Big day for 2 Hacks Garage, Jimmy's real fine 409 is going in Jumping Jack Flash, our nostalgia front engine dragster! I have been waiting for this day for months and all the hard work is paying off! Now when I say 409, that is a 409 cubic inch small block Chevy, not the old school "W" head 409. If you want to see what went into this engine, we have a video on that too!
This is much different then installing an engine in a car, yes there is more room but there is also a different method involved that I am not used to. With a dragster, everything goes in at once, engine and transmission! Doing this was actually pretty simple after we bolted the engine and transmission to the engine plate. From there we set the torque converter spacing and made sure we had our engine mount ready to go. Actually, this was very simple and there were no clearance problems. All of the drivetrain lined up exactly the way we planned and fabricated the chassis to. Win win on our part!
Now that the engine is installed, we can focus on making this a runner! That sounds simple and fast, but it is not, there are a lot of the "little things" that need to happen before we light the candles on this horsepower monster! Next steps on this rocket on wheels, installing the cylinder heads, rebuild and install the Hilborn mechanical fuel injection, and start hooking up all the cables that makes this thing go! Before you know it, Jimmy and I will be making our licensing passes and drag racing our summer away! Be there or be square!
