Joe...always a gentlemen....continued to call Jimmy Braddock "Champ" every time he saw him. Joe said that Jimmy Braddock was the bravest fighter he ever faced. God bless both of these great men....and thank you for posting this. You're a solid-gold person.
alot of fighters back then were overrated. not joe louis but his opponents were overrated. theres no way anyone with boxing knowledge can look at these oldie fighters styles and say they would of beat fighters from the 70s til now. no way. braddocks fighting style looks as bad as journeymans from today.
Shang Tsung marciano was criticized for fighting in a weak era. he never fought any prime dangerous contenders of his era. he beat charles, walcott, louis, and moore but all were past their primes when he fought them. especially louis. i love rock and im sure many avid fans do but we have to be honest. rocky wasnt the most talented guy out there and its hard to see him beating the elites.
Comparing these old legends with new boxers is like comparing old cars to new cars. There is no point. They have spent decades on perfecting boxing style, nutrition, and training methods.
See also the careers of Willard, Carnera, Abe Simon...Joe Louis would be a very dangerous opponent for Lewis or Klitschko. Holyfield or Bowe would have much better odds against a prime Louis.
