Jim Cornette Reviews Gunther vs. Chad Gable on WWE Raw 

I loved when the crowd started chanting "Gable! Gable!" instead of something like "This is awesome" or whatever. People are honestly feeling this rivalry.

Gunther is the kind of wrestler who could thrive during any era. That's a rare quality.

Gunther absolutely deserved to break Honky Tonk Man's record. His IC title reign has been a joy to watch.

Gable gives kurt Angle vibes, Angle always did alot of comedy stuff but when it was needed of him to look serious and be a professional he always step it up a notch.

Gunther has restored the prestige of the IC title. He deserves the honor of being the longest IC champion in history.

This match was so cool that the WWE uploaded it on their RU-vid channel 24 hours later. That's how good it was. It's an instant 5 star match with everything that went on. Hell Günther made Chad Gable's kids cry, that right there is story telling.

I know Bradshaw can be a complete putz but I always loved that clothesline from hell. It always looked like JBL was looking to take somebody's head off

Gunther is a proper wrestler. Most wrestlers today are trampoline circus deathmatch stuntmen.

This match was incredible. Reminds me of watching Bret Hart matches as a kid. Not only did everything look amazing, it all made sense and told a story. I completely forgot I was watching 'sports entertainment' and just got invested in it.

Since his wwe debut I truly believe Gunther has been the greatest wrestler in the world. I can understand many may disagree, but I see him as a true "Professional Wrestler" rather than a sports entertainer.

After the match, when Gable got to his knees, Gunther just stood and stared at him for awhile, almost like a show of respect because he couldn't believe Gable made him work that hard.

He's just captivating to watch because he can finish you off with ANYTHING. Sleepers, Lariats, Splashes, Powerbomb, Emerald Flowsions, Chops, etc

If Gunther ever put a guy like Kommander, over, Cornette would be more depressed than a parent in an 80’s anti-drug commercial “I LEARNED HOW TO FLIP FROM YOU DAD!”

People here aren't giving Chad some credit. He deserves it as much as Gunther in that match

I could see Gunther as a bad guy in a Bond style movie.

I love hearing Cornette call Gunther matches. His awe at a real wrestler doing actual wrestling lol, SUCCESSFULLY being pushed as a real threat on TV. I love to hear it

This match was fucking awesome when was the last time the IC Title main evented Raw it's been forever this was great glad Jim is talking about this they should've made this match commercial free.

Gunther & Gable were made for each other. They compliment each other quite well

Gunther is that old throwback to the 80s era. I love him. Gable is that old throwback to the 90s era. I love him. Seriously... seeing them together is like watching the best of the Golden Era vs the best of the Attitude Era. A strong suplex big man shooter vs a modern day technician. Thats what every 40+ year old remembers. Those were our classics. It still works today & it will always work. Does speed or power win? You don't need flips. Angle vs Stone Cold would be a great example of a similar match or Angle vs Samoa Joe. Even older you could say Bret vs Bulldog. Flair vs Race. HBK vs Razor Ramon. Macho Man vs Warrior which was Warrior's best match. I wish every match was booked that way or the other way which is same vs same. Technical master vs technical master, or giant vs giant, or power vs power. Power vs giant works occasionally too. (Brock vs Big Show, Hogan vs Andre). But today we have too many flippers vs flippers. Medium dude vs Xtra Medium dude. It doesn't work. Why cant anyone understand that?!

Love how gunther put over gable speed immediately when the match started with the chop to the corner of the turnbuckle.

Gunther is legit. He not only makes his opponents look good but he also shows how dominant he can be. Sells amazing, he's believable. He has definitely got to be in a main event match for Mania, future world champ easily. WWE on fire

Chad Gable is the second coming of Percules himself. Perc Angle. These two have very similar chemistry and match quality to that of Benoit/Angle. Very intense, technical matches. Nothing short of spectacular.

If Gable wins the title from Gunther now that Gunther broke the record,it needs to be on PPV & possibly in the main event,these guys deserve it.

Still waiting for all the smarky smarks that said Vince would ruin 'Walter' on the main roster. Then they say 'but Triple H is the one in control of creative'. I'm sorry but Gunther has made a name for himself without Vince or Triple H. The guy took advice lost weight, changed his gimmick name and is flourishing unlike Keith Lee who wouldn't take advice and ran out of the company. Gunther is a throwback to proper wrestling.. a breath of fresh air compared to the flippy floppy one thousand false finish generation of wrestlers.

This match was probably the closest we would get to Vader vs Angle.

Btw this was a great small storyline with gable and gunther refreshing to see and help made this 11 min match a classic

The comedy and the silliness is what got Gable over with the crowd, got them invested and then allowed him to pivot into what he is now. So as much as we might not like it, but that formula has paid big dividends in this case

With the exception of the mass amounts of commercials, this was a five star match. Gunther is a breath of fresh air. It's almost like, oh my God, that guy is Wrestling!!!??

Man, this match was fantastic. This is the best the IC Title has looked in a long time. I wasn't sure how I felt at first having 2 record breaking heel Title runs going at the same time, but Gunther has sold it for me. Lastly Chad Gable is fantastic and I really do like him as a baby face. I think he is just trying to hard to be like Kurt Angle when he was doing goofy promos and what not.

Gunther did the trio of finishers to beat Gable, it looked devastating, he didn't need to flip around.

Jordan and Gable were a serious team that captured my attention. Chad has potential, and even though I shouldn't have, I loved how sad the family looked when their hero lost. It's almost like they weren't in on the act? Why didn't Chad's wife drive a mini van to the ring? This is why WWE is leaps and bounds ahead of AEW.

Chad and Gunther showed what a real, great, wrestling match is in 2023. Just perfect. No flippy floppy non-sense. We need Gunther vs lesnar at wrestlemania 40. It's time for lesnar to take the L to Gunther. He's ready

The Gable Family reaction was great. Wonder if he built them up by telling them all week he was going to win the belt while knowing he would lose. _"Daddies going to win the belt tonight and we're all going to Disneyland tomorrow! Here, put on my shirt because we're going to celebrate in the ring after I win"_

the most important thing Gunther has improved upon is mic skills. You really can't be a star nowadays and not know how too talk. He'll never cut amazing promos or have the crowd invested in his every word but he can get his point across

Only a matter of time before Bryan Alvarez tells Gunther to change his style because it's not working.

I love that Gunther takes a beating as well. He doesn’t just run over people, he has real knock down, drag out matches and sells a difficult opponent.

Loved this match and enjoyed their whole series & feud so far. Been a Gunther fan since his Walter days. Still remember the Ilya Dragunov matches which were incredible. He's amazing in every way and he's made the IC title mean something again.

I could be wrong but I think i saw a promo from gable where he said he was done with the shoosh and thank you and NOT done with Gunther. So maybe they are dropping the comedy and going to take him more serious

This match should have been on Payback, that being said this was one of the best main events RAW has had in a long time, it was also the match of the week. Which is why Meltzer had to rate it lower than most of ALL OUT and ALL IN. Gunther is the best wrestler in the ring right now. He is a wrestler and not a "sports entertainment" the mat is sacred to him as is the IC Title. He proves why he deserved the longest-reigning IC champion of all time. Chad Gable also proved he can hold his own when he is serious. There was so much greatness in this match. Plus that ending sequence and Gable's daughter crying as Gunther retained. Chef's kiss.

This match was so anticipated and well received that they dropped the whole thing on RU-vid within a few days. My mother doesn't really understand why I like wrestling but I showed her this and I think she started to get it. The spot on the ropes got a big reaction from her. Gunther really is one of the best.

I can't believe they had that match on free TV. That was one of the best matches I've seen in a long time. Gunther plays the big man well. How is he going to fare though, when he is the smaller guy? Like in a match against Reigns or Lesnar? Wrestling from underneath is a completely different beast.

Btw this was a great ending with gable kids crying and gunther looking at gable at the end of the show

I still hate the fact that he's "Gunther", but I'm glad that he's being used in a way that shows how much trust they have in him. He's carrying himself like a true champ and a "wrestlers' wrestler", and I do hope we get to see Brock work with him before Brock is ready to hang up his cowboy hat for good.

Just watched this one and I have to say it felt like the wrestling I used to enjoy. Good technical stuff, nice reversals, the tide went back and forth, great selling, tasteful number of chop spots, even a convincing way to get 3 moves at the end without Gable no selling two of them. I rarely indulge in modern matches beyond a few minutes before turning them off in disgust, but this one had me to the end. A rivalry between these two might be fun.

i know Gable does the rolling german suplex slow for the opponent to do a reaction but i would love to see him do it faster with more impact

I was at this RAW. The crowd was hot for this match. They did a great job of building it up over the course of the show. After the match, once the cameras were off, Cody came out for a dark match and talked to the crowd and played up Gable and his kids as friends. If they could get Otis to trim down or turn the fat into muscle, they could be American Alpha 2.0

Gunther and Gable owned the match, but Gable's daughter sealed it in a historical sense. They'll be showing that clip for years.
