James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix; November 27, 1942 - September 18, 1970) was an American rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Although his mainstream career spanned only four years, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music, and one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describes him as "arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music".
Born in Seattle, Washington, Hendrix began playing guitar at the age of 15. In 1961, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and trained as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division; he was granted an honorable discharge the following year. Soon afterward, he moved to Clarksville, Tennessee, and began playing gigs on the Chitlin' Circuit, earning a place in the Isley Brothers' backing band and later with Little Richard, with whom he continued to work through mid-1965. He then played with Curtis Knight and the Squires before moving to England in late 1966 after being discovered by Linda Keith, who in turn interested bassist Chas Chandler of the Animals in becoming his first manager. Within months, Hendrix had earned three UK top ten hits with the Jimi Hendrix Experience: "Hey Joe", "Purple Haze", and "The Wind Cries Mary". He achieved fame in the U.S. after his performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, and in 1968 his third and final studio album, Electric Ladyland, reached number one in the U.S.; it was Hendrix's most commercially successful release and his first and only number one album. The world's highest-paid performer, he headlined the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 before his accidental death from barbiturate-related asphyxia on September 18, 1970, at the age of 27.
Hendrix was inspired musically by American rock and roll and electric blues. He favored overdriven amplifiers with high volume and gain, and was instrumental in utilizing the previously undesirable sounds caused by guitar amplifier feedback. He helped to popularize the use of a wah-wah pedal in mainstream rock, and was the first artist to use stereophonic phasing effects in music recordings. Holly George-Warren of Rolling Stone commented: "Hendrix pioneered the use of the instrument as an electronic sound source. Players before him had experimented with feedback and distortion, but Hendrix turned those effects and others into a controlled, fluid vocabulary every bit as personal as the blues with which he began."
Hendrix was the recipient of several music awards during his lifetime and posthumously. In 1967, readers of Melody Maker voted him the Pop Musician of the Year, and in 1968, Rolling Stone declared him the Performer of the Year. Disc and Music Echo honored him with the World Top Musician of 1969 and in 1970, Guitar Player named him the Rock Guitarist of the Year. The Jimi Hendrix Experience was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. Rolling Stone ranked the band's three studio albums, Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love, and Electric Ladyland, among the 100 greatest albums of all time, and they ranked Hendrix as the greatest guitarist and the sixth greatest artist of all time.

This is what made Hendrix so great his ability to improve a whole set mixing songs together and creating something new in front of a new audience every night or every other night he was a complete genius I love how he has for every show a different version of his songs it's like you'd never hear the same thing twice with hendrix he was always pushing the envelope with new a radical improve

Eric and Jimmy’s mutual respect for each other destroys any legitimacy on the who is better than who argument. I listened to a 1966 bootleg of cream that Hendrix would’ve tipped his hat to Eric. Mr. Clapton was on fire period. Everything that Hendrix did Clapton tipped his hat to him. Both were incredible guitarists and innovators. May they’re music live on forever.

This is actually the last concert of the Jimi Hendrix Expierience in it's "original" lineup. Then they split up, after Jimi used to play concerts experimenting with different lineups (for example Newport Pop with Buddy Miles). Jimi took Mitch and his army friend Billy Cox (together with some guest musicians) to Woodstock. After Woodstock, the Band Of Gypsys was created, Jimi was the only musician from the old Experience at this point.

Great to stumble across these old bootlegs. Surprisingly good audio, treble rolled off and guitar up in the mix which I like. Can't help but admire how totally free and fluid he was in his improvisation and 'off the wall' playing style. Almost like he never learnt to play a scale in his life. It's all soundscapes, textures, and grooves.

❤️ This is significant. This is the free flowing dynamic that Jimi, was searching for. He had it. Like so many of us. Then let it go. Amazing,Thank you So sad, but this given spirit is sonic modulation electric divine . How about that. Last night with Noel. Rest in peace all of them The heights.

Interesting....During this concert, Jimi tells the audience that this will be their last gig together!....But Noel Redding did not leave the group, until the next day, when he heard that Hendrix had told the media that he was going to expand the group!...Noel was pissed that Jimi had not mentioned this to him. What the hell?

no nothing I 've found about talkbox then...all is done up to this time with fuzz face and wahwah...around this time thoufg he got a third pedal the uni-vibe...Hendrix is still the only one I know who was able to play like this, all effects looped and totally in control of the caused feedback and squeaks which is only done by very fine adjustments..

Hey man your channel is gold, pure 24k gold. I’m from Denver so this is mind blowing, but I’m just curious how the hell you have these live recordings? If you mind telling of course, this is absolutely insane and it was about time some body did this for the one and only force of nature, Jimi Hendrix. Either way, I just want to say thank you, you have a gold channel here, have a blessed life.

I bought a Hendrix tour book from someone in the early 70’s and the date from this show was written in it. I had no way to find out what the date meant until the 2000’s and Google . So I now know the original owner was in all probability at this performance. I wish it had been me, I was a little too young 14yrs old.

The crowd inside the stadium did not riot. It was the crowd outside the stadium who were trying to get in that rioted and police felt forced to use tear gas to disperse them. The gas wafted over into the stadium and could be smelled by the majority of the patrons and Jimi comments on the firing of the gas in his opening remarks.
