Allen Ross the filmmaker lived right across the street when Jim’s was at Halsted and Maxwell. I remember going there around 2am with my cousin and friend one cold winter night. For some reason we didn’t get any napkins just wax paper. There was also a rumor that the sauteed onions were actually shredded cabbage. It seemed a lot more dangerous back in the day. Homeless men in wheelchairs roamed around and fires were lit in metal barrels to stay warm.
When I lived in Chicago, this place was a late night must have. Granted, I was in my 20's and out at the bars. Still better than Denny's, and I simply do not understand what a 5 hour window would curb crimewise if Jim's has security. 🤦♂️ I miss the food, but I'm glad I don't live there anymore.
is on campus at this point and is UIC that made them and other places as well. Is more to day with making that area around campus safe as well, if you know the area then you know the hood around UIC has gotten run down in the last 20 years.
@@randyreynolds4252 Yes, we all know the area has become overrun with criminal activity. It saddens me to no end, that my city, which was a beacon of the midwest, has turned into a kindergarten shooting range. Too many children being murdered by thugs. It has to stop... absolutely, disgusting.
@@randyreynolds4252 Bullshit, I went to UIC 85-87, nothing on Maxwell or Halsted but Jim's. It's become gentrified and UIC doesn't like the late night crowd it attracts. It's a hell of a lot safer now than when I was there. Damn, my car broke down on Roosevelt Road just off Halsted and a Chicago cop stopped, asked me what I was doing there and then told me this wasn't a good neighborhood for me. Hell, I knew that. The old Taylor street projects are gone, Chicago FBI headquarters there, State Police building; Hell of a lot safer!
UIC is notoriously erasing Chicago history, first the Maxwell street market which for decades was a Chicago tradition and now Jim’s? The people need to speak out before they decide to take the kitchen sink too.
Here is my question why are they still paying rent all these years they could have bought a building and left that location not making sense to me enjoy
This sum Bull🤬!!!!Good food..They took Ju town away now they stopping the hours of people eating ...That University blanked alot of stuff up!!Maxwells..Jimmy's the best💯😋...Chi-Town..The Wild 100's to the West Side K Town..Kostner..To the Burbs..Country Club Hills..My Family🤘
I was in River North at 3 am today. Still people walking around and many places opened. I said to myself if this city is so dangerous how come these people don't go home and hide! lol
There was a time when a white boys could drive downtown to white castle late at night, and be surrounded by soul brothers. But I don't see it happening. Chicago has the best food. I have to drive miles in Naples Florida to just get a beef. And only 2 places for a real dog. One time in an add there was a place that said it had Vienna hot dogs. We drove 30 miles only to find out they had them but fried them on a grill.
Aye Pat said at 3am when your are coming home from the bar……PATRIIIICK are you drink and driving?!?!? LMAO!! Then cleaned it up by saying Or Whatever…..too funny
That sux, i use 2 hit maxwell street, at 330/5 am. There was always a line. I e even went when it was on Maxwell in the 90s while in HS. I want 1 now, but don't feel lik3 driving there, and not getting a DUI
My favorite always been the pork chop with the bone sandwich, mustard, grilled onions and peppers. Left Chicago several years ago but I miss all the great food.
thats the problem with having spoiled yuppies living in the area., they complain if a bird gets too loud, now they dont want people driving at 4 am.....notice its the land lord not the police
theyve had so much safety in the north, near north and loop areas, for sooooooo long. when the crime was isolated in poor areas where poor POC lived, they were ok with it. now that crime has dropped in poorer areas, and spilled in "happy town", now they whine and want people to address crime🤣 i love how things always work themselves out NATURALLY?
Used to enjoy Jim’s once a week when I was young. Now living in the NW Burbs where it’s safe and away from the animals. Portillo’s does an ok job on a Polish but it’s not Jim’s. But then again no chance on getting shot in the NW burbs.
lol and in 2012 some fool was like this ain't like it was in 94' lol same thing happened in 94'. I remember when the market got shut down and fools then was like but it ain't the same as before in that dirty ass open market full of roaches and rats. maybe you ain't the same or nostalgia is a lying bitch. just my thoughts
@@randyreynolds4252 u can’t compare the 90s Jim to the 2010s era all type of regulations they done to the meat and oil they use and what not, point is back in the day for me back in the day is 2012 lol shi was ridiculously good it was hydrated with rich buttery oil now it’s ass whipe
It makes sense UIC got to protect they're students.. where was security when the girl got hit in the face wit a bottle? Just got to be on point up there cause everybody goes there 💯
