a Crossfit problem, that’s how people are with any endeavor.

That CrossFit isn’t claiming that a kipping or butterfly pull-up is a good way to build strict strength. The guy in the original video is failing to see that CrossFit is its own sport, his point that strict pull-ups are the ‘correct’ way to perform a pull-up is ridiculous because in the sport of CrossFit there a number of ways to perform a pull-up. Efficiency is key to the competitive aspect of CrossFit but any good CrossFitter will not make efficiency the primary focus of all of their workouts.

I'm doing Crossfit for 3 years. I really enjoy this sport but I'm sorry : THENX is right. Butterfly pull-ups are dangerous for rotator cuff and labrum and I still don't understand why this form of pull-up still exist in competition. It is possible to put high intensity and speed and rythm on strict mouvement. The goal could be the same ! Strict pull ups aren't only a strength move. If I say "Olympic Weightlifting is a strength sport, not a metabolic one" : It's completely false ! Doing multiple reps of squat snatch is creating a metabolic stress. And doing fast reps of squat snatch doesn't justify a bad or a different technique. That's part of the difficulty to seek of intensity through a safe and good form. So I don't understand why we have to create several different techniques for the same mouvement ? It's not the case for snatch and Clean and Jerk, so why should it be different for pull-ups ??

Focus on technique is great but Chris's argument is that when CrossFit create the idea of 'as many reps as quickly as possible' then form suffers. No matter how much technique training you do form will take a back seat and therefore the body suffers, it only takes a few bad lifts when you're in a hurry to do serious damage somewhere. Also, those fucking kipping pull ups have I HATE MY SPINE written all over them.

'CrossFitters' get offended because of their near religious commitment to a fucking work out. Do you think other high level disciplines aren't criticized? Anything else( bars/ weights- weightlifting/ rings/ gymnastics segments should be done with quality form without the time restriction to get a quality results. I usually do not comment but this video caught my attention. I have participated in athletics my whole life as a triathlete and then I transitioned into gymnastics, mma and then Olympic lifting as well as CrossFit for 7 years. Every time someone says something you don’t like you seem to take it personally as most crossfitters do. Perhaps this is a generalization but I notice in other sports people don’t seem to get so offended when the validity of their sport is in question. They simply substantiate their claims or move on and all you are referencing is your opinion and sole experience which does not provide any merit to your argument nor AthleanX. (He gave an opinion piece as well.) From a physiological and structural standpoint kipping pull-ups may have a standard but this does not make the movement efficient for the natural biomechanics of your body. He could not perform said kipping pull-ups to your standard because his body is used to doing them efficiently. It’s a natural motion to pull your body weight up. It is unnatural to repetitively place your shoulders in a compromising position via kipping. As a swimmer I would perform butterfly and backstroke and the repetitive motion destroyed my shoulders regardless of how well I warmed up or cooled down. Now I perform a lot of preventative measures before lifting. My own experience which again is not derived from any statistical data has provided me insight into CrossFit. I used to attend workouts at my box 6 x a week and witnessed how misaligned form was encouraged. I have been to 30 different boxes down the east coast. When your class sizes get larger and everyone is sweating and panting and the music is going not once have I witnessed a coach keep an eye on every one of their clients. CrossFit may be fine for an athlete who is used to those workloads and variations however for anyone with health issues or had remained stagnant through the year I seen some brutal injuries. I was going to school to become a physical therapist at one point and during the course of my education I realized how counter productive this sport was. I love the workouts just not the standards or the encouragement displayed to perform a standard however inefficient. Any experienced athlete can see these inadequacies so do what you want people just grow annoyed I feel when CrossFits express their option to verify what should be evidenced as facts. I think if people did not become so offended and could acknowledge some movements and areas could stand to progress regardless of the accepted status who people would become more open minded to listen to advocates such as yourself. I have a lot of respect for these athletes just not the environments not the style of training and I feel as though just because you can train does not mean you can coach for those are two distinguishable skill sets.

Hi, I think if you have done so many sports, you are an awesome athlete and therefore you should know that in one sport, being efficient is not the same as in another sport, for exanple, you said you did mma, I do boxing and I think we can agree that the boxing stance is very differant from an mma stance and that keeping a boxing stance in mma would be insufficient. It is the same with calithenics and crossfit the goal of crossfit is to do as much reps in less time, meaning that a kipping pull up is way more efficient, but in calithenics the goal is strength and performing advanced bodyweight exercises so to progress to muscle ups ot weighted pull ups you need to train strict pull ups. This leads me to the conclution that both pull ups are efficient for their own sport and for differant goals.

dichotomy of crossfit "these techniques make us more efficient but doesn't decrease the work that we do" --BUT--the whole point of every single form, technique, or function in crossfit IS to decrease the work that you do. butterfly pullups are designed to use momentum to decrease workload on the muscle thus enabling you to do more faster for example. you are confusing efficiency with decreasing effort. there is a difference. and that is what the guy in the video is saying. also, there is a difference between competition in crossfit and training to get more fit or capable....and strictly speaking if all the movements in your regimen used daily prioritize that decreased workload then you will not get stronger as fast as working towards strict movements. noone will ever be able to do strict pull ups as fast as kipping...and noone will ever be able to develop strength as fast if they kip...a strict movement burns more calories than a momentum based one...so...for the average person trying to just be more healthy doing strict movements will create the same cardiovascular health and they will be stronger even if they do fewer overall movements... the only logical reason to do the kipping is specifically to compete in crossfit, but the guy is not talking about competing he is talking about training for all those looking to engage strictly for health reasons...now there are some pros to crossfit like the cult like atmosphere and socialization that may help people be more consistant and so forth, so it isn't like crossfit is bad, its just technically less efficient...but if you enjoy it then don't worry...though it may be wise to grasp the concepts around using momentum since knowledge is power...

@@mmazourov it's got more to do with CF pushing speed under high fatigue while doing extremely precise movements, that's the main problem the scientific lifting community has with CF. I love the fact that CF has a diverse range of movements and patterns, but as an advance lifter, even I would be concerned doing snatchs/cleans and any barbel movements at a high resistance with speed as the competitive factor. There's just no way I could keep my form perfect while trying to execute at a high speed at my max ability. In order to do these movements correctly it takes me a great deal of focus and mind muscle connection, this pretty much disappears at high speed and fatigue... Resulting in injury, I don't see how this is hard to understand.

I don’t think Chris knew that people train differently for different reasons. I didn’t know that before working out. I learned watching people do it and then explain they were training that way for a certain sport. Which makes complete sense now. Of course you would want to improve on what you actually need. It’s not about being ripped or bulky for everyone. Just like body builders train to get bigger but that doesn’t mean you should train like them unless you want to look that way. That’s not to say don’t learn certain things from them but unless you want their results 100% then you shouldn’t do everything exactly how they do.

The problem with 'Crossfit' is that it tries to make a sport out of gym training. Gym work should be practiced with good form as one is training with a goal of body-improvement, not competitive 'max-out' at all costs. Corners are not to be cut in the gym as this is to deny oneself the best possible workout. I do like the idea of seeking to bridge multiple disciplines, but Crossfit is suffering with teething problems and consequently comes across as a fad. It needs to iron out aspects of its sport, not least its laughable "pull ups".

CrossFit is a sport and it would make no sense for it to have no progressions... it's in the science of any sport, progressive overload is key to progressive adaptation and improvement. on the other hand, Chris is pointing to the fact that kipping pull ups are accepted in competitions. or better, they're the norm now in competitions! the question is: what if the CrossFit games only accepted strict pull ups, strict handstand push ups, etc...? that way it would always be about being faster, but in a strict way. showing off real strength instead of finding more efficient ways to go through a movement without actually targeting the corresponding muscle group correctly

One thing I noticed: Doing "more reps" does not equal "more efficient" efficient means getting a job done, if you're not accomplishing anything, then it's not efficient, it's just a whole lot of time waste. Like you said yourself: I'd rather try to beat 18 perfect form pull-ups in one minute that will make me stronger, than 50 seizures that will make me waste one minute.

there are kipping pull ups, but i've never seen what he calls "kipping push ups". it's not a thing. crossfit does straight pushups, to an actually high standard at that. of course there are other (easier) forms such as dive-in pushups, but crossfit doesn't have a monopoly for them, and they aren't considered as the basic variety.

Strider __ there’s negatives in all sports. “The Problem with Crossfit” video, is ignorant and misinformed. 1. States there is no progression based strength in Crossfit, wrong 90% of work in Crossfit is based around periodisation and progressive over load 2. He gets confused about different modalities of training. He thinks kipping is wrong and speed is wrong. That is correct when focusing on building strength. But if you want to work on Conditioning, improve efficiency, develop explosive power through your whole body and improve your coordination. Then a kip is a good thing. Show me a gymnast that doesn’t incorporate a kip on an uneven bars routine or a rock climber/ninja warrior athlete that doesn’t incorporate a kip when getting from point A to point B through a jump getting there efficiently as possible? It’s the same in a CrossFit race. However all these sports would look at strength training and progressive overload to get the strength required, but also look at developing power and coordination with other training modalities. This guy is coming from a specialist back ground where he focusing on one thing. He then states that if you don’t do the same as him it’s wrong. He’s purely ignorant, as it’s different, and he cant seem to grasp the concept. It’s the same as walking somewhere and seeing someone run past you and hate on them because they aren’t walking. @@1stpush "a rock climber/ninja warrior athlete that doesn’t incorporate a kip when getting from point A to point B through a jump getting there efficiently as possible? It’s the same in a CrossFit race. " Although I see your point I think this is very different. Just like his 800m race example was completely irrelevant: the goal of a race is to get to the finish line as fast as possible. Proper form will help you tremendously to achieve that. In ninja warrior the goal is to get to the end. It doesn't matter how you do it or which moves you incorporate. In crossfit you are doing various movements with the goal of doing them as fast as you can regardless if you have "proper" form or not. Why not just call it "getting chin over bar" instead of pullups then? They do clean and jerks with good form, handstands with good form, why cheat on pullups? I definitely agree though that based on what Chris has said and my limited knowledge of crossfit that they do need to do progressive work. It's not like they just cheat on every exercise, which officialthenx seems to assume just from the cheater pullup movement done at competitions. "It’s the same as walking somewhere and seeing someone run past you and hate on them because they aren’t walking." This is true if the one goal is just simply getting your chin over the bar. Sure, it's technically a "pull up" with the addition of momentum and cheating but I think that's where officialthenx gets offended and why he was bashing crossfit so much in his video. What if a professional weightlifter critiqued the issues of bad form in lifting during crossfit competitions. Would he get the same backlash from crossfitters?

if someone were training for calisthenics they would get better faster at those movements then training for crossfit...crossfit on the other hand has like 100+ movements you need to pretty good at overall in order to be dam good at what is trying to be achieved. Crossfit is not trying to turn someone into a 360 muscle up behind the back clapper...its more like i can do 10 push ups at a time and turn that into more push ups at a time AND NOT instead of turning those push ups into being able to do a triple behind the back clap push up. You see what im saying...crossfit is almost always about heavier weights/more reps/faster runs and not so much about more advanced movements. They do have some technical work like handstand walks and double unders but obviously not the degree of a master of jump rope or a gymnast....but you cant be a master of all....cross training is just a way of being good at everything.

You mean the one in which an amateur misses the key points laid out by an expert? Yeah. The fact that he doesn't recognize the problem with a kipping pull up is a giant red flag. Let me lay it out for you: the pull up is part of the crossfit repetoire because it is a fantastic exercise that - when completed with the full and proper range of motion - targets muscles that are often neglected by other exercises. Namely, the lats. However, that fantastic exercise has been replaced by kipping pull ups... which target the biceps and almost completely ignore the lats. So now crossfit ignores the lats... because most trainers are ignorant of the original purpose of the inclusion of pull ups, or ignorant of the innefectiveness of the kipping pull ups compared to traditional pull ups.

Question: if you dont gain anything from a kipping pullup other than speed, then why use it. If you train for strict, why isnt the competition also strict to reflect that? Wouldn't the better athlete be the one with the most strength and endurance for the muscles being assessed, rather than the one who has best optimized the movement away from using their strength? I do understand that the butterfly pullups do require strength in shoulders etc, but the point of my question is still there, I believe.

I think the key is about dinamics. Strict movements are statics, all the force comes from the muscles, but there is other way, using dynamics, your body mass to reduce the force needed. Then is faster, more energy efficient ( and then you can do more), but your range of motion is the same ( chin at the bar and straight arms at the bottom). I think Gymnastics is the top of calisthenics, on ring they use more static and strict force, on ring or pomo horse they use dynamics. Gymnasts must master on statics AND dynamics. Crossfit have some statics and some dynamics from several disciplines, that is what it is. Lately, street workout is usin a lot of dynamics on freestile ( they use gymnastic muscle up, for example using kiping, and is acepted).

I was surprised by your response. I actually found his criticism to be one of the first legitimate arguments against Crossfit. The reason being is that Greg Glassman and Dave Castro always say that Crossfit prepares you for the unknown and the unknowable. But we saw that fall apart the first time that Rich Froning saw a rope and the first time they introduced peg boards into competition. So it begs to be argued that if they threw some type of strict bodyweight exercise at athletes at the games that they would struggle. Also kipping push-ups may not be an actual thing but it is what Crossfit athletes do when they race through burpees instead of doing them in their strict and correct form. Also I have always cringed when Crossfit athletes or Greg himself has referenced Crossfit as a sport that includes gymnastics and rowing. Let’s be real here...no competitive gymnast would say that doing handstand walks and ring dips means that you are doing gymnastics. It’s not like you are holding an iron cross on the rings or doing vault, high bar, or a floor routine etc... Also any person that competitively rows would not consider rowing on a rower for calories to be a part of their sport or even comparable to being in the water and racing. Just my opinion.
@Gotterdamerung
@Gotterdamerung 6 лет назад
I can only speak to the rowing portion because I did crew in college. We actually use ergometers to train in the off season when it's too cold on the water or there is no water because it's all frozen and they actually have ergometer heats where people get together to "race" in competitions. The rowing machine was invented for crew athletes, so yeah, we do use it and it is and can be made more comparable to actually rowing on the water, especially if you put the machine on rails. But then we also use it to practice proper form and timing, so we're not just ripping on the cord as fast and hard as possible with no thought to how the oar would travel through the water if we did it the way cross fit athletes do. We also don't row for calories, we row for time, or reps, or distance.

@sma92878 6 лет назад
Joe McGovern, I don't have a problem with doing things fast. My point is that if you change the definition of the exercise, you're really not doing the exercise. That's like saying in order to complete a sit-up you just have to get your shoulders off the floor. Second, focusing on time for Olympic lifts leads to injury. I had the privilege of meeting an instructor of seal team six, one of the best physically trained teams in the world. The staff doc noted a MASSIVE increase in injuries. Clearly workouts the Murf are great but those don't include Olympic lifts for time. Frequent exercise should be designed to help avoid injury not increase the chance of sustaining an injury.
@joemcgovern7188
@joemcgovern7188 6 лет назад
Steve Aiello so you have some anecdotal reports of increased injuries. As for calling an exercise something different, there are descriptions for the "kipping" and "Butterfly" variation of the pull-up. Different activities. No one has tried to pass either off as a strict exercise. Just like walking in a running comp, you won't get disqualified, but you will get disqualified for running in a speed walking comp. As far as injuries go, people who compete have a greater injury risk, that's any sport. People who train safe and don't compete have a lower risk of injury. I find it strange that power lifters, body builders and people from a calisthenics background feel threatened by crossfit while gymnasts, rowers and runners don't have this feeling of competition, 🤔
@sma92878
@sma92878 6 лет назад
I don't feel threatened at all by cross-fit. I've done it, and my faience does it 5 days a week. What I want people to understand that there are trade offs, and when you're trying to do a movement as fast as possible, that is NOT designed to be done quickly you will make a trade. This is true in any area of life, just look at project management. Time, Money or Quality, in this case your trying to do something faster at the expense of quality of form. Personally I think cross-fit has a great community, what I don't like is that you can go get a level 1 cross-fit certification with 5 hours of actual hands on time, and then propagate improper form to people who don't know better. Some aspects of cross-fit are fantastic. In my personal opinion, any Olympic lift for time is not one of those things.
@joemcgovern7188
@joemcgovern7188 6 лет назад
Steve Aiello the Olympic lifts in competition are aimed at a 1RM weight. And the most dangerous for that reason. Reps for time are never at 1RM, if you are competing you should be comfortable with the weight, if it's in a WOD you should scale to the appropriate weight. You wouldn't tell a marathon runner they should only train at 5k distance, would you?? How far should someone row? Run, swim, handstand walk, lunge walk?? As far as they have trained to. As I any sport you do not go straight into competition level, you work up.

Sorry dude, but crossfit doesn’t earn the right to say it includes gymnastics. I have been a gymnastics practitioner for 5 years studying the art of movement, I also teach crossfit classes at my local gym as I have the qualifications to do so. But nowhere in crossfit does it include the strict form or body control progressions that gymnastics is based on so don’t be dropping the gymnastics word in the same sentence as crossfit.

If they did, then they would just be a gymnast...they obviously cant incorporate every single move or skill from every sport because then they would have zero progression. I understand gymnastics and the training of crossfit are in no ways comparable but they have taken excercises from gymnastics and incorporated them into programming.

i dont agree with that sentiment at all. an Olympic sprinter in the 100m sprints in a straight line as fast as possible. that is his sport. a football player takes a ball and sprints to a location as fast as possible, and creatively using blockers, passing, and teamwork within the designated area. so thats like saying that football player isnt sprinting because he isnt doing it in a straight line. its not the same no, but thats why its called crossfit and not gymnastics. its a different sport, its a different lifestyle. but it still incorporates those movements, into its own and then made it its own thing. be proud of the fact that you do gymnastics. let crossfitters be proud of their sport. both are EXTREMELY difficult, just in their own separate ways.

He doesn't know CrossFit as well as you obviously, but he clearly understands the fundamentals of applying appropriate tension, form and RoM. The whole point of strict form isn't just for quality of exercise, its also to mitigate risk of strain or injury. He wasn't digging at crossfit, he was criticizing how its described fundamentals are often neglected in place of obtaining a competitive time and how the discarding of strict form in some cases leads to a lack of any actual functional progression. Since functionality lies in the ethos of Crossfit, anything that doenst add value to that is going against it? From a functional mobility background myself and having been in the company of biokineticists and sports science experts, i can say Crossfit is one hell of a thing to these guys, not because CrossFit sucks inherently, but because the state of teaching and training of crossfit is damaging people at a higher rate than any other consumer fitness system. Consider the fact that CrossFit is a business first then a training discipline second and its only existed for around 20 years as a consolidated approach. That means firstly, the interests of the overlying structures of crossfit are to boost profits, and this is achieved by a mass rollout of the service of offering CrossFit training through thousands of boxes globally. The drop in quality of training is inevitable if you see the class size and client turnover at a typical box. very few average CrossFitters undergo the strict guided training you cite as necessary, only the pros, and even then, not all of them. Secondly it means the image of crossfit plays center stage. It's ultimately a business and so needs to look good and successful and have a hardcore community of elite pro athletes as its ambassadors in order to advertise CrossFit as an aspirational service and appease investors. This means the incentive is now placed on hyped up comps where spectacle plays as important a role than fundamental skill. And the easiest way to ramp up spectacle of a massive sporting event is to place a time constraint so that more stuff can happen and happen faster and bigger. Thats why you get diminished form "cheat" movements like butterfly pullups (yes its a skill that is embraced as part of the discipline, but it is inferior to the strict form created to mimic it). A competition where people are doing strict muscle ups and pullups would be a slow and arduous affair unless they've had decades of training from childhood. You are conflating his critique of the rampant prevelance of of improper crossfit teaching and practice with a blanket hitpiece on the whole idea of Crossfit. You're counter arguing his points with what CrossFit is supposed to be, while he's criticizing what you agree it shouldn't be. One thing i do agree with you on is pointing out his feeble comparisons of high level calisthenics techniques and a CrossFit athlete's abillity to pull them off. That's like comparing an F1 driver's inability to fly a fighter jet. That there was just his own little dick measuring contest. I bet if he hadn't yet learned the plache he wouldnt have referenced it. In your own words " its not what you do its how you do it"

@RECOOKER INDONESIA Pro crossfitters don't get injured from bad form, come on dude... some amateurs do, sure, but what's your point? I do crossfit and play football regularly and I've seen far more people getting incapacitating injuries from football than crossfit... many don't how to properly run, shoot the ball, jump, change directions... and suddenly bam!, you get a twisted ankle, a torn ligament etc... but you don't hear the same amount of hate at all. Long story short: everyone gets injured from fatigue, either pros or amateurs; some amateurs get injured from bad form, regardless of sport. We all do things wrong in the begining, it's normal. And it should change with time. If you have any sort of source that suggests injuries are higher in Crossfit than other sports, please shar. But I have a feeling you don't. Note: football is a contact sport. Therefore, many injures come from that, which is something that will never happen in Crossfit.
@rubensousa9216
@rubensousa9216 4 года назад
That third paragraph made me roll my eyes... That's like saying football is first of all a business run by FIFA and a sport in second. You could use the exact same logic and it would still make no sense. Isn't "Sabotage Elite" a for profit business? Sponsored by New Balance? That teaches Parkour? Does that mean you'd just grow indefinitely without regard for quality? Or do you consider yourselves to be people with enough judgement to grow steadily with regard for your students?... Profit doesn't mean lack of quality, don't make about others an assumption you likely wouldn't accept for yourselves. Now an important part: the vast majority of crossfitters will NEVER compete and are more than happy just to finish a WOD or to PR once in a while. Don't act like everyone in crossfit is a competitor, that's completely false. Flashy events are not about "crossfit" but mostly about the american ideal of putting up a show. Take it this way: - If you are a competing crossfitter, you will rarely have problems with bad form, because you are just too good. - If you are not, you won't feel as much the pressure of time or reps, and therefore your form will be less likely to break (this improving with experience, obviously) This leaves out ocasional competitors, sure. A small part of the community, and not doomed to anything by default. Note: many boxes offer mobility, weightlifting, gymnastics etc classes. You should also do your reasearch on how to improve your technique in order not to solely rely on the classes. Experience may very from box to box because people will also vary... that's not on crossfit, it's just how it is. Perhaps when Sabotage Elite starts teaching parkour worldwide you'll experience it.

@RECOOKER INDONESIA I really don't understand what you're saying. A footballer runs... that doesn't mean he wants to be a sprinter... and it doesn't mean he should either be always trying to increase speed or just quit... because he is a footballer, not a runner... Everybody "scales" at some point (mainly for good form reps(note the marks on "scales")), olympic weightlifers are not trying to PR every single training. Neither are crossfitters. And that claim about how you are always training slow fibers is completely ridiculous. Scaling doesn't mean you are not putting up more weight than when you do nothing... seriously, wtf... Do you even know what scaling is? Scaling is when you add less weight (or do a different, easier movement) than the maximum defined for that WOD, and ALWAYS assumes you are still not good for said defined maximum. This should be obvious: you don't tell a beginner to just start doing ring muscle ups, or rope climbs etc... I think you have some, non-solid at all, understanding of fitness but no understanding of Crossfit, and therefore you are just spouting random useless fitness facts mixed with ridiculous remarks that make your argument futile.
@rubensousa9216
@rubensousa9216 4 года назад
@RECOOKER INDONESIA "in fact i don't see why some people skip form just for reps." These are the kind of statements that show how oblivious people are about Crossfit. Nobody skips form for reps on purpose and nobody encourages skipping form for reps... It is true that some (I repeat, some) bad form might not be sanctioned by the refs, because Crossfit sees things as an end result. For example, if you are doing a deadlift, you are expected to have lifted the bar at arm lenght with a stretched body. If you get to this, your lift will be valid, even if you arched your back. HOWEVER... no serious competitor will do this because good form equals more weight lifted and less future strain. Don't get me wrong, you'll find videos of Crossfit competitions with bad deadlifts... because 1) some people don't know any better, which is a shame but it's people being people 2) PR'ing might lead to some loss of form even among professionals (don't tell me Oly lifters always haveabsolute perfect form, I also have youtube), and thus some competitors might not be able to handle it. 3) Those videos tend to be old, and Crossfit has come a long way from a mostly amateur fitness program to something very professional. And I bet whatver you want that those bad lifters lost in a big way. But I can't stress this enough: MOST bad form will result in a no rep; good crossfitters don't do bad form because that's not smart playing; and... NO coach will ever tell you to do bad form for reps because again, that's not smart in any way. To finish this answer: I never said you should always be doing light weights. What I said was: know your limits. If you are starting and you are attempting 45 kg after PR'ing at 40, be sure there's even a slight chance of pulling it off. If your form can't handle it, don't do it. Accept your current PR, move on, and wait for the next chance to hit 45. Some (few) guys do it and then get injured, I've seen it. That's not on Crossfit, that's on poor judgement, it could perfectly have happened anywhere else.

This is 2 people comparing their preferred sport. It's like Rugby compared to American Football. The rules are different. The standards are different. Rugby players will try football with moderate success, and vice versa. Is one different from the other? Yes. Is one better than the other? That's a matter of opinion and not at all something that can be proven. Crossfitters love their sport just like bodybuilders love their sport. The main difference that I have seen is Crossfitters have tried the other sport and decided that it wasn't for them they don't bad mouth the other sports. problem with crossfitters, they cant admit the cons about their style/sport. as mentioned in Chris's video, every lifting style has pros and cons he wasnt bashing their sport. before i get to detailed my experience with weightlifting weight- 88kg 193 lbs Snatch- 110kg 242lbs CJ-150kg 330 lbs those are my best numbers at roughly 19 I am weaker now due to life,job,college haha Trained under level 3 USA weightlifting coach. I have no videos so everyone has the right to call bullshit. anyways i digress. as Chris mentioned the problem with crossfit is you want to do everything as fast as possible by greatly sacrificing form. This is due to crossfit "coaches" getting a certification in one day and all of a sudden there qualified to teach olympic lifting. It took me at least 6 months to be efficient in the snatch and clean and jerk. (some may progress faster, some slower). what i trying to say here is you have crossfitters performing the lifts with shit form... and it is the grand majority of them. Im not saying the outliers like rich froning etc.. They have had previous training from college coaches etc from collegiate sports coaches who are qualified to teach as such. when you get the average joe walking into a crossfit gym and a good majority of the time the coach has a crossfit cert... which dosent mean anything. As chris said there is no progressive stages for anything. I practiced from with a pvc pipe for about 3 weeks before i could even touch a bar and so on. Theres no attention to detail from the coaches to the students. Im not bashing crossfit, This is just one of the major cons about it.. you pay a fortune for crossfit to be taught by someone who dosent know his ass from a hole in the ground.(Not every crossfit box). Crossfit with good coaches is a great way to get in shape, everyone can agree on that. Just so crossfitters reading this dont get too but hurt heres cons about olympic weightlifiting just too show some humility. cons Awful cardio Joint pain( regardless of how good your form is, heavy weights crashing down on you every day is not good for the body.) Regardless of form the injury risk of weightlifting is quite high due to the complex motions with heavy weight. will experience knee problems from squatting ATG all the time. lol im done with my rant i think i showed my point.

Yeah, crossfit does have a real problem with it's coach certification procedures, they're basically bullshit. If you get a good coach, then you're golden, but a shit one can mess you up. There is progression, it's just not visible on the WoDs; the prescribed WoD is an ideal, achieving it as written is called "RXing it" and is apparently quite an achievement (I have no concept, I'm not a crossfitter, I'm getting this from crossfit friends), but you can substitute movements if you're not ready. For example jumping pull ups or ring rows if you can't do pull ups yet

The coach had only a two day cert, olympic lifting should not be done at speed and a lot of the geberal public aren't suited to it. Crossfit isn't bad perse but I believe you need to be a highly experiemced and educated caoch to teach it. None of the wods were ever caled down, and a lot of the coaches would just beast people. I stopped CF a long time ago - mostly because of the culture, not the movements. What I will say is that I think he’s taking what he see in Games athletes and think that’s what the general population is doing. Also, he’s using butterfly pull-ups to make his entire point. My old box wouldn’t even let us do butterfly pull-ups in our workouts. Also while he is right about doing things for speed May sacrifice form - 1. That’s why you can and should scale the workout for your abilities and 2. The coaches I know will literally stop you in the middle of your workout to lighten the weight if they feel you’re firm is degrading. Also weird to use stuff in his sport to prove that CF isn’t making people stronger. I’m sure he would struggle with clean and jerks, snatches, etc. because that’s not what they practice.
