Meltzer is a hypocrite and has let his ego go to his head (built up by years of people -- like Jim Cornette -- validating his opinions). I hate to see two friends at odds like this but it was inevitable. Corny hated a lot of the cartoonish, over-the-top pro-wrestling not just in WWE but also in TNA, Lucha Underground, ECW, and anywhere he finds it. This has led to Cornette sperging out on Vince Russo and Paul Heyman in addition to Vince McMahon. But Meltzer claims to like the sports-based presentation and he's been boosting this for years (ROH, TNA) but when it comes to AEW, Meltzer is blinded by his friendships with Omega and the Bucks.

I feared Cornette will never get himself into another feud since he's semi-retired. Thank God Jim will never change

Never been a fan of Meltzer's. I could always tell while reading his newsletter that he had a bias against certain wrestlers, some of whom were my favorites.

Remembering facts and figures is a great thing, but a true mind at work is one that can contextualise the information accurately.

I appreciate Dave as a historian but holy shit the guy couldn't string together two coherent sentences if his life depended on it. His writing ability never went beyond that of a first year college student and verbally homeboy goes through more uh, um, ah, um , ya know, bumps than anyone I've EVER heard in my life. Only person I know who can take 10 minutes to answer a 20 second question.

Dave lowkey is part of the reason the business is ruined. The old guard knew better than to listen to him long term. But all the younger now middle aged "performers" all revere him just because he has been around. He made the moves in the ring more important than the psychology of the match. Then him and Bryan sit around whining that it isn't like the old school. Now no one cares if an angle is hot or not. Just if the heel hit a 450 splash. Silly crap. When we were kids, we didn't care of macho man and whoever had a 5 star match. We cared that macho man won or lost. End of story.

I dont know what people see in Omega. I watched 2 of those Omega/Okada matches and in all honesty they put me to sleep. There some things I like about AEW but there are also some things I dont care for either. Last few weeks I have just watched the highlights. Would much rather watch MLW or NWA Power.

I think guys like the Bucks need wrestling to be as close to non-realistic as possible because they wouldn't make it in realistic wresting. They'd constantly get squashed for being under 200 pounds.

I used to think Jim was wrong about AEW. I thought AEW was gonna hit it out of the park, but nope... Turns out Jim was right all along. AEW is blowing it. Their show is pretty weak and Jim is 100% dead on the money about Dave. EVERYTHING he's saying about him is so spot on. Eeeeeeverything.

Anytime you see Meltzer pushes the word "psychology" in regards to his AEW/Japan/PWG/Indy dorks, it's a response to the obvious ridicule of the actual wrestling fanbase pointing out the garbage contrived gymnastics routines of 140 pounds geeks they call matches. Ignore the guy, I can't call him out of touch as he was never in touch.

Regardless of moves and even size, do any of these dudes look like they can kick ass? My biggest issue with AEW is that the guys don’t look like they can punch through a wet paper bag with scissors in their hands.

Cornette is on point here. It’s sad what this business has become. They make a mockery of what so many MEN have spent decades building - What a shame.

I agree with Cornette. Dave is finally validated by a large contingent of wrestlers.. but it's from a bunch of dweebs (little harsh.. but sorry). It does make sense with his continues love for AEW as he apparently has a move named after him; which naturally you're going to think is cool (it should be for a fan) and have some bias.. but it's embarrassing. The majority of the goofs in the ring now are the "smart" fans who think they know everything since they followed people like Dave and people of his ilk.. but the problem is Dave has no idea what he is talking about when it comes to pro-wrestling. The whole point is to MAKE MONEY, not have great matches. Also, the biggest marks are the fans who think they know exactly what is going on.. I wish the guys now would use that to their advantage and manipulate them (I'm not saying this is easy). I've only seen a couple of Omega matches and some of the other guys in AEW.. and I just don't get it. They are hard workers, but instead of focusing so much time on moves, I wish they'd focus on their gimmick. It is spot matches by numbers and not simulated combat where you think people are beating the shit out of each other. And you can you can tell some of those guys really have never been in a real fight in their entire life.

Kenny Omega's 4D Ring Psychology is too advanced for mere mortals to comprehend. Or maybe Okada v. Omega had more to do with Okada than Omega.

Kenny O is how even mediocre talent can have huge egos. There is always a Meltzer who kisses up to them.

If anyone is lost on who Eddy Mansfield is, he was a wrestler way back when who appeared on ABC's 20/20 and exposed the wrestling business in an interview. He said, "When I did that [the interview] I did it for all the young guys out there night after night busting their butts who were being taken advantage of by some of the promoters. Do you think wrestling stars of today would be making the huge dollars they are if I had not stepped up and said what I said? I think not." He spoke about how the business works and the practices of certain promoters. He grandstanded later about how much his interview "improved" the business and takes credit for everything that happened after.

Wrestling was growing during all of those previous “eras of change”. Today, less people watch wrestling than ever before. WWE can’t draw a profit from their house shows. Everything points to it going further downward. That’s the difference. I’m certain Dave is smart enough to know the difference between what’s happening now, and The Rock N Roll Express And Shawn Michaels...yet he keeps throwing out that comparison to get under Cornettes skin.

I never hear Cornette give New Japan their due respect. I started watching pro wrestling again in 2014 because of NJPW. Haku/Meng has said it himself, New Japan has the best training dojo in pro wrestling. It should be an honor to work for New Japan, AJPW, & NOAH. Their lineage puts them higher than WWE in my opinion. I agree with most of what Cornette has said. Meltzer is insane, Omega was better in NJPW, the Bucks suck, NXT is better than AEW, but New Japan is the best pro wrestling promotion in the world.

Okay, we get it, Kenny Omega is talented. But what about his booking at AEW, Dave?

Meltzer doesn't bash AEW because he is friends with those guys. It's easier to be honest about a stranger than someone you are friends with.
