Jimbo Fisher Gives Ominous Warning On The ACC's Future | Josh Pate Calls ACC "Cooked"

Former FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher has warned the ACC and Big 12 that they are becoming “glorified minor leagues” or mid-majors in the new college football landscape. Fisher, who won a national championship at Florida State in 2013, discusses how difficult it will be for ACC programs to keep their top players for four years now that it is so easy for SEC and Big Ten schools to pluck their best players through the transfer portal. Meanwhile, 247Sports college football analyst Josh Pate says the ACC “feels cooked” after their awkward spring meetings and the lawsuits against the conference.
Hosts Alex Donno and Kenton Gibbs discussed the factors that have led the ACC to this point and why they only have themselves to blame. Former commissioner Swofford put his conference in a difficult position with the previous TV deals, especially the deal with Raycom Sports. Donno and Gibbs discuss how non-power conferences will have a tough time paying out their share of the House vs. NCAA antitrust settlement.

I think the portal and Nil have leveled the playing field for some. Look at what the portal and nil have done for Louisville, Miami and NC State. Some schools have a lot of money.

Your argument against Jimbo at A&M really demonstrates his point. He was able to buy the best recruiting class EVER. Now he as a coach didn't maximize that advantage but you can't say that it wasn't an advantage which was his point

Did y'all not hear about all of the comments that were made by a bunch of different schools to the ACC, that were spit back to them with no real answers and how mad most of the schools came out of the ACC meetings feeling? According to multiple very good sources there was a lot of teams that were very upset including Miami including Boston college Wake Forest to the point there's a belief that there may be a vote called in the future to dissolve the conference.

I am not a Jimbo Fisher fan by any means; but he is 100% correct and even the player analogy was spot on! Kenton can pick apart the Mahommes analogy but here are some examples that maybe he might not like but are true. Russell Wilson did transfer to Wisconsin from NCST. But instead of doing it his fifth year as a grad student he goes much sooner due to NIL and transfer rules changes and everything. Mister Boston College Matt Ryan hypothetically leaves after one year and goes to Georgia; which makes the Falcons drafting him heck of a lot easier and probably helps cool Mark Rict’s seat and UGA gets a championship sooner. NCST Phillip Rivers gets plucked by Notre Dame or Texas after one year or two under the new transfer window rules and NIL. Aaron Donald leaves Pitt after 1-2 seasons and goes to rival Penn State or Alabama or Texas or whomever wants him to play the most with the most to offer. I could go on. But Jimbo is one hundred percent correct on his assessment unfortunately.

Kenton is absolutely right about the Jimbo Fisher comments. Big 12 players are not leaving in droves for the SEC and Big ten. For instance five-star receiver Michael Hudson was recruited by Texas, Texas Tech, and Texas a&M. He went to Texas Tech.

I think Jimbo is right, Patrick Mahomes is a good example, but a Better example is Sanders at Colorado if it wasn’t for his dad being the coach that dude would’ve left halfway during the season for better money. I’m not even thinking about his time at Jackson St, just the dynamics of him at Colorado and his talent.

Maybe I'm just not getting it, but why would an ACC-Big 12 merger be beneficial? I would argue that the ACC has bigger national brand schools than does the Big12, so if a merger were to happen, who nationally would tune in to watch Baylor vs. Syracuse; Or Houston vs Boston College. The ACC needs to focus on improving its image/perception in football and it starts with beating our own drum like Kenon said in a previous episode.

Definitely agree with that. Plus any agreement with the big-12 would be the "Alliance" part 2. The big-12 wants ACC teams yet the ACC doesn't really even want big-12 teams. As Far as Promoting the ACC that would come from a single dedicated media network. Plus selling media inventory that was always the issue.

Jimbo is talking the ACC and Big 12 being 'junior colleges;. I would like to remind him that there's a sizable gap between Big 10 ($61 million) vs SEC ($50 million) and it's growing annually. And SEC's flagship, Alabama, is in a precarious position, with Nick Saban gone. His SEC could very well be in the same boat as the ACC and Big 12 by 2025.

I don't know if it will make money, but it would be fun as hell. Merge the ACC and the big 12 and split it into two leagues based on conference record. Have the bottom 1/4 from the top league swap with the top 1/4 of the bottom league every year in soccer style promotion relegation.

Why do I think the realignment issue will include more than three ACC teams once the house settlement passes. It won’t be instant, but this revenue sharing model could start in 2025. This fall schools will start looking at numbers, and are going to freak out when they realize how much of a disadvantage the ACC schools are at. I don’t think reality has set in fully yet.

With a 12 team playoff a 4 loss Ohio state or 4 loss Michigan will not be left out. That's the beauty of the setup, it opens up all sorts of manipulation and monkey business to throw games and maximize the number of playoff spots for P2 branding. No B12 or others will see the playoffs unless they've won every single game, and even then, their schedule and starting roster will be so scrutinzed it will be a 50/50 proposition as to whether they beat out a heavily branded P2 team for that final spot....Consolidation isn't some future tense thing, it's already happened, and from here on out, any P2 school would be crazy to vote for adding any program that wasn't a proven football doormat.

I'm in the Big 10 (Ohio State) and Jimbo got some nerve! The very same ACC where he rode Heisman winner Jameis Winston to a national championship flipping into a $90 million Texas A & M buyout? See what happens when they don't need you anymore? They call you 'junior colleges'. Drake Maye still gets drafted from the ACC the same as Daniel Jones. What is Jimbo Fisher talking about? There has yet to be a pure revenue breakaway. In the Reality-based world there is only top 10 schools competing and maybe 10 more schools in the hunt. Basically the top 25 AP poll. Clemson recent struggles have also been because lots of ACC teams like Duke have actually improved a bit in football. Shocking. Even 13-0 FSU w/10 Draft picks struggles with Boston college. Josh Pate is an SEC Mouthpiece. Somehow Josh Pate also called the big-12 America's conference. So somehow magically big-12 will be ok... By law ESPN or any other major network could not have had all of the tier 3 content. Everyone was required to have a regional content. Raycom was always going to be in there. All Regional networks are being decimated by cord cutting anyway. Even Ballys needs to offload MLB content to Amazon for a discount. Everyone was getting screwed. Nobody remembers the Big10 got lowballed by ESPN ?Then the B1G combined, 3 network deal packages. With a prohibitive contract and all the ACC still made overall more than the Full Pac-12 & Texas/Oklahoma Big-12. The ACC was only 10Milllion per behind the SEC in 2022. Please demontrate prior injury from a media revenue gap. The ACC still had Football and basketball success during the length of the contract. There is literally no significant case to be proven. ESPN strategy has always been to lock up content on long contracts. Even if ESPN really wanted to drop the ACC they wouldn't. They would still renew just to resale it. ACC would still have unused inventory to sell.

You know what would solve all of the ACC problems … All of the schools need to shut up & stop being The Karen’s of college football & start winning on the field…At least half of the ACC needs to be dominate every year & then the Money will follow… Stop blaming the ACC conference when your team is only winning 4 or 5 games a year & looking for a hand out…. Every ACC school should be focusing on making the entire ACC stronger than the B1G & SEC …. Then all of that TV money will eventually filter its way over to the ACC … Nobody in the ACC needs to get out …. All that needs to happen is all of the ACC AD’s need to take a long hard look in the mirror & realize you’re the problem the ACC is failing by NOT a putting Nationally Competitive product on the field year in & year out….
