I just found about this tragic turn of events 2 days ago when I saw a recent interview with McMichael. Holy $ hit. He doesn't even resemble the person he was in the 80's and 90's. he is literally withering away and doesn't even have the use of his arms anymore. Terribly sad, but he is taking it in stride and appears to be at peace with what lies ahead while being tremendously appreciative of the life he has led. Very brave outlook and a stark reminder to all of us to live our lives to the fullest during the time we have. None of us knows how much time is left so it is imperative to stop procrastinating and saying "what if". Squeeze the maximum value out of every day. Your health is your most valuable asset.

When Mongo was with the Horsemen, I never felt like his clunky in-ring work really hurt him that much. He wrestled a half-brawling style that was pretty much exactly what someone might expect from a big, burly football player. And working as a heel, being the brawling bully enforcer who powers through guys when he has the advantage, but who can get out-muscled by the bigger babyfaces and out-wrestled by the smaller ones, is kind of a perfect spot to be in. Especially when he was surrounded by top-tier workers who could already bring that part of the show to tag team matches.

I'll still make my planned Debra comment but keep it respectful and positive out of respect for Mongo. Debra was and still is one of wrestling's most beautiful women and she never became Sable 2.0. She stayed in the areas where her talents were. IF she'd have made a move to a different role, it would have needed to be as a backstage interviewer, ala Terri Runnels. As long as she didn't HAVE to raise her voice much it was tolerable. From what I understand, she was naturally funny and was quick witted with the fans and the boys and was respectful with everyone, she didn't have heat with any of the Women's division that I'm able to think of.

Mongo was a special guest referee in a tag match involving Beer Money. Not sure if Cornette was still there in TNA

I liked Mongo. Not the best in the ring of course, but I never heard he was reckless or hurt anyone. He was good enough in the ring that his character filled in the rest, and I always thought he was fun to watch.

So Mongo got the Nitro gig because he was so impressive on Raw? I didn't know that. Always wondered why this random retired football star got such a high profile announcing job with no experience. It was probably Bischoff trying to keep him from the WWF. He... sucked at announcing. I've been watching the Monday Night Wars on the network and my brother kept asking "when does he become a wrestler?" He had the personality part of being a wrestler down pat. He had good promos and if you just tuned in and saw him being interviewed he wouldn't stand out as inexperienced. And a guy with a great personality who isn't a great wrestler is nothing new and lots of guys like that got over. You just need to book them so they don't have to do long technical wrestling matches. They also usually get over better than the guys who can wrestle but don't have any personality. Morph Mongo and fellow Horseman Dean Malenko into one wrestler and you'd have a superstar.

I was a young teen when Mongo got added into the Horsemen. I didn't get it. I thought he sucked. After a year or so, I started to learn about how much work he put in with The Bears. 2x Pro-Bowl. SB Champ. All around cool dude. Wish Mongo McMichael the best.

Jason Becker has beat the odds and is still living with ALS he got in his early 20’s while on tour with David Lee Roth. I am saddened by Mongo getting this terrible disease. My thoughts are with him and the family.

I had front row seats at Nitro In Cincinnati the night Rick Rude was on Raw and Nitro the same night. The reason I mention this, when Steve McMichael was wrestling that night he was pushed against the railing and he whipped back and I was a bit to close to the rail, and was lightly head butted with the back of his head (it was just luck for me that the angle he was swung into the railing was just an inch or two to the left of me, or I would have been in some serious pain

Mongo LOOKED like a star, was an ACTUAL star, and a perfect fit for the Horsemen. I don't care if he couldn't work, Ric Flair would want to hang out with someone like Mongo before he hung out with vanilla midgets like Benoit and Malenko.

The cause of ALS isn't entirely known, but it is does appear to be diagnosed more frequently among people who have participated in professions that caused them to take repeated blows to the head. Much like CTE, there does appear to be some correlation between multiple concussions and a higher risk for developing ALS. As Mongo was both a professional football player and wrestler, there is virtually no doubt that he has sustained multiple concussions in his lifetime. Though he was somewhat rough in the ring, he was very good when considering that he had been wrestling less than a year before he debuted in WCW. There are guys in AEW right now that have been wrestling for years that aren't as good as Mongo was. I am sorry that he has this battle in front of him, and I couldn't think of a worse way to go. Hopefully it will be quick, and he won't have to suffer for decades like some people have. Anyone deserves better than that. I wish him the best.

He was entertaining as hell in the ring. He was really over and had a good look. He just needed some training and polishing. He was a huge star in wrestling for awhile. Seems like a nice guy too.

Mongo was a personality that fit perfectly in to wrestling. Was he good in the ring? No. But his personality carried him over. He did respect the business which is why he wanted to be a part of it. His diagnoses is heartbreaking cause as the disease progresses he won't be able to showcase that personality anymore.
