Curt Henning was one of those guys that were so good and dependable that fans probably took him for granted during most of his run. Henning is definitely better than many alleged top guys they try to sell today.

Curt isn't the type of wrestler that draws much money. He's a wrestlers wrestler. Plus his carrer in the WWE had bad timing; he got the tail end of the overly muscular big guys era, and, when this period ended, Bret and Shawn were already dominating the lighter, ring technician angle.

@markbeebe125
@markbeebe125 2 года назад
@@KHLB516 the fact that bad news Brown Drew more, I think they just have had to do more with booking than anything. The WWF at the time in their cartoonish ways, created a path to the belt through the IC title that worked for who? Savage? Warrior? But a lot of times, until the steroid trial changed things..... it pigeonholed guys. Look at Honky for example, Tito Santana, Perfect. Maybe I'm not recalling things 100% clearly and if I am not, somebody correct me but your example of bad news Brown, well of course bad news Drew more because: A-- he was physically bigger and in the cartoon world back then, after Roddy and orndorf at the very beginning, pretty much everybody that he got booked against And drew well with, was 6-4, 250 or better. B-- he had not been chasing the IC belt. His path to the main event didn't go through the IC. Bad News got pushed against Hogan because they needed a big believable heel who was decent on the mic My contention is that with a number of these guys back then, that unless they were huge physically, which we know Vince was in love with, getting pushed in the IC picture kind of pigeonholed you as a guy who was an IC "type", and the perception was that big guys were believable enough to have the big belt. But that the rest of those guys, the 225 lb crowd, they weren't really contenders. Savage and warrior were big guys, massively over, who didn't even need the IC belt. But other than them, who had the IC belt between say 87 and 91, and got a serious run at the big belt? And even after that, you skip from that era all the way up into the attitude era with The Rock Stone Cold HHH Jericho and Edge. So clearly there was a shift at how they started using the IC belt during the attitude era. But prior to that for most of a decade, you had only Shawn and Bret. And that was it. I think hennig, if he had not gotten hurt, would no question, without doubt, have been able to break through the glass ceiling along with Shawn and Bret. But when he was healthy and getting a good run with it, he was just kind of in a dead era. An era where the IC guys were looked at, as just IC guys by the fans so that's how they booked it. But then the steroid thing happened and Hogan was on his way out, and then all of a sudden Bret is given an opportunity and historically that era is considered pretty much the worst in the history of the organization until current day of course. So what did they do? They tried to resurrect Bob backlund one of the most popular champions of all time. And they put the belt on some of the only big guys they had, diesel, Yoko. And it was another four years before Shawn finally broke through. Looking at that decade from about 1987 to 1997, there was only a handful of guys that had the IC strap and then got a run with the big belt. Warrior, but come on with his look, Vince was literally masturbating himself to sleep every night with thoughts of the money that he was going to make with that guy. Savage actually had it in 86 so let's not even think of him as part of this discussion. Diesel. There was almost no other big guys that got that belt, the only two that I could think of were Kerry, and God knows we understand why they wouldn't have put the big belt on him. And the same can be said for Bulldog who basically only got it because of the SummerSlam show in Wembley. Razor is the only anomaly in the whole group. A big guy during that time frame, who got the IC strap but did not get a run with a big belt but probably should have. He didn't need it as has been discussed by many people ad nauseam over the years. He was over huge. But every other big guy either had a reason that they weren't going to get the big belt like Kerry and Bulldog, or DID like Diesel and Warrior. And that everybody else who had that belt was one of those smaller guys, and I just mean smaller by Vince's standards back then. And of those guys only brett, and then eventually Shawn Michaels, would get a run with the big strap so..... I think Curt drawing poorly, was reflective of that way that the WWF was presenting the IC belt most of the time back then as well as being reflective of him having a closer to normal size. But with his skill and personality, I mean Christ Bret Hart barely developed a personality and he got the belt. And Curt hennig was every bit as good as he was in the ring and much better of a personality. So I don't think there's any reason to believe that Curt wouldn't have also been given a run with it if he had stayed healthy.

Definition of perfection in the ring and as a character. I am definite, had that back injury not been so severe he would have been WWE Champion and a main player for them. In the ring he was damn need peerless. The only people I can view as possible equals would be Bret, Angle, Kid and Eddie, and even then, he edged each of those men out in some degree in some area of pro-wrestling.

Curt Hennig (Mr. Perfect) is my all time favorite wrestler as well! Whether he's THEE best ever to others is up to their preference, but Curt had a presence that is impossible to replicate and difficult to imitate. Truly, truly an amazing talent for the business. 💗

As a kid I used to get so mad at how he never got the World Title but as I grew I realized that he didn't need it. Curt was my absolute favorite because of the mix of natural athleticism, good on the mic, could work his ass off, and despite his Mr. Perfect gimmick he didn't mind working with and taking younger talent under his wing. Class act and I wish he were still around the business.

Perfect gave a good account of himself even when he was doing things he apparently didn't enjoy: I loved his commentary. Absolutely a favourite for me as a listener. "WAAAH! HE (Giant Gonzalez) MUST BE TWENTY FEET TALL!" - still gives me cause for hilarity nearly thirty years later. And then there were his counterbalance asides in mitigation for Nailz ... It's a shame no-one thought to film Nailz'z ultimate parting shot with Perfect on commentary. Perfect was a glint of rare wit in a haystack of overblown cartoon capers.

Their response was "Of course you would choose him." Haha! I didn't care that he was the heel. He was awesome and always made me laugh. Perfectplex was cool, too. Only years after the fact do I understand enough about what he was doing to appreciate him fully. I was right along and he's still my favorite.

Curt Hennig is the goat. He had the size, agility, the strength and stamina. He was blessed with the skill and psychology. He was a main eventer in an old school era when most of his peers were still jerking the curtain because they were to small. So you can put Hennig in any era and he would get over at the top of the card.
