Hogan was boo'd at the end of the Royal Rumble when the crowd cheered for Sid. That was the first time ever since Hogan was a heel a decade earlier that he'd been boo'd. My point is, he survived the booing and came back to fight Sgt. Slaughter and then Yokozuna and then off to the WCW and became HUGE again in the NWO and then again when he reappeared in early 2002 against The Rock.

@LTopomcFly WWF already turned the tide in 1998 with the war, that was off of Austin’s coattails. Austin has commented on this on his podcast, and stated that he didn't think the match would be any good, based on their styles. Warrior didn't panic either at their wrestlemania 6 encounter. he just got confused that he didn't stay down after the big splash. And it was pretty convincing that Warrior the character would be confused. Austin vs Hogan. the type of hulk up we would have had is similar to the one that Hogan had done with Million Dollar Man. He'd hulk up, but he wouldn't have stayed on his knees. He would have just bounced up on his feet and immediately puff up and point at Austin while Austin would shake his head and talk his smack while going for a punch for Hogan to counter punch and go into the next 2 punches, followed with the big boot and leg drop. And they would have gone straight to the same situation they had with Rock. Austin would have moved out of the way. Hogan's ass meets canvas. Hogan is in pain shaking while Austin continues his head swaying and talking trash as Hogan slowly gets back on his feet and turns around meeting a boot and another stunner for the 1-2-3.

Look at the ratings when Austin was out and Rock was in..Rock outdrew him. Mania 17 was in Texas imagine if it has been in Miami. If they were in Texas, then I’m sure Austin would have done it. But coming off a failed heel run, trying to establish himself as a baby face was important then. Austin against Hogan in Toronto would have been very bad for Austin. If the WM was in a Southern city, or Texas, then I think Austin would have more than likely done it, he could have had an easier time convincing Vince he should go over, although at the time I knew Hogan was losing to someone at WMX8, and he knew he’d have the fans.

I guess I couldn’t see Stone Cold falling for “Hulking Up”. The toughest SoB would just keep stomping a mud hole in you. So Austin, who’s biggest appeal being his “every man real world style” would have to weaken his character, for the Cartoony Super hero Hogan schtick. It similar to The Hurricane trying to chokeslam dudes bigger than him, but when he tried to do it with serious wrestlers, they popped him good and brought him back to reality (as part of the match). That would be the hardest sell for the match. Let alone I could see it being a stiff sell or egos getting in the way. When did Rock ever take the loss to Hogan? When would Hogan have though a loss was coming? I wonder if there was some deal with Hogan and Corney that went sideways at some point because the logic here just doesn't hold up.

He lost to Hogan as in, The rock was the Babyface and Hogan was heel, but when the match Was going on the crowd went with Hogan and Hogan started acting like the Babyface, so he switched it on the dime and the rock rolled with it and turned heel (with the crowd)
@erich2432
@erich2432 Год назад
@@ctwishkeyprn2039 Did it really matter? It never hurt the Rock a bit. Mainstream attraction matches are supposed to end like that, winner gets his moment and then the winner puts over the loser by shaking hands, hugging and sharing the the moment together etc. It doesn't need long storylines like Austin-McMahon and the Corporation, the Rock vs. McMahon-Hemsley/DX, Sting vs. NWO, Taker vs. Orton, Orton vs. McMahons-HHH, Bryan vs. The Authority etc. and revenge and favours. Even the Rock vs. Austin 2 at WM X7 was a mainstream attraction match. There was no storyline involved around the Rock. WWF did it to make money and put an end to the attitude era.

The writers knew that Toronto crowd was going to be pro Hogan. Vince saw the cheers even from prior to WMX8 for Hogan; that's why he wanted to turn Hogan face. I am just not in the crowd that believes Austin would have been booed in Toronto against Hogan. I think it would be Pro Hogan, without question, but Austin would have had his fair share of pops and cheers.

@@captainjaber5610 strange thing is though... Hogan knew it was his crowd early but STILL played the heel. It wasn't until the end that he started doing 'classic Hulk' nostalgia moves (at Rocks request) that really jacked up the crowd. I disagree. Also a Canadian. We don't really boo Hogan here. Been watching since the early eighties. Hogan and the Harts are pretty much royalty here. @@ferox965 Austin wasn't in his prime in 1997, The fan response for Austin at No Way Out 2003(Montreal erupted for Steve that night) was completely different than the Canadian Stampede one. They still cheered him at Canadian Stampede too; not every star in the world, including Hogan, will get every single fan in the arena cheering for him, there will always be detractors. And he did get popped over Owen at Canadian Stampede, but obviously he got booed because there were Owen fans. Rock vs. Hogan was the better play at the time. Just my opinion, but I don't think Austin ever quite got back all of his cachet after he came back from his neck injury in 2000. Rock (among others) had had too much time to establish himself as the top guy at that point.
