Mike wanted him to keep doing it, but Terry said, if I'm not able to do the show as I normally would because of health reasons, then I don't wanna do it. They should have done a more exhaustive search after Terry had his heart attack and found a better more entertaining host, because Rico certainly isn't entertaining at all.
@@mr.hulotsholiday agreed. The show was actually still great too with just Mike solo and Sully doing the production after Terry left. Those shows helped get me through those first few really difficult months at the beginning of covid. It was like my day started every day at 2. I'm sure Rico is a great person, but he's just not a good fit for the job
I can tell you as an Os fan the scuttlebutt here is that Skubal is the one guy in baseball we would trade Holliday for. I would be shocked if you got Mayo too. But i could absolutely see Holliday, Norby, Cowser or one of our top pitching prospects Povich, McDermott or S Johnson

Very reminiscent of M Mussina here in Baltimore in 99 and 2000 before he left to NY for nothing. If im Det i would absolutely take Holliday Cowser Norby Stowers for Skubal and Lange. 4 young bats to build around for an organization thats shown an ability to find and develop pitching

It's a no brainer. Yes Skubal is great and is the ace, but getting at LEAST 1 viable all star caliber starter (the odds are either Holliday or Mayo will be, worst case they are just starting caliber), on top of the extra piece you get with those 2, is more beneficial for this team.
While I mostly agree with what you said, no prospect is all star caliber until he proves at least a little ability in the majors. Everyone thought Jo Adell, and our own Spencer Torkelson were future all-stars. Now, not so much.
So a couple of prospects that were in a ball last year and are highly valued by baseball scouts for a proven ace that's under team control for 2 years. You have to ask yourself if skubal is the face of the organization. Skubal maybe the tigers ace for the next decade and the prospects might start. It's interesting to be excited for this trade. I would rather they just sign a 3rd baseman or a first baseman in the off season
The way that turns into a longer rebuild is if none of the prospects we get pan out at the MLB level. I'm tired of people acting as if no matter who we get from Baltimore, they're guaranteed to be MLB stars. Happy that Mike and Stoney actually acknowledged that.
I’d take the deal a million percent for Holliday and Mayo. Don’t even care who else gets attached with the deal. This would move the rebuild up 3-4 years
Honestly, I just don't value starting pitching all that much nowadays, because even elite starters rarely make it very late into games. I don't care how elite they are, if they're only giving you an average of under 6 innings every five days, I just don't see a huge amount of value in that. If someone is willing to trade us a generational position talent in Jackson Holliday, AND additional elite positional talent that can start on this team right away, I just don't see how you pass that up. Hell, even if I thought they would re-sign Skubal I'd be in favor of that trade. But I swear, if they part with Skubal for a lesser package (or god forbid, use a deal to unload Baez's contract, which LA media believes can help the Dodgers land him) then I'm completely checking out until Chris Illitch sells the team.
I was totally against this a few months ago but the Tigers have worn me down by their inability to put a lineup together. We have trouble developing position prospects, we do fairly well developing pitching prospects, so the deal makes sense. In a perfect world we wouldn't dream of trading a young superstar pitcher like Skubal, but this isn't a perfect world and the Tigers are clearly not a perfect organization.
If it’s Holliday, Mayo and one other top 10 prospect in the O’s system then Subal is an Oriole. Tigers fans who oppose trading Skubal are the same ones who praise the Lions for trading Stafford.
Well, trading Stafford for our current starting QB, and two 1st round draft picks is what turn the franchise around. Those extra 1st rounders were the key. So if that was meant as criticism, I think you missed the boat.
The key is the top three, then it drops a good bit, then a couple likely major leaguers, after about 6 or 7, they really aren’t any better than anyone else. They are a top minor league system, but they are very top heavy. But those top three rank above any system.
Detroit can’t. Do you really think they are going to give out a 200 to 225 million five year contract? Skubal’s agent is Scott Boros, and he always sends his clients to the highest bidder.

It’s not even his report, it’s some other reporter telling him this. Which feels like the sports media equivalent of “I heard from a guy, who knows a guy, who knows that girl’s cousin, and they said she’s totally into you dude!” That said, it’s also been reported by some legit baseball writers since then, so I’ll believe it this time.
Think of it this way, skubal gets you I don't know, somewhere between 18 and 20 wins a year if you keep him. If you lose skubal, your win total will also be 18 wins less, unless you can find someone to replace that win total in your farm system which is asking a lot.
Add Carson Kelly with Skubal (and perhaps another prospect- Rainer?) and think O's would like that since McCann isn't hitting that well. Harris needs to do this to get major League ready SS and 3rd base man. He does this and I would have some respect for him. It's a NO BRAINER. I understand Skubal is a great pitcher, just like Matt Stafford is above average QB. Lions would not be a SB contender without that trade.
Once Detroit fans decide they like a guy they lionize and overvalue them. Skubal isn’t a Detroit icon. He’s a good arm who can accelerate this team’s rebuild faster with his trade value than with his arm. Deal him.

Skubal is the only pitcher that is an ace, that the tigers have on the team that they have a chance to keep for a long time. If skubal was traded today, who replaces him, my best guess would be Jackson jobe, but he's not what I'd refer to as an ace pitcher. Of the pitchers in the farm system, including those just drafted, skubal is the only one right now that I'd call an ace. Now, if we were talking about trading skubal and replacing him with someone else via a trade, like Nathan eovaldi, I could probably get behind that.
@stevenherrmann1619 and I get that. But, years ago, when I listened to 97.1 on a consistent basis, Mike and Terry were magic together, absolutely magic, and I would be excited for the show to start, I use to listen to it at work, and I would have a lot of fun listening and laughing, it helped get me through the day. The pairing of Mike and Rico isn't even close to being entertaining, at least not on Rico's end. If they were to pair Mike Valenti and Mike stone, then I would definitely consider listening again on a more regular basis, these two are definitely fun to listen to.

And when has it worked out in tigers history when they've traded away an ace? When have they ever gotten an equitable return out of it? Never, including the time when they traded away a young pitcher named John smoltz and he became a hall of fame starter and closer. Learn from the mistakes of the past so you don't repeat them. Trading skubal, is doubling down on every bad trade the tigers have ever made. The tigers will regret it if the trade him, I don't really care what prospects they get in return.

If you still feel that way, then I applaud you for your stance. Do you really think the Tigers are winning the World Series in the next two years, if so, I applaud you for your positive fandom.
