My absolute favorite thing about these books is that they aren't illustrated versions of the Potter MOVIES. As in, the illustrations don't look exactly like the movie sets. The paintings of the characters don't look like the actors who played them. These are very much illustrations of the BOOKS, and I love that.

The only thing I expected to be different was the uniforms. In the books, robes are like a nightgown that you slip over your head; there's no white shirt, tie, or pants. I was kind of hoping to see that interpretation.

A trick: you can watch movies at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching all kinds of movies lately.

That is exactly why I love these illustrated books by Jim Kay because they don't remind me of the films. And because of this I have just started to read the hp books for the first time (illustrated versions Jim Kay). I have seen all the films but never was interested in reading the books after seeing the films as they just reminded me of the films to much. But now with Jim Kay illustrating the books it gives a whole new standalone to the books which completely separates the books from the films visually.

When Mr. Kay brought out several sheets of concept art, as an amateur artist, tears filled my eyes. I had to pause and gaze at each masterpiece. To Bloomsbury Publishing, thank you so much for this lovely video.

Such beautiful work. It belongs in a museum. Sculptor, illustrator and painter. What can't Mr. Kay do? I just found this. I read the series when it first came out and did not know there was an illustrated version until I watched the Sorcerer's/ Philosopher's Stone read on Wizarding World. Such beautiful illustrations. The first thing I thought when I saw the Diagon Alley illustration was that it would make a great puzzle!

the work is stunning. I was so impressed that Jim Kay's imagination could find independent images for the story. My favourite is the portrait of Harry, the sadness. And I love the image of Dumbledore and Harry talking about the Mirror of Erised.

I loved the illustrated Philosophers stone even after I've read the novel quite a lot. It made it feel fresh again. Not saying that it isn't always. But one question, what would be the next release date?

I love the train design! A different approach rather than looking similar to regular train or the one on the films. Fantastic work on the Spiders. Your workd are PHENOMENAL! It amazes most that you do it on paper which is harder or should I say more challenging. And even make model that adds to the challenge but we're as he said very helpful. I could just imagine how JK Rowling excitement and amazement about thoe when finally presented to her.

Just heard Jim Kay has stepped down from Harry Potter book 6 and 7. But it’s all right, he had to put his health first. Just like with Chris Columbus on stepping away from the world of Harry Potter. I wish I were able to write him a fan letter. I can’t find any PO box and I’m trying to get him to come to my college. We have a once a year special where we were funded to have a famous artist come and spend the week with us. Be a dream for him to come!

Order of the phoenix comes out next year in 2022 (there was some delayed so he couldn't release it this year). Then he only has 2 more books in the series to illustrate which are half blood prince (book 6), and then the final book Deathly Hallows (book 7) so his almost there in completing the series.

I'm a bit stumped by the appearance of a flying pig though, for example on the Hogwarts Express. How did that get there? With palm trees?

I'm guessing you mean the winged boar - the books mention statues of winged boars at the entrance gates to Hogwarts. It looks like he's taken from that and made the winged boar a symbol of Hogwarts. Not sure about the palm trees though lol
