It's strange, because my favorite Hendrix tone is on the BOG album. But this red fuzz face doesn't sound like it. Too dark and muddy, at least for me. If I had to choose between these too, I'd pick the blue one! Thanks!
Correction, Jimmy Cage: Red germanium: Experienced and Axis Blue silicon: Ladyland and Woodstock Band of Gypsies: Machine Gun and everything with the BOG. peace.
I have both of these (in full size) and I love them both the same. With the blue one I like that there's a bit more control with guitar's volume knob. With the BOG model,it starts to get dirty just after 3 on my guitars volume but I love how it really bites and I can use my wah in front of it with no oscillation. Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with either of these.
I just bought the red one. I honestly like it a more than the blue one. Either that or I'm just in denial.................... but aside from that, there's a surplus of the blue ones and only a limited number of the red ones. So about 50 years from now (by the way I'm only 13 years old) one of those red ones will probably be worth quite a bit more than the blue ones.
@Andy Boldry lol happy to report I still have mine. Bought it new for $150 from Sweetwater. Also got one of the copper Bonamassa fuzz faces for $250 on reverb about a year ago. I’m now 18 and they’re staying with me for a looong time. Keep yours!!
Exactly the video I needed as I am considering getting of of those! Never been a huge fan of the BOG sound over the studio records sound, but maybe the tone of red one is growing a little bit more on me. But maybe need them both as you say at the end!
Great demo man! I was hoping to like BOG fuzz but sounds a bit muddy and "out of control".. the regular fuzz face has this really nice clarity. Is this how they sound to you?
I wont say who you are Gearmanndude , because i use to know you very well you worked at a Guitar Store in Louisville, KY. Keep up the cool videos dude. Later!
To my ancient ears the Band of Gypsys unit seems to have a little less high-end but also a bit ballsier in the upper mid-range. I'm not sure if these are true bypass so that could be a consequence of cabling order, but the Band of Gypsies unit still seems to be ballsier and possibly more "Hendrixy". Anyway, with a gun to my head I'd take the BOG unit.
Correction, Jimmy Cage: Red Germanium - Are you experienced and Axis Blue Silicon - Woodstock and Electric Ladyland Band of Gypsies - Machine Gun and everything w the Band of Gypsies.
hey do you think the new one hand of gypsies has different tone little less so it would mix better with Octavia and vibe pedals?? I have heard that Dunlap as some freq response issues when you mix the fuzz with Octavia some say they sound bad together or don't always mix well .maybe a comparison used with Octavia thanks
I have an original late 80s Dallas-Arbiter Fuzz Face. These two pedals, unfortunately, sound nothing like the real thing. They just don't make fuzz pedals like they used to.
+Edward Daniell I use guitar overdrive pedals on my bass all the time. They sound great. In fact, I use all effects on my bass and it sounds awesome. I like chorus, delay and reverb on my bass. For distortion I run the whole gamut; Tubescreamer, MXR Dist + , BD-2 Blues Driver, OD-2, OD-1, DS-1, Guvnor, Rat, Big Muff, Fuzz Face, etc. Even a Metal Zone. I have no idea why they make separate bass pedals.
If you demo these pedals without showing how they react to the change in volume of the guitar, without showing the glassy, I think you understand very little about fuzz, my friend!
