I think what makes Cody such an easy target is not neccesarily that the ink itself is "bad", but the design and size is super jarring since he's so sparsely inked. If that logo was sitting at the top of a sleeve, significantly smaller, or placed nearly anywhere else outside of his face, nobody would give a shit. However, Brian has phrased it the best once with "He has a neck tattoo on his chest, and a chest tattoo on his neck." If both of those were swapped, this would be a non-issue for viewers, and most of this comment section would be about Hoyt's tramp stamp which has existed a lot longer and looks like he had a college girl spring break moment after a few too many cosmopolitans with his sorority sisters, and they had the idea they'd all get matching ink after flashing their boobs out the limo sunroof.

Even though his gimmick hasn't done him any favors, I think Parker Bordeaux/Harland's neck tattoos only worsened his look. Jack Gallagher's chest tattoo also derailed his gimmick...before he derailed his own career.

It's pretty interesting. When I was a teen and young man, I don't think most people had tattoos, though plenty did (I'm 40 now.) Nowadays, I feel like I'm one of the last tattoo-free people around. It's almost weird that I don't have one (but I never will. I've never liked them and never will like them.)

Tattoos on most wrestlers is just dumb. It works for Punk for example but Punk got a lot tattoos before it was cool to get them. Now you can go to a bank and the teller has a full sleeve. There's a saying "you wouldn't put a bumper sticker on a ferrari"

Next thing you knew was he was getting full sleeves. The one Tattoo I think Taker probably regrets most is the Sara one across his throat. He said it was the most painful one he had done. I like seeing people’s various pieces of art they have on their bodies but I don’t think I’d get a tattoo, maybe of my Dog but that’s it.

If Cody's tattoo was on his shoulder no one would care. The only way he could have picked a stupider place to get it would be to have it on his face. I few months back I was thinking about how almost every wrestler has tattoos these days and I was thinking of who in AEW has a gimmick where they fit. Malakai Black and Rudy Soho would have had those tattoos if you designed those characters from scratch but that's probably it. The permanent nature of tattoos creates the Cody problem where someone just shows up one day with one that does not go over well and then you're screwed. A wrestler can change his haircut or ring gear or music, have it go over like a fart in church, and quickly backpedal. You can't do that with a tattoo. Imagine if Hulk Hogan's infamous war bonnet was a tattoo instead. I guess if you're a promoter just let the talent know that if they get a tattoo that the fans don't like that you'll just halt their push based on the crowd reaction. If you destroy your own star potential then so be it.

I have several tattoos and my whole left arm sleeved with a custom tribal to just me, I was working at Radio Shack as a store manager when it was started, well my district and regional manager hated tattoos especially ones that could be seen and required us to cover them with either a long shirt or bandages. Long story short they actually got into trouble for that because someone threatened to sue over it cause it’s protected under freedom of speech and expression, we didn’t have to cover our tats anymore because it wasn’t a company policy that we agreed to before hiring which, so unless it’s in the wrestlers contract they can’t prevent them from getting tattoos.

Idk if i ever saw a truly good tattoo on anyone in the industry. It's especially tragic to see otherwise attractive women cover themselves from head to toe in ink. Personally, i feel like it sends the message that they don't have a lot of respect for their own bodies. When they get older, those tats aren't going to age well on them.
