There are many degrees of allergy & being around them short-term is FAR different than living with them; many people w/ allergies can be around them short-term w/ nothing more than some sniffles/ congestion/ watery eyes (& often that can be alleviated w/ medication). I’m mildly allergic & have two cats w/ little to no issue; I have other more severe allergies that require me to take meds & w/ them on board my cats don’t bother me at all. Some people w/ even fairly severe allergies are fine w/ medication, whereas for some medication does little to help symptoms. Also, while it’s not something that’s easy to predict or plan for, different cats produce differing amounts of allergen (dander) so people can indeed be “more allergic” to some cats than to others. I’ve definitely noticed this myself as i was very allergic to a family member’s cat despite others bothering me only minimally. All of which is to say it’s not a black or white issue but much more nuanced and on a spectrum of sorts...in more ways than one.

I have 3 strays (2, 4 and 6 years old) we got from different places and at different times. The younger ones love each other; the oldest (also the last one we got) hates and is hated by the others XD

My dogs were like that. Leo (the oldest) honestly acted like "why" when we got Serena. He truly hated her for a long time. They eventually became friends but never family. RIP Leo
I have 2 cats, 10 sheep, a lamb and 6 chickens... they all get along!!! My cats hug each other and sleep together... you need to have them together when they are very young still...
