Jim Cornette Reviews AEW Dynamite (July 13, 2022) 

I wrestled in the basement with my cousins as a kid, and we had a hard rule: No kicking out of finishers. If you can hit your finisher, you win. The only exceptions were if the winning person picked the losing person up without pinning them, or if the pin was broken up (like in a tag team match). At 12 we knew to protect the finishers. Why don't these guys?

Bret Hart turned down a cowboy gimmick because he said that where he's from, if you say you're a cowboy, you legit are. You live the cowboy/ranching life and Bret wasn't a cowboy in real life and wasn't comfortable playing the part.

Wardlow has been a joke since MJF stopped helping him, Tony needs to hire a booker and stop having press scrums

I heard one of their fans saying that the Wardlow / Cassidy match was okay and didn't hurt Wardlow because Orange Cassidy has been booked "strong" for a long time. They ignore the fact that he is much smaller than Wardlow and his gimmick is that he doesn't care and doesn't try. None of that matters because, to their fans, ANYONE can be competitive with ANYONE. If you're booked "strong" and you're 100 pounds you can kick the shit out of a guy that's 500 pounds. It's not wrestling logic - it's video game logic.

Triple H would love to have a guy like Wardlow on his roster.

After Triple H's SummerSlam last night, WWE might yet again be the go to destination. With the talent AEW has, it's been proven HHH has booked the former WWE guys better and the wrestlers adore him. IMO, AEW might be in trouble

Honestly AEW's booking is all over the place. A lot of their matches are very random. Like.....why did Rush get a title shot? Don't get me wrong, he's definitely talented, but as far as booking goes it made absolutely no sense. There is very little build to a lot of title matches....they just seem to throw them together on a whim. As for Orange Cassidy....his move set is nothing out of the ordinary than guys his size have been doing for the last 30+ years. I don't get why people bust a nut over the fact he keeps his hands in his pockets.....its very odd.

WWE already made the mistake of heels breaking tables when the fans cheered Ryback putting Kofi Kingston through them, with Vince McMahon berating the fans for it.

Around the 12 minute mark: that's me 100%. I'm tired and disinterested in matches happening just to happen and have no rhyme or reason as to the progression of the match. I'm definitely conditioned by growing up on WWE and good era TNA, but I need matches to mean something and stories to progress through matches. I don't care that wardlow and Cassidy wrestled. I want wardlow to have a reason to beat the shit out of Cassidy if we're pairing these two babyfaces up

I disagree that the pudding gang doesn't deserve the TV time, they're hardly a fixture on dynamite. And Pockets has proven to be a high mid-carder, I don't think he should have fought Wardlow however unless squashed.

AEW has so many wrestlers that have got over and their own, yet Jim hates them all. The crowd has big reactions to all the wrestlers Jim doesn't like. The week that just past featured 7 young talents they are making into new stars. Why does Jim bother watching? He is wasting everyone's times with these ridiculous takes.

All things considered, and all respect to Jim...am I the only one who enjoyed the Pockets/Wardlow match? I thought it was fun.

There's honestly nothing wrong with the "trampoline" wrestling, if you can accept it for what it is, which is a parody of pro wrestling. It's actually entertaining if you can enjoy it for the comedy show that it is. The main issue is judging something that CLEARLY isn't pro wrestling, based on the rules established for pro wrestling. Not to mention, the people who do the "indie" type of wrestling either have no idea/don't care about the actual history of pro wrestling and it's purpose.

Excalibur actually compared Chuck Taylor to Bobby Eaton on Friday's Rampage. WTF...Taylor/Beretta were "punching" Singh with all the vigor of a 95 yr. old grandma (no offense to the grandma) during the comment. I was shocked at the disrespect given to Eaton with that comment.

It’s crazy because right after a Dynamite episode, I see some AEW fans say, “this was by far the best AEW episode of Dynamite this year” wtf were you watching. It’s almost like some people like AEW just to say they like it, not because it’s actually good

What in the world has Jim seen on WWE TV that makes him think the WWE would have a good plan for Wardlow??? Has he not seen the whole we pull you up from NXT, push you, then know fuck sakes what to do with you after that so we release you act? I get his criticism of different aspects of AEW but come on, Wardlow would be booked better in Corgan's NWA than WWE, notwithstanding Triple H's involvement now. We will have to see if he can make the major brands of WWE as exciting as he made NXT. We also have to see if this "team" he speaks of is capable of presenting something better than recent years. I will say this for "pockets", I have seen him at three shows and the crowd was hot for him every single time. Jim might not get that or understand him, but it just might be the majority of fans, or at least AEW fans, don't care about the silliness he brings in....if it sells tickets, I am not sure how you tell the fans they are wrong whether one agrees with it or not....Jim said a few weeks ago I want to see them sell tickets in Savannah, and they did....so while AEWs vision might not fit what he believes wrestling is supposed to be, it may for the people who actually tune in and pay for tickets and that matters.

The only reason I torture myself every week and watch this horrible horrible show is because this podcast makes it worth while
