For me it’s Jim Clark always...I’m not interested in your Senna’s or Schumacher or Fangios, with the deepest and greatest respect to those incredible racing drivers but I will always pick Jim Clark as the greatest racing driver of all time...not just for his supernatural ability behind the wheel of any race car, his adaptability to any set up in a race car or his incredible accuracy and smoothness that put him ahead of any other driver in history, it was the content of his character as a man, his humbleness all put together in one incredible package that is the legend Jim Clark, never to be forgotten and still gaining F1 fans as the generations pass

GOAT is such an overused title. The fact that there was a driver means there will be a driver that is at least as good if not better. There is not a single sport in the world where that is different. Considering that only suicidal individuals drove races back in those days clearly clouds the judgement of many “fans” and somehow ending up conceding to a tree or a wall elevates the status beyond reason. Was he the best driver in his days? Clearly. The Greatest of all times? No. Nobody is.

The bit where he drove the car holding the stick and steering with one hand and won, also where he switched of the engine during the corners. It goes to show that if you love something and have a passion for it you don’t complain. As cheesy as it will sound, but these two bit did teach me to stop being a snowflake when my wifi goes out for 5 min, I hope i stay true to my work like him and even get fraction of the mentality he had. Also the 63 races per year, that day and age the endurance shown by him was just utter madness. I hope the story showed in Grand tour doesn’t go in vain and truly inspires people even the slightest bit. :) Thanks to the producers, writers for showing this.

@LeoWuerde vor 1 Jahr (bearbeitet) JIM CLARK - By far the greatest driver ever - no doubt. He is and was "The Best of the Best" (Fangio, Senna, Prost, Stewart and countless others about Clark). No other driver in history until today was so superior as Clark - No other driver as so much "Grand Slam" - Pole/Win/Fastest Lap/Leading every lap of the race - like him. And all that from just 72 starts... ! This man is the Olymp of driving - the Michelangelo of racing - a dynamic art at the highest level. So smooth, so precise, so fast....simply out of this world. One, who won in Spa by 5 minutes (!) in monsoon rain with only one hand at the wheel (!) because of gearbox trouble...One, who takes back a complete lap (!) in Monza and back into the lead... One, who took pole on the original 22,8 km Nürburgring track by 9 (!) seconds and more....One who won Indy by 2 whole (!) laps... In 1965 he had the most succesful year of a driver in the history of the sport: He won the F1 World Championship, the Tasman Series with F1 cars, the Indy 500, the French F2 Championship, the British Touring car Championship, totally over 50 (!) victories in one season !!!! For eternity and by lightyears unmatched in the sport. That`s just some examples of his mesmeric unique genius...

I wish I knew who the man is at 0:21 - obviously part of Clark's pit team - but he is truly the one who brings the first-person understanding and the pathos to this story. A big tip of the hat to him as well to Jim Clark's memory. Thanks to you, too, Hammond, for giving us the straight deal.

That guy is David Sims. Known as Dave beaky Sims, back then team lotus only had 4 people representing them. Two drivers and each driver had a mechanic. Driver Graham Hill had mecahnic Mike Gregory and Jim Clark had Dave sims. They were quite close as they worked together the whole time clark drove for lotus. In interviews David Sims always says that throughout his career remembering the events of Jim's death on April 7th 1968 still makes him tearful to this day.

Thank you for doing this segment. It is great to see motoring and racing legends highlighted. I must admit I feel rather ashamed that I never knew much about Jim Clark or his career short of that he won at Indy once. But alas we are bombarded with American racing greats (I'm in Canada) and see or here very little about the greats from across the pond. I hope these segments become a be regular feature on the The Grand Tour. Maybe 3 per series with each of you hosting one of them.

This is the sort of thing I always enjoyed the most from Jezza/Hammond/May & Wilman&Chaps crew of TG/Grand Tour. They do all sorts of things brilliantly, but these beautifully written tributes - whether it's historical, or sometimes a "love letter to a car" - always touched me the most. The Senna, Lancia, Saab tributes, this Jim Clark one, along with poetic reviews like one of Alfa Disco Volante - they're pure gold. They can joke about gentleman's sausages and do the three stooges stuff, and have me in stitches, but it always struck me in contrast how impactful it becomes in moments like this. You can see a lot of youtube channels / car media throughout the years have borrowed / adopted their style in one way or another, be it editing, narration, writing... And in comments, you'd see, "wow, this is just like TG/Grand Tour", which just shows how it's a praise. I wish in whatever format Grand Tour carries on for following seasons, they can find a spot for this sort of stuff.

Jim Clark was the best driver ever, I watched him drive at Mosport in 1967 pouring rain on and off all day Jim would come flying by this downgrade part of the track at the bottom a sharp left turn which the water would accumulate, as he was downshifting you could see about 5-6 inches of clearance on the front tires then he stab the throttle and the tires would again touch the ground and up again about 3-4 times he never used the steering to turn because he would have understeered off like others and instead used the throttle to steer the rear tires and kept the front tires straight every time he came by the same thing no one else was driving as he did, they had to slow down considerably or hydroplane off the track, not Jim perfect every time, a combination of throttle stabs front tires bouncing in the air and he was gone. After seeing that I knew this guy was not a mear mortal but a racing God, and to this day, I have never seen anyone attempting what Jim was doing without a second thought, of course he won the first Canadian Grand Prix, beating many of the greats of those times..

If I was the other drivers, I would have quit racing! You don’t care about my safety then I will not race! 👈🏿
