0:42 Don't you just love how Jim wrestles with them as soon as they start to celebrate, like a referee in a boxing match trying to break a clinch ! Haha 😂
Regarding Jim and his handling of the contestants, I remember they filmed at least three episodes of Bullseye a day and were on a tight schedule. Jim would have the producer yelling into his ear piece to get the winners off because the next batch of contestants were waiting in the wings ready to start filming.
No one else could have done it. No one. Totally made the show his own ably assisted by smooth Mr Tony Green. Real people loved this show - massive audience figures on Sunday early evenings. One kids adored watching with their grandparents 😍🇬🇧😍
These were people who would only dream of that kind of money back then. Imagine how happy they were, debts they could pay, treats they could give their kids.
fishyc150 That's what I always enjoyed about Bully. The vast majority of contestants who where salt of the earth working class people. We chuckle now at the idea of winning an Austin Metro, two weeks in Tenerife, or a caravan, but in the 80s and 90s, those prizes would be unimaginable to a lot of the contestants. Always wanted my dad and my uncle to go on and win us remote control colour TV, and of course a plastic bully! 😊
Resident Elect Austin metro?? That was never a prize on bullseye! That would be the equivalent of winning the euormillions in today's money. And as for the bully- it was a "bendy" bully. Not "plastic". How very dare you!
I love to see people win! And all for the throw of a dart! Woot Woot! They don't make game shows like this anymore. Now all the contestants are middle-class professionals whereas Bullseye was nore for a working-class audience and contestants in my boring opinion.
JIM TRYING (AND FIGHTING) TO KEEP ORDER AND CONTINUITY!!! - COME HERE, COME HERE, ALL AHEAD TOGETHER, COME LOOK AT IT TOGETHER, COME HERE AN LOOK AT IT, WATCH IT, LOOK AT IT, OVER THERE, STAY HERE, LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK, THERE IT IS THERE 0:44 LOL
I remember watching this at the time. I was so happy for the two fellas when that treble 20 went in after he'd hit the single 1. Five bags of sand was a fair bit of wedge back then and way better than a caravan or a huge screen 22" telly. R.I.P Jim.
Gotta love old Jim, awesome host but @ 0:46 it does look like he's breaking up a big fight in a night club 😂😂😂 i love this program from the days not so long ago when people had simple tastes and were content with a few quid, not like these days where no amount of money is ever enough 😕😕
Just plain embarrassing - it looks really aggressive, as if he is about to slap them if they don't play ball!! If you look at other clips, he's the same.
Not gonna lie but that has to be one of the most expensive money ever seen in UK's Game Show history people who are fans of Bullseye can remember back in the day. RIP Jim and Tony.
I know one of the programme's associates. This was the beginning of the end of Bullseye. Central, then Carlton, started tinkering with the format such gambling for the cash and prizes rather than just the prizes. More changes were planned, such as this giveaway, but the creator Andrew Wood was apparently unhappy with them, plus ratings had dropped since the network moved it from Sundays. I believe they were looking at bumping up the cash values but it would have taken the fun out of the series.
@@CricketEngland Everyone slags off Bullseye for its prizes, calling it a cheap show but it anything but cheap. It gave away what it could due to IBA's prize limits, and most people were delighted to win a few hundred quid and a similar amount in prizes. And it was a damn sight better than what BBC was giving away!
I never understood why they had to rush to wrap up the show immediately after the last dart is thrown. Jim’s wrestling the guys to the ground to get them to stand at the prize for the closing credits. Every week! He must have known it clashed with housewives of Britain dropping the Sunday dinner onto the tables and shouting everyone through. It’s hilarious.
Bit late for dinner, wasn't it? Dinner was in the afternoon. Bullseye coincided with tea: sandwiches made from leftovers from the joint, Mr Kipling's individual cakes, and a big mug of tea. (I appreciate I'm turning into Peter Kay)
From what I remember they filmed at least three shows a day. Jim had the producer yelling in his earpiece to get the contestants off because a new batch were waiting in the wings for the next show recording.
Twenty five hundred quid each and it was like a lottery win for them! Why bullseye was a great game, life changing money at stake for working class people, far better than celebrities playing for charities that they have the money to help if they choose anyway.
Apparently they have a budget of £6000 for the star prize but £6000 is an unusual prize in quiz shows who that’s why they gave away £5000 away It’s about £19,000 in to day money
What they probably did is upped the value of the prizes on Bully's Prize Board with the extra £1000. The Producers did special a deal with a speedboat company so they could get the speedboats for cheaper than retail meaning they had more money for Bully's Board. Very clever usage of the budget.
Say what you like about Bullsye but you'll likely never see more people get excited about winning on a tv show, the contestants, the audience and the hosts.
5 grand was a lot in the early nineties especially for the working class. A house in newcastle cost about 1200 although the sh*thouse was outside as they are with up north homes.
@@CricketEngland Shared between 2. But fair play- enough to be worth a jump about. Bank of England inflation calculator puts £5k value in 1993 (when this was made) at a value of £10400 in 2021, btw.
People often say prizes were shit, but today you can turn on and watch pointless(good show but..) and see someone going for a grand- 500 each i guess. plenty other daytime shows of this age and after offered no more than a grand or just a trophy. Yes i do know this was a one off prize but even the car or holiday was much better than similar shows.
