Jimi Hendrix used to spend much of his youth in Vancouver, Canada. He'd stay with his loving grandmother. She worked at Vie's Chicken and Steak House. This is about their relationship.

Such a great story. Jimi did have a short, tough life. But he never gave up. He just got caught up in all the confusion of show business. I wish he had better friends. But he didn't. I have been a follower/fan of Jimi's music since I found his Are You Experienced album in a K Mart store in 1967. I was thirteen years old. It changed my musical life forever. Thanks Jimi. You were so generous and kind. Play on brother...

first album I ever bought was Electric Ladyland in 1968 - after hearing All Along The Watchtower on the radio, I just had to get it. I was 14. Jimi, AND Steve Winwood on organ, Jack Casady on bass, Chris Wood on woodwinds, Dave Mason on acoustic guitar. Everybody wanted to play with Jimi. Those were the days.

My older next door neighbor let me borrow his copy of RU Exper. in '67 as well. I saw him in concert in '70 a couple of months before he died. He was full of heroin and could barely walk from his limo to the outdoor stage. It was brutal.

I was 15 then, when I first heard "Purple Haze" on the car radio (my mother was driving), and it mesmerized me, the music and his guitar sounding so wild, so different from anything I'd ever heard before. So many have incorporated Jimi's playing style as their own, after his passing, but, at the time, he was certainly unique and projected a powerful presence as a musician and "flower power" representative of the late-'60s counterculture.

A common theme that I noticed in all greats is that they started obsessively practicing as a form of therapy to heal from a traumatic life event or bear the weight of a chronic illness, or even, to deal with being used as a child prodigy. Prince got abandoned by his parents when he was found making love to a girl at 12 years old (a story he would later tell in the movie Purple Rain). Tony Williams, drummer for Miles Davis starting at 17 years old, was abandoned as well at only 8 and was left in an apartment with nothing in it except a drumset. Art Tatum was so poor and alone, that he didn't knew the records he listened to were made using mechanical pianos, so learned to play the bassline in chords on every song! Those are a few notable examples. Almost every artist I know myself included, practice their art first and foremost to heal themselves. Perhaps this is why it is so healing to others.

The guitar has always been there for me, through thick and thin. Even if just 1 string is all it has, there it is to take all of what I can give it, never judging, never arguing, just always there. Not sure if therapy would be less expensive but I do have something to show for the money spent.

A lot of folks thought that Jimi was anti American, thinking his rendition of the Star Spangled Banner was derogatory. The exact opposite is true! Jimi was super patriotic, an ex military veteran, and a huge supporter of the troops. Just because he raised his "Freak Flag" high, that was more of a symbolic show of individualism . We could sure use him today, and I'm convinced he could help unite the country with his music!

U can say that again bro. But as patriotic as he may have been, the Anthem was clearly an anti Vietnam thing. 🎶 And the rockets red glare …..

I've a feeling that Jimi's potential to unite the country against corrupt government is the reason the FBI targeted him. That's why the red wine filling his lungs along with the pills is a clue to what happened. Have a look at that research.

Nice, but it should be noted that Jimi did not start writing songs until _after_ he moved to England, initially under the mentorship of Chas Chandler. When he was "discovered" by Chandler playing the Café Wha?, he had no original material whatsoever. The fact he began writing such brilliant pieces immediately following the formation of the Experience speaks for his compositional genius. Anyway, many thanks for the video.

Correct. I am Johnathan Foster, born sept. 18 1970 .. natural drummer since age 2 1/2 and I thought I knew all the important concepts about Johnny Allen, James Marshall. However, this COMPLETELY blows out of the water everything about him selling his soul to the devil, or that there was some guitar god in Tennessee that taught him some “thing” that Jimi took and changed it into something nobody else had, and “then” he became the jimi we all know…..now is all not true. He was always then going in this direction because he knew who his grandmama was and grandpa, and the talent, and ya know they “hada” say somethin’ to the guy sometime. And it’s not now his story that he just so happened to take to the guitar, he was already aware. And the family has been making money on this idea not telling people or making it widely known that his grandma was a prominent entertainer, it just changes everything about how he began, and why he was so much of a stand out even in the army, people realized he was really good. This all came from his grand parents his brother and sister never speak about. What a bunch of liars. And I have tried to speak with them and they won’t speak with me. However, this also doesn’t change fact that he WAS NOT AN OVERDOSE, HE JIMI HENDRIX WAS MURDERED. THIS IS NOT AN ACCIDENT IT’S A MURDER. AND THE FAMILY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO CHANGE THE STORY, THE ARE MAKING MONEY ON THE LIE. Forensics today, modern forensics after the body is exhumed would tell the real truth about how this wonderful person, half Cherokee Native American, not completely black, how this gifted musician was murdered, the forensics today would tell the truth. The sister and brother will not do this. This is a complete crime against humanity.

@@jdf237That's great u were born on September 18 1970. I have a former NBA friend that was born on NOVEMBER 27. Let Leon Hendrix tell the story; music ruined the family. His words, not mine. But yet, Leon has his own band & plays some of JIMIS' songs. As for step sister Janie, it's just business with the JIMI HENDRIX name. Funny how advancement in technology can end 1 era. The film industry spelled the end of Vaudeville. Nora & her sister Belle wore many lavish costumes during the Vaudeville era. It's obvious that 'ol Jimi listened to his grandmother's Vaudeville stories growing up as well as their AFRICAN -CHEROKEE ancestry.
@jdf237
@jdf237 4 месяца назад
@@RICHBLACKCOCK all respect, but no the brother is a liar and I didn’t know for the longest time because of just not knowing information and real history which I have learned a lot more over the years, and the sister is a liar, they got all the money and real reason to do a state of the art forensics autopsy and they won’t. This is sad. They’re a bunch of sad ass liars. And I do not mean that personally, I just mean that on the facts that we know now, I have complete proof that it’s a murder. 100% fact. All the information is already on paper, and the brother sister duo will not tell the truth. This is sad. Sometimes it makes me so mad I wish I could punch him, not that I would, ever, but it does make me really mad. I do not want to leave it up to his brother, he is not telling the truth. And my problem is no one gives me any credibility because of what the whole concept sounds like: there is some chump born the day Jimi was murdered and says he knows how to prove that Jimi was murdered, but no one else can????? I know I sound like I am fucking crazy but everything about me is true. I am the only friend Jimi Hendrix has, I am the only one standing up for the truth about this wonderful person, and that he is not a casualty, he is not an accident, he did not overdose, he did not commit suicide, a guy who does not drink red wine …. we’re all being told by the autopsy that he drowned in red wine, and there was tons of it in his stomach, a guy who does not drink red wine, was fully clothed when found, vomit completely dry, dried red wine everywhere, and the pills…. it says on the autopsy that the pill, bigger ones and smaller ones were found in his stomach. Most people don’t realize what that means: it means the pills were undigested and undigested sleeping pills can not put a person to sleep, and undigested sleeping pills can not kill anyone. The blood alcohol content was extremely low in the blood which means he was murdered before digestion could take place, THIS PROVES 100% murder. Jimi was murdered. My friend.
@jdf237
@jdf237 4 месяца назад
And because of God I was born with credibility to speak about this in ways the family won’t, because just like me, it hurts too much to speak about it. There are few things that make me cry, this is one of the very few. I do have the credibility to say this, and I am the only one alive with credibility that can say this.

Might I add, since it isn't often considered relevant enough, the fact that Ed Chalpin's contract with J.M.H. was the source of much of the musician's hardship and heartache. Chalpin was in London when Jimi died, and Michael Jeffrey no longer supported Hendrix, opening the door for Chalpin.

If you pardon the turkey this makes for a pretty good Thanksgiving. We all enjoy a good meal and should celebrate more often. God Bless.
