The thumbs down comes from people like me who can't stand a horrible description... no date in the description = thumbs down. Even if it's shown at the beginning of the video. This is history..

Yup me too. Watched his movies as a kid. And I just watched one again and I was laughing. No wonder why I loved this guy. He’s hilarious. Actually influenced my comedy.
Best Mel Tillis impression ever. And done with love and exact same delivery. Wish we could have had Jim longer. What I wish people got to see more of was his classical acting. He knew how to get everyone emotionally invested in any character he played.
I read somewhere that his IQ was almost on a genius level and got sometimes annoyed when fans expected him to be a dim bulb like Ernest but still the friendliest guy you ever met.
@@thedarksideoftheforce6658 Your right, Jim Varney was extremely intelligent. He was also a classically trained actor well versed in Shakespeare. His work as Ernest often typecast him and held him back from taking on more dramatic roles, which he would have been great at. His life's story is so tragic in multiple ways. His comedy and work as Ernest has entertained generations and I think their are a lot more people now appreciating how talented Jim was.
@@dancortes3062 I know that's why I mentioned that. I followed him as a kid. I learned years ago and saw his theater acting on RU-vid. He should have been way bigger.
THANKYOU for posting this I miss my uncle alot he didn't have such a good childhood growing up but he could make the world laugh I was about 12/13 when he passed he always untill the day he passed had a smile on his face always nice always had time for people I really miss him glad others enjoyed his life what short time we had him💕
Absolutely love this. Such a gifted man. What alot of people only seem to know Jim Varney from is Earnest, however he was a much deeper and professional talent than that. R.I.P. Jim. Thank you for your contributions to acting and bringing smiles to millions!
Kinda grew out of the Ernest thing, but always thought Varney was a talented and charming guy. Love seeing stuff like this where he's just himself. Thanks.
Great Mel Tillis impersonation! Now there's a Storyteller comedian for ya. If anybody remembers he did a Saturday morning TV show also he was always trying to help the kids out he was awesome
That song made me cry. I was like 10 at the time. "You and me and me and you" while he was singing to the turtle because they were going to lose the camp. Good times.
I've never seen Jim's stand up before, I've always loved him in the Ernest movies, he's soo funny ! Soo sad he passed away in 2000 😪 such a sweet soul, Rest well in peace Jim Varney, you are truly missed ! I know you're making god laugh along with all the other angels ! ❤
Jim Varney Is The Funniest Actor Ever!!! Ernest Is A Hilarious, Lovable Comedy Icon & His Stand Up & Voice Work & Other Performances In Movies, TV Shows, Live Theatre, & In Other Media Are Always Top Notch. His different voices, comic timing & nuance, & amazing physical slapstick are all great & extremely unique & memorable! His rubber face expressions & regional accents & exaggerated wonderful voices are hilariously vivid. I love his charisma & strong stage presence. I've read that he was also a classically trained actor & loved to perform in Shakespeare plays. He was apparently a great dramatic actor as well & I can definitely see evidence of that talent as Nash in Ernest Goes To Jail! What a magnificent & stark transformation! As Nash, he's convincingly menacing, intelligent, very mature & masculine, & obviously virile & sexual; such a dramatic contrast with our adorable, sweet, & funny man-child, Ernest P. Worrell!! Jim Varney Is A Timeless Treasure! Thank you for all of the marvelous entertainment & art. RIP JIM VARNEY
I'm from Ohio and had never heard of him. It was in the late 80's and I'd moved to find work. One day I'm watching tv and see this buffoon doing milk commercials. I laughed my ass off. I became an instant fan.
I'm not sure my childhood TV experiences would have been as good without Jim. Absolute all-time favorite from my childhood and was a little heartbroken the day I heard he had died.
I remembered when Jim Varney first started doing tv commericals,I never laughed so hard in my life,If I had just one wish...I wish Jim would have never started 🚬⚠⬅smoking in the first place.
I think in Earnest Goes To Jail he opens up his closet to change clothes. He has many sets of the same ensamble hanging all together. RU-vid doesn’t have an uploaded clip of that. I think it’s hilarious.
The vice jim is doing for the horse trainer. Is a Gary burbank voice. Who was a local radio host in Cincinnati that done voices! I heard jim talk about it years ago on an interview on 700wlw.
I wish there was more we could learn from and about him. His earnest character with Vern, then the movies. Kids need to watch good fun movies like that again.
Jim was a funny guy. Really he was. My niece however, when she was but a wee child, found that Ernest Scared Stupid was her favorite movie and would watch it back to back to back for hours on end. I would babysit this kid. I tell you, never a movie with so much comedy and heart, literally had me pulling hair out. Pleading with this kid to stop! Finally, out of desperation, I hid the VHS.
That's awesome. Where did you see him do stand-up? It's funny how Letterman mentioned his line and how they used the HEY VERN GUY on the Top Ten list for years and years yet he never had Jim as a guest on the show. I always found that very peculiar.
