Was a huge wrestling fan from a child in 85 to a young man in 2003. Slowly fell out with the sport and never really looked back. Until last year when i stumbled onto Jim Cornettes podcast. Love hearing about the older days before my time, wrestlers i loved and newer wrestlers i dont know well. When jim signed with MLW i was curious as to who they were and have been following their shows and now count myself as a fan again.
I love how you said 2003....... just before CENA.. hahha.. yet Cornette is so business he had to lie and say Cena was good(since he was OVW).. that is the only thing i hate about Cornette.. he lied about Cena... guy was never good.. he ruined wrestling...him and others im sure.. but he is the big target when i think of anti Pro Wrestling ....very overated in wrestling...overated in Rap music.. he was always a good actor.. so glad he is hollywood...
@@EXPLISITemcee Yeah once WcW went under i had a vision of my fav wwe with guys i liked from wcw mixed in... instead i got a bland brand split, wcw jobbers and an eventual end of the attitude era.
@@thespiralmatrix well we expected a true WAR.....Best of WCW vs BEST of WWF... but they watered it down.. that did not help....I was a fan of both..very neutral.. WCW gained my respect in 96....My biggest pet peeve is that wrestling is not treated like a sport.. wins and loses should matter..handing belts to people who are not truly worthy just turns people off.. they dont care who supports it.. they do anything to stay #1...
Honestly I really dug the Kofi match. I’ve been following it on SD so emotionally I was invested into it. It damn sure wasn’t a 5 star match but I was into it
HHH needs to realise he isn’t the megastar he thinks he is. HHH at nearly 50 does not need to be wrestling 20+ minute matches. This should of been 10 minutes tops.
@@AJ-xv7oh most of the "stars" are near 40 which 6 years past being a millenial. Good try though. The better wrestlers are the young ones, but they dont get the time of day
My favorite part of this episode was Jim talking about the Briscoe and rock n roll match that's coming up. And I couldn't tell if he was cutting a promo trying to put the event over or was being serious and that right there is what I miss about wrestling.
Has Jim ever explained the fundamental difference between pro wrestling and all other forms of fictional entertainment media, where pro wrestling can't work as well if the audience knows it's fake, despite the fact that every other form of fiction is obviously fake, and that doesn't damage peoples' ability to enjoy it?
I think this falls under suspension of disbelief. I've heard him say things along the lines of- everyone knows a movie is fake, but the actor never looks into the screen halfway through and says "Just want to remind you all that this is all bullshit" which is something poor pro wrestling does, unintentionally.
+Andrew Harrington Michael Cole kills any potential for anything to be cool. That's why he's such a shitty announcer. And yes, if something is cool it doesn't need to be said. If you point out how cool something is it makes that thing feel not so cool all of a sudden.
@@SpinosaurusTheProudSocialist To be fair to Michael Cole. He was good on commentary at the first WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament back in 2017.
Don't blame Cole, every word gets fed to him by Vince through an earpiece. Same thing happens with Renee Young and Corey Graves: they're great when you let them talk unscripted, but you can tell when they are repeating what they've been fed, it truly sucks. But the fault is not theirs when they follow orders and the product is shitty.
that Boss thing is not as solid .. remember when real bosses were real? now everyone is a boss... so the boss word means nothing when Sasha and other fake bosses take the word and pretend
TBTV I could even handle Viking experience/Viking raiders if they didn’t change their fn individual names too. Ray Rowe busts ass for almost 20yrs to build his name & Vince decides it never existed
In regards to Eli leaving Impact wrestling I actually have a lot of respect for him. In this day and age where violence towards woman is under the spot light an intergender match is probably the worst idea ever! Yes Tessa is a strong woman who can hold her own and I wouldn't mess with her for all the gold in the US but having a big strong lad beat up on a woman would never look good. Especially with how put together Eli is and knowing Impact they probably would have had him say something out of left field like "You don't belong in a mans business". If that had happened you may as well have had a sign saying "Impact Wrestling welcome to 1950" as you entered the arena.
I loved the Kofi Kingston match and win. I havent watched wrestling since 2000, i was so glad to see a black baby face champion. Growing up in the south, most black kids watch wrestling and they never had a champion. I was happy to see that. And it was a great match
@keller blair When I said "they never had one", that's WWWF, WWF, WWE. I used to make the same point of the rock. They wouldnt put the belt on Booker T or Lashley. I honestly thought Lashley would get it before Kofi. But Kofi is a face, a true face, a fan favorite. His blackness is secondary to his character and fan support. It is just a nice icing on the cake. I was glad to see it. I was thinking of the young black kids in my old apartment complex playing with their wrestling ring, talking about wrestling and their favorite wrestlers. They dont always have to have one, it is just nice to see one. Im not the biggest Barack Obama fan, but it was nice to finally have a black president. That is the feeling I get from kofi. As a lapsed wrestling fan, seeing his rumble clips made me love this guy, and seeing him get the opportunity was amazing. It might mean nothing to you and thats cool. I saw a couple of racist videos on RU-vid, one even calling Kofi a jobber and a disgrace to the title. It was a feel good moment, and i was into it and enjoyed it as a 28 year old man.
@keller blair no iki m saying what every black american is saying bout the wwe title i could give a fck reallyany one can be a champ in this bull sht sports entertainment
Seriously, GCW Bloodsport was awesome and probably more your speed. Catch wrestling rules, no pinfalls, no ropes and no going outside of the ring. The main event was amazing.
"Dusty did a plancha off the apron of the ring". Okay, I rewound that three times to make sure Cornette said it was DUSTY that did a plancha! Holy shit!
As someone that attended and was shown a lot on screen globally...I must say that during the Orton Styles match, the lighting was so bad that there was a yellow light blocking the view on many other fans that attended. Shouting please turn the light off in seven nation army style. Your assessment of the aftermath of WM35 with many fans waiting out in the rain waiting for an uber is spot on. During the main event an uber ride was $35 and change, when the show ended, the price went up to $120 and then kept climbing.
if you look at most people on social media it`s the same for them. i`m 24 and most people my age just post their food and whatever outraged them that day. people like to bitch and eat. old news
@@813South he's bad mouthed the WWE. He's also said some choice things about Kevin Dunn and to a lesser extent vince McMahon. I think pissing in the owners and executive producers corn flakes has something to do with why he isn't in their hall of fame yet. Just my guess though.
I hate to admit that but unfortunately Jimmy is correct about Alexa Bliss...! I always loved Alexa but as a babyface character presenting things she is definetely not as good as Alexa the arrogant heel! They need to keep her on the heel side. Then she will be great again on the mic...!
Jim's description of accessability to/from Metlife is an understatement. I've been to Mexico football games held there and it was HELL. Over 85,000 in attendance and the only secure means of public transportation there was the Metro-North. For those who don't know, Metlife (and Giant Stadium) are in the middle of a highway complex where having a car is a MUST. The stadium itself isn't even within New York State in general, but in New Jersey, which means drivers must pay tolls. Rail passengers have to wait as well, since Metro-North needs to wait for Amtrak to clear from Penn Station, unless you get off at Secaucus and take the PATH. This is the biggest issue since the West Side Stadium plan was killed. Even the Red Bull Arena is more accessible compared to Metlife.
As someone who became a fan of Corny through his rants and learned a lot of what is wrong with wrestling today through him, I gotta say it is a great joy to hear and see Jim active in the business these days and having a lot of positives to say about modern wrestling. I'm glad a wrestling mind like his is in the business again giving wrestlers the benefit of his experience.
@Harry Daniels thats what jim cornette said in the video. He meant that carmella wasn't important enough to remember, so he just said "some girl", Hence the "RIP carmella" comment. Fuckin dumbass
This was the least Wrestlemania "feeling" Wrestlemania ever. The whole thing was just flat, and it went way too long. A couple of notes I had: What the unholy FUCK happened to Charlotte Flair's face? She looks like she's been going a bit heavy on the plastic surgery. (BTW, the reason why her helicopter landed outside the arena was because her approach and landing were filmed on a different day.) They did Kurt Angle dirty. Jobbing to Corbin? The fuck out of here. Jim didnt even touch on the botched ending to the women's title match. The pin was counted with Rhonda's shoulders still up.
Kofi win imo is on par with bret hart first title win or shawn michaels first title win. Obviously kofi is not the next austin or rock but neither is roman reigns. The fans were as happy for kofi as they were for daniel bryan at wm 30. At least kofi was not booed out the buildin like reigns was at wm 31 32 33 34. Boos are only good when you are playing the heel which roman never was at any of those 4 wrestlemanias. I am not saying kofi will be a massive ratings draw but then again no one the entire roster man or woman is a ratings draw. even when the rock came back for his feud with cena he did not bring back the ratings to the levels of the attitude era.
Kofi was Austin or Rock over, at least by modern standards. This was THE match outside of the main event that everyone came to see. Yes Kofi benefited from Ali's injury but no one in charge thought he would be THIS over. Kofi paid his dues 100 times over and was EXTREMELY deserving of this match.
Miz gets way too many cheers and plays to the crowd. Plays a good guy on social media. He isnt completely dedicated to the character and its not his fault hes not allowed to.
There both over rated both of them mjf is a little bit better but mizz is one of the most boring stars I've ever saw his in ring is so boring and he's been pushed way to much compared to others he's a company guy
1 year later, I feel like MJF is a better worker, but Miz is still more versatile on the mic. I do think MJF is gonna be better than Miz by the time he his age.
In regards to Shane, I remember hearing a story that he was down to Earth in school that no one would have guessed he was THAT rich. Shane doesn't need to take the bumps he does but he chooses to because he loves what he does.
You must have loved aging, non-wrestler Shane McMahon kicking out of EVERYTHING (including Miz' finisher on a steel surface). Shane is a glory hog and an egomaniac. I really could care less that he is a tough guy - he is a crap worker.
Yeah, they've really done alot to burn off the Shane goodwill from the fans. I can only assume it has something to do with the conditions on which he came back to the company.
HHH reminds me of Ole's comment about Cornette. "..so many have come along since then whose been worse, (he) has gone up without doing anything". Hes the oldest guy whose been doing joke wrestling, so to the new brats doing joke wrestling, hes the locker room demi-god generale. Im sure the "new" WWE locker room calisthenics involve how to avoid tennis elbow when jerking off the guy above you. You can hear Hunter telling the boys (never has that term been truer) "I was blowing Shawn before you guys were born, Shawn blew Vince and Pat..one day you'll be blown, but today: wear your kneepads, boys"
Jim's point about trying to get out of MetLife is 100% accurate. I google'd it the morning after after hearing about everyone having to wait 3-4 hours to get out. It's in the middle of a swamp with nothing around it but highways and warehouses. Honestly it's the worst location for a stadium I've ever seen. Just a complete joke.
@Shut Up Before I Ankle Pick You dismissing anyone who disagrees with you as a mark is a weak way to make your point, and as for Enzo there are different types of dislike for heels, most ROH fans have go away heat for Enzo rather than proper heal heat, and speaking of marks describing people as indy darlings is usually the language of WWE marks
Eli Drake. F****** fired he did not quit anyway because he kept talking anyway because he kept talking publicly about what he was going to do after his contract expired so they let his ass go sorry that I reply to your comment nothing personal
Triple H shits the bed each and every WrestleMania. I've said for years his constant use of weapons is just to hide his lack of actual talent and being entertaining. Which he isn't.
You make a good point.. 25 against Randy Orton was a snoozer, 26 against sheamus, 27 was no holds barred against taker, 28 hell in a cell, 29 no holds barred vs brock, 30 vs Daniel Bryan (good match) 31 singles vs Roman reigns, 32 singles vs sting, 33 non sanctioned vs Seth, 34 mixed tag and now this year no holds barred. I think he’s put himself against decent workers who can work the old-style wresting match
Jim you need to go back & look at John Cena’s work as the Dr. of Thuganomics. Gimmicky but the shit is actually really good and creative. If you loved his raps you’d absolutely love his raps say against The Big Show on Smackdown. They’re gold....
i don't think anyone can name one match that was great that involved HHH that had absolutely zero stipulations to it. Aside from the smackdown tag team match of Power Trip vs. Jericho/Benoit where he tore his quad the first time.
I get that Jim hates "goofy" gimmicks but The New Day are one of the best groups this side of DX. They are loved by the crowd and that should be all that matters. This isn't some Bastion Booger or Goon type deal.
Corny's becoming like that uncle who takes great pride in telling you ever fucking detail about his road trip that he took to get somewhere and what "great time" he made.
"They cheered the ultimate warrior the first 3 times they saw him until they realised he's a worthless sack of shit"...as a huge warrior fan as a kid that stung lol ...but as an adult I understand cornys frustrations with his beloved wrasslin...gimmicks like warrior were short fixes that helped destroy kayfabe ..a bit like the ufc putting attractions over title fights and actual fighters for ppv buys like the cm punk shitshow
I didn't have much of a reaction to Rey Mysterio's entrance because I was preoccupied with figuring out who the f*** he was dressed like. I recognized the outfit, but I couldn't quite place it.
Gotta disagree with Jim’s assessment on the Kofi match, if you followed the build, it felt like the huge marquee match and moment with a crowd that hot.
I really enjoy Jim Cornette. Some of our world views are not the same but we see eye to eye on "raslin."From one native son of Louisville to another, keep up your good work.
Corny nailed it exactly, it felt like a 8 hour b-show. Wasn't looking forward to it with the lineup and fell asleep during the preshow. Glad I skipped most of the bad stuff.
Stop me if I am wrong but I think what happened with Strowman -- Among other things, Strowman fucked up and made a glaring error during an argument with Brock/Heyman on the giant screen where it appeared evident that he forgot his lines and Heyman let him sink hard during the segment. After that, his Universal Title opportunity was taken away and has been a joke ever since.
Sorry corny but Kofi va brayn will be remembered for years that people will remember other than that I'm a casual fan and I agree with majority of what u says
@Shut Up Before I Ankle Pick You Right I'm black I seen this as a guy held down for years and took advantage of something he was not supposed to be in and finally made wwe believe in him. Him being friends with punk and black did help but that's not the only thing that's ever remembered about that
Oh man speaking of MJF this guy is fucking incredible. A lot of guys at the gimmick tables just act like normal people and be nice. I was at the Wrestlecon U.S. vs. The World show and dammit, he stays completely in gimmick while at the table. Very good wrestler to interact with too because he stays in gimmick.
I have to disagree with Jim here - the ONLY decent match in that awful wrestlemania was Kofi vs. Daniel. The rest was trash PARTICULARLY the throw-away Lesnar match
