I didn't take the comment he made to be racist but I guess it could be construed as such. Poor taste maybe (and before I'm piled I'm I'm black), but I took it as a good but not exactly good punchline
@@BrandanTheBroker when I first heard it too I thought meh. joke's been told before. But then I thought the Ethiopia stereotype could've been any other food but Jimmy HAD TO pick a bucket of KFC when the Blacks in that analogy refers to Black Americans eating at KFC because it was affordable and have nothing to do with the blacks from Ethiopia. So I concluded that was indeed a racist comment. Not offended by it, just pointing out it is racist.
Let's be honest, who hasn't blocked their own family on social media? I have to see these people in public, I don't want them to see the shit I post on the regular.
Here's reality: neither the "smark" nor "anti-smark" crowd wants you to think for yourself as a fan. I've seen and been on both sides of the fence at points in my life, and I've had to learn just to watch what I like and let others watch what they like. It causes a lot less tension and anger to just do you.
Look at some of the comments this throwaway meme/joke received. You were called a cunt, a dumbass, and Cornette's finances were compared favourably to your entire family (whom I'm sure that youtuber is intimately familiar with). It's dreg-like behaviour such as this that makes me want nothing to do with the person they're defending, and I generally side with Cornette on most opinions. Utter scumbags. And yes, Jim very much does care what others have to say about him, he's incredibly sensitive to people's opinions.
True True. Glad you care enough to concern yourself with my personality flaws. I’ll work on it, and get back to you, and let you know if I ever achieve non-douchebag status. PS. Have a pleasant day or don’t. I don’t give a shit either way, 🤷🏻♂️
The “Us vs Them” culture is not just in wrestling. It’s creeping into Everything. “Chocolate and Vanilla” I’m not surprised that came from Vince. He might be out of touch, but he understands the business from a big picture perspective.
Yeah amigo, really Us Vs Them mentality may be one of the most ingrained traits of human psychology but I really think that the Us AND Them mentality should be worked on more and more in this day and age. Just looking at age we're in and focus on the points of the other side and come to a compromise that tempers the strengths while minimizing the weaknesses. This is applicable to everything, all it needs is just people to talk, not shout. For people to listen, not ignore. Well this went oddly philosophical.
Say what you will about Vince, but while he wants to be huge, he understands he's never going to get everyone. Hell, if he'd stop trying to break into things outside wrestling, he'd go down as the best businessman.
Actually, I think the victim mentality rivals it too nowadays. The reason why I say this is because you hear people screaming about sexism, racism, etc so much nowadays, that nobody knows when real racism, sexism, etc is actually happening. And now it is bleeding into pro wrestling too. Cornette is a person who I think is just a grumpy old man who made the "Us vs Them" mentality, but I also think the fans made the victim mentality as well. Sorry, but that is how I think, and I really don't want to think that :(
Some people don't get that you can like 2 different things in the same form of entertainment. There are people who like both AEW and WWE but there are others who think you can only like one and that you have to pick a side and that if you don't like one you're a fanboy of the other or that if you like one you hate the other for no reason. It's like the whole console gamers and PC gamers thing, DC and Marvel that kind of thing. People can like both but some think it has to be one or the other.
Corny's biggest problem is he's myopic. He believes he knows how everything must be done and if you disagree, he can't adapt. He'd scream at the clouds if they formed Santino Marella's face as one example.
Cornette has lots of stories where, when he was in creative, the other people would complain he would bully them into doing what he wanted. In his mind he was totally reasonable and they were complaining for no reason. In reality he scared the crap outa them! Its hard to be critical of yourself and poor Jim does not have that ability at the moment to realise this... I still think he's fantastic, he's just like us all, not a bad guy, not a good guy... A human.
I respect Jim for his knowledge of wrestling history, his rants on Russo, Herd etc are funny and his stories about being on the road and such are interesting, what gripes me is he watches NXT and AEW to just shit on it and then he always says it puts him in a bad mood after watching it, Jim really needs to find something else better with his time.
@@cwm6203 I don't? I listed them separately. So does rich vs poor. So yeah lot of us vs them and will continue to be so until there is a collective of WE THE PEOPLE.... Lol then there probably be an alien invasion or animal uprising or some shit just to keep the us vs them going in some form or fashion
Twitter was a mistake. Hell, honestly, that’s one of the worst things about Internet communication: you end up learning more and more Never To Meet Your Heroes, because you have bad interactions with them and realize that your personalities clash with them just as much as with anyone else. I’ve had interactions myself where I’ve become disillusioned with content creators I’ve liked when they’ve been unnecessarily rude to me and unable to handle disagreement. You’re usually a pretty good dude on the Internet and interact with your commentators with civility. So I guess the lesson to take from this is: with all due respect to Corny’s accomplishments in the wrestling business, when it comes to the issue of Internet interactions, don’t be like that guy.
Dan Morgan Oddly enough circus clowns give blood, sweat, and tears to their business as well. They travel all year and spend time away from family. They're performers as well. What makes wrestling so much superior? Kind of condescending.
@@kyewilson7837 does it though? If people show up and everyone is safe at the end then is there a black and white answer? Enjoy what you enjoy. Don't sweat so bad the stuff you don't unless its unsafe and people are getting hurt
David C yes because people seem to have this impression that everyone can get along in the wrestling business. certain fans don't like others opinions so that makes it impossible and everyone just wants bookers and promoters to do what they ask and If they don't it isn't good it's a cutthroat business and like it or not business is war that's just the way it is
@@kyewilson7837 When it comes to bookers and the wrestlers themselves, that's another story. Fans will always have their favorite(s) and will want them to be on top, or at the very least, not job to each and every other guys in the back (AKA getting buried), and that where that cutthroat attitude of the business comes in, because in the end, you can't please everyone. And I get it, especially in the current war we're in, between AEW and WWE, that people will want you to choose between one or the other, with the risk of toxicity and/or elitism rising between those said fans (who are more trolls and haters at this point, like our dear Jimmy C.).
Cold Falco but jimmy wasn't a hater he liked a few of aew's talents but a majority of them are jokes and I get where old jimmy is coming. Cornette can tell a great story, filled with awesome one liners and he's very engaging. But I've noticed that it is always a one way street. He seems to be way too preoccupied and in love with his own opinions rather than being open to what other people think. And now I understand why Jim has so many rocky and broken relationships in the wrestling world.
Yeah I can accept him not liking Vince Russo but the fact that he wants to outlive the man to urinate on his grave says something about how truly deranged he is
The bingo card that had Donald Trump the gop Kenny Omega Joey Ryan Joey janela marko stunt Vince Russo Jim herd and the young bucks on it had me rolling that describes Jim Cornette to a freakin t 😂
Sad but so damn true. Seriously if had you drinking game where you had to take a shot if you heard any one of those words or phrases on that board used in one of his podcasts, you'd end up with alcohol poisoning by the end of it!
Why would he take a step DOWN? He's an interviewer for a bigger broadcast now (RoH)... :P Yeah, I know, color commentator is a step up from that, but still.
A few things I wanna go over here. First, I'm a fan of both Zane and Cornette, and seeing them implode like this is really sad, as I always viewed Zane as Cornette's anchor. Like, I agree with a lot of what Cornette says, but Zane provided the level-headedness that kept him cool in my eyes. In Cornette's defense, I don't think he's INVITING the bigots in the wrestling fandom to his channel, they just gravitated toward him because he wasn't afraid to say whatever he wants (I guess that happens with most people as age goes up). As for the Justin Roberts thing, I don't think he implied he was a pedophile, just said he came off as one. But I can still see why it's really offensive. With the "n*gger" thing, I don't know for sure but I think it's just him keeping kayfabe and getting heat, because back then apparently everyone was in character all the time in public. At least I hope that's what it is, Jim's never struck me as racist. I'm personally not a fan of Joey Ryan, as I find his gimmick to be wholly obnoxious, but I don't take it as seriously as many of the Cult of Cornette members do. So I don't really follow Cornette to incite hatred or anything, I do it because I enjoy hearing his stories and opinions. It's the same reason I follow Zane, and have for even longer than I've followed Cornette. With all of this said, and I AM a fan of both, but I have to admit that Jim does have a major habit of blocking everyone on Twitter nowadays for reasons that are usually valid, but in cases like this, are unnecessary. Because you didn't exactly say anything against him in particular, it's the people who tagged Jim that stirred this all up. Jim just perceived it as an attack. I hope that someday the two of you can talk this out and fix this somehow, as I'm a fan of both of you, but it'll probably be difficult to do with you blocked on Twitter... 😕
I think the chances of them making up after this absolute burial of a video is highly unlikely. Jim was probably inundated with people tagging him with Zane's post and for all we know he could of been having the mother of all bad days. Regardless he over reacted...as we all can sometimes. But to make a video which basically vilifys the guy that helped promote you? To slag of his user base as a bunch of hate filled sheep who agree with every uttered word out of the man's mouth and say they're essentially wankers (to old mid South wrestling shows apparently) is way out of line. We're your comments somehow misconstrued by Jim Cornette? Without a doubt in my mind they were! Was your reaction fair and unbiased with reasonable and logical arguements? No. Certainly not. You came across as a backstabbing butthurt little pissant and I will no longer watch you. Showed your true colours in this one. Horrible
Johnboydojo he didn’t say they were wankers, he said they can stick an old Mid-South DVD in and have a wank for all he cares. He’s saying there’s nothing wrong with wanting to watch old school wrestling, but as he said in the video, wrestling never moves backwards.
@@johnboydojo One of the most ridiculous comments I ever read, so Brian was supposed to sit down and take it? No, Brian was right, Jim's fans are exactly that and if you disagree with that then you only provide evidence to back it up. Go ahead, don't watch Zane. He'll be fine without you and Corny won't care about you either. If anything, Jim backstabbed Brian.
That was a very well produced nine minute "ok boomer." Loved the cold open, too. That bridge is for sure super burned now with all the dirt you put in the video. It was great.
I've always looked for different takes that could explain their rationale well while also being entertaining, and Cornette is that for me. Smoky Mountain wasn't a bad little promotion either, but I have no idea why a guy who booked Prince Kharis and the most fraudulent "Nature Boy" ever in Paul Lee can get offended at anything in wrestling. Never mind the entire rib behind the "Heavenly Bodies" being heartthrobs, or the Thrillseeker's introduction package.
I love listening to Cornette tell stories of his wrestling days, and his knowledge of the history of the business honestly may not be matched. That being said...Jim you are really starting to get to a point where you are becoming what you hate.
I already know what he's going to say "I don't even want to justify this guy with any exposure because he's just an internet celebrity who thinks he's a worker cause he worked a handful of indy bookings..." - I just fucking know he'll go for that low-hanging fruit, oblivious to the fact that he would not be as relevant as he was a couple years back if not for the internet and for Botchamania and his shoots - which were popularized... on the internet.
Hard to believe its already been a year. Keep up the good work. I COMPLETELY disagree with Corny's views on A LOT of topics, but still consider him to be one of the GREATEST Managers of All Time. UNFORTUNATELY he gets easily Butthurt when other people don't agree with his views and opinions. Thin skinned. Sad, but oh well. Keep up the AWESOME Work and content.
He'll engage in racist rants about Koreans eating dogs, but you dare mention him promoting steaks on his show as somewhat hypocritical and you're getting blocked.
Cornette still lives under the delusion that wrestling should be presented as an MMA style sport. So Brian saying that he was ok with Joey Ryan being in wrestling, was (in Cornette's mind) like saying that he was ok with Joey Ryan being in MMA. Cornette hates it when you compare wrestling to a circus act, which is what Brian did. Jim seems to forget that alot of old school wrestling talents have also compared wrestling to the circus. In short, Jim seriously needs to get over his childhood delusions and accept that wrestling was never real (a shoot), it was always fake (a work).
I like Zane. I like Jim. I will listen to both when I feel like listening. The only negative thing I will say, and it's against Jim, is that if you willingly participate in a match called "The Gimmick Battle Royale", at the biggest wrestling event of the year, you really can't complain about comedy wrestlers killing the business.
Well, he actually can... no one in the gimmick battle royal was considered a STAR. They were not the main dish, they were a garnish. Nowadays it seems like they are trying to replace the turkey dinner with stovetop stuffing and it is indeed lame.
@@MrJackRipner They were never really comedy acts... for the most part. Especially Iron Shiek... Million Dollar Man was never really a "STAR" he was almost (at least towards the end) more of a manager. Certainly not in the vein of Hornswoggle, Doink the Clown, Santina Morella, and the Gobbily Gooker.
I never thought I would be swayed in my opinion ever, even after years of reinforcement until I saw yesterday, my two heros, now bitter. I admit, it is hard for me to watch while bearing in mind the history between the two. I will admit, Jim Cornette NEVER brought me here, it was a recommendation from RU-vid years ago while watching WhatCulture which I also looked up to. Now after so many years...I hate to say it but everything Zane said was right. We as the fans have become one of the most toxic fan bases I ever seen in my life. We can agree Vince Russo is horrible, that certain wrestlers are just assholes but the style been so much of a fight that it is unbearable and like Zane, I wish it would end. I used to side with Jim when he talked about it though after Zane showed me that old infamous shoot clip about Vanilla and Chocolate that I honestly watched a week ago, it made me somewhat angry. I watched the comparison difference of the Jim of Old to the Jim of Now and it makes me upset. This was a champion of wrestling and he knew everything that was wrong with it...now it is like stoking flames over a fire, it is just not right anymore. To Zane, if you ever read this, even if you heeled on me by making a dessert nut video after I asked one without it, you are probably the real champion of wrestling now after everyone has come and past. I support you and I hope to more years to come of your work.
Let's just face it, this isn't just how wrestling fans act; it is everybody nowadays. People are either hypocritical, overly sensitive, stupid, or a combination of the three. Don't get me wrong, there are some good people not in that category, but VERY small sample size of it. And people like Cornette is one of the reasons why I think humanity is just gonna implode on itself and commit mass genocide onto itself until there is no one left, which is just a sad thing to know that is coming :(
How ironic these "true wrestling" fans don't understand the history of wrestling. You're 100% spot on. I can understand not wanting comedy all the time in wrestling, but that's why you need to be perfectly balanced when it comes to wrestling and comedy. You can't have too many of either side. If comedy pisses you off, just wait until new things start happening in wrestling. Wrestling evolves or else it dies.
After watching an SMW show where a wrestler was booked as a 3,000 year old Egyptian mummy, I will never listen to Corny complain about comedy wrestling or maintaining the illusion of reality in wrestling again.
@j sauce no, it isn't. Brody literally said that the reason he still did smaller shows because it reminded him of wrestling's early days when the carnival would come to town and they'd have somebody challenge someone in the crowd to a wrestling match
@j sauce I must have missed where I said he went out of his way to do shows like that, but you said it twice though so maybe you can help me out and show me where I said that
@j sauce that's some hilarious goalpost moving. Your original comment was that him calling wrestling a circus was a figure of speech. But it wasn't. Now you're trying to argue the nuance of why / how he worked smaller shows
@j sauce it's definitely a figure of speech but wrestling at the end of the day is basically a circus. Of course less eccentric and lack of animal acts (minus gobble D gooker 😂😂) but the fact that people pay hard earned money to be entertained is pretty much the same concept.
"Trevor Murdoch's the only man I've ever known that can strap a bucket of fried chicken on his back & ride a motor-scooter across Ethiopia.". --Jim Cornette.
@@SavantGardeEX I actually agree with 98% of Cornette's thoughts on wrestling. But for a person to talk about how terrible hunters are to hunt poor animals while promoting Omaha steaks, where cows are herded into a factory and slaughtered is a prime example of his hypocrisy
And yet Corny and some other old hardcores will still dunk on comic books and video games, despite both mediums absolutely dwarfing wrestling, culturally, financially, and frankly, creatively.
