Hearing Corny and Brian play Guess The Program has always been a good way of learning old-school wrestling shows. Any time I get to hear an interesting bout and able to find it on youtube somehow makes me appreciate the older generation of wrestling.
I wonder if Jim's ever heard of Fred VanNorstrand, AKA Numa The Black Lion? He was my Great Grandfather who competed from the 1890s to 1950 I believe 🤔. I've got a few pictures of him as World Champion.
You beat me to it. She was better known by her maiden name Babe Didrikson. She won two gold medals in track and field at the 1932 Summer Olympics, before turning to professional golf and winning 10 LPGA major championships. She was an excellent seamstress and singer and harmonica player recording several songs for Mercury Records. She is still recognized as the world record holder for the farthest baseball throw by a woman. She died of cancer at 45.
@@jethro1963 I think she started golf as a hobby and got so good she turned pro. If I remember a Paul Harvey Rest of the Story right, he told how a small women's college dominated a sports event over a much larger one. It turned out, she was pretty much their entire team. She won first in about every event and was in about every event. Her mother I think won a Olympic metal in skating. There's a part in the movie that goes over that at her mother's funeral.
@@thomasswafford250 I think you mean Babe was the entire team in an AAU competition where she represented her company. She didn't go to college, in fact she failed Grade 8 and didn't graduate high school. She was a self made woman and natural promoter. Pro competition was different back then and she left it to regain her amateur status where she could compete in the most prestigious events. Later she helped found the LPGA. Her mother was Hannah Marie Olson, an accomplished skater and skier in Norway.
The only thing that would make a smart fan doubt Yamamoto getting a title shot would be his height. In every category except the one he couldn't help he could have been a believable champion.
