@@cjcurtis8944 I was hoping to see him in concert again. I lost my father from brain cancer, then my stepfather from a massive heart attack. The last few years I’ve been pretty busy dealing with their estates and didn’t get to see Jimmy in concert. Yeah this one is going to hard for a long time. He will be missed by millions of people. He was a great performer and his concerts were one big beach party.
@@jcfc8197 I grew up on his music (I am 54). I was only ever able to see him once. I was in High School and he played our county fair. But his music has always been with me. Coconut Telegraph is on my list of desert island (maybe pun intended) records should I ever have to choose.
A big part of his success was not only in his music and his entertaining ability, but in his wonderful, down to earth, nice personality. Unlike most entertainers, he never let all of the success go to his head. What a guy! We need many more like him.
❤Jimmy. Smartest businessman I knew, because he pretended not to be a businessman, or smart. Great marketing of his name, reputation, product. He sold "island beach fun". Brillant
Rest in Peace Jimmy I truly am going to miss you I remember working in a ER and Icu unit and the nurses used to listen to your songs to get through the night because we seen people at their worst times sometimes they lost their children or people that they loved and many times even though we were sad that we didn’t get to save them we had to listen to your music to help us through the nights and sadness of our jobs thank you for all the support you lovely music.
Funny he mentions Paul McCartney and I just heard that Paul came and sang to him on his deathbed. RIP Mr. Buffett. You are a legend. What a life you had.
I'm from Miami , I now and again saw Jimmy Buffett at "Monty's in the grove" I saw him 3 times in concert, once by accident. in Orlando visiting a friend from Miami, apprently there was a free concert we stumbled on that day. All my Neices, and Nephews sing all the "songs we know by heart" You will be missed. you were a true humanitarian. and you are already missed! RIP
My granddaughter now 14, myself 65, always loved and sang Jimmy Buffett song along with my cassettes especially Sailor looks at 40. She could sing it by heart at age 3. You will always be loved for many years to come, a true legend ❤. RIP fly high
I'm from Belgium and had never heard of this man. I don't think people in Europe have. After watching about 10 youtube videos I'm impressed. He had a huge following in America
We’ve lost another legend 😢 Rest in peace Jimmy, an Army of Parrot heads are going to miss you 🦜 My wife and I saw Jimmy in concert back in 2015 and he was Great!
Rest in peace Jimmy Buffett. I hope they have salt shakers in heaven brother. You will surely be missed here on Earth but Heaven is now Margaritaville. We all love you!
My heart hurts since learning of his passing yesterday morning. 💔. He gave us so many great songs and concerts, SO MANY fantastic memories… This man brought such happiness to SO MANY! You will be forever missed and never forgotten by Parrot Heads around the world, Mr Buffet! Thank you for sharing your music with us for 50+ years! God bless you and Jane and the kids and all who have loved you. Job well done, Sailor. We salute you. Rest easy friend.
My first experience seeing Jimmy Buffett was an early 70s show where he opened up for a pianist named Billy Joel in the Jacksonville University gym. During "God's Own Drunk" when he gets to the line "and that's when I first saw the bear" somebody in a bear suit ran out onstage. Jimmy was laughing so hard he stopped playing the song until he could compose himself. Buffett and Joel both hit it big a few years later. On a side note, I bought the A1A album solely for the cover without having heard a single note from it. That just looked like the perfect life.
Linda👍🏖🎶100%......Jimmy is like that comedy scene in Forrest gump , where all the boats were damaged in the storm...but 1 boat wasn't damaged...so that I boat ( Jimmy) isnt even a great singer or guitarist,....yet there was nobody else for that position,...Jimmy collected all that SUCCESS!!!!!🏖🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍Jimmy!!!!!👍👍👍 ...that 1 boat in the movie caught all those shrimp!!!!🤣🤣🤣👍🏖🎶
As I write this, there are 101 dislikes. 101 people who live in a VERY sad world. How anyone could not like this guy and just feel happy with his music is too hard to imagine.
@@fluffyotter1601 you know...I'm a liberal so I tend to agree with him when it comes to Republicans, but I like his music. And even though I'm a liberal, I still enjoy a good chicken sandwich, and Chik Fil A is still the best, despite what my liberal friends tell me. And even though I'm a liberal, I liked Ellen Degeneres, even AFTER she went to a baseball game with GW Bush and my fellow liberals vilified her. You should stop worrying about politics in everything - life is so much better. He had these views the whole damn time you liked him, but when he spoke out about Trump, you give it up. Even if I was a die hard Republican, I'd pay to see a Jimmy Buffett concert over the chance to attend one of Trump's "ramblin rallies" for free. For years you've found enjoyment in his music, but you'll forfeit that happiness for Donald Trump.
There's WAAAAY more than 101 a-holes who have no musical taste & large sticks in their butts. It's actually a GOOD thing cuz it lets us normal cool ppl kno who to avoid😏😉
@KCFlyer2 I am in agreement with you regarding the fact that it shouldn't matter what a musician's politics are. If you like their music, who CARES what their politics are? And, the truth is, over 90% of all musicians are liberals. If I decided I wasn't going to listen to a musician's music because they were liberal, I'd have NO ONE to listen to. That being said, I completely, disagree with your bringing Donald Trump in the discussion. It did nothing to bolster your argument and, therefore, was 100% unnecessary. Seriously. I am convinced that nearly everyone on the left spend large portions of each and every day obsessing & raging over Donald Trump. It's truly peculiar to me. Bottom line, I agree with your overall point.
Jimmy was soaking up his tears with that $30 million/year down at the end. You have to remember that music is like colors or flowers or aromas... what a person likes is perfect for them and it stops there. Jimmy Buffett's music produced a joy that was better shared than kept selfishly to one's self.
RIP Legend. The live performances were fantastic. He sold a lifestyle. I had no idea how wealthy he was; thought he was a beach bum who sang a song on occasion.
Lisa Davis In 1972 JB came to play at a coffee house in Bryn Mawr, PA and I found out and gathered about 20 friends from Bay Head, NJ to come up to see him. We were the only ones there. He hung out with us and after the show he agreed to go down to the shore and party with us. We followed his career and then when he started playing larger venues in Camden NJ he told the story of our meeting up at the Main Point. He always made a fuss over us and dedicated my favorite song... Come Monday. This man is a true gentleman and a talent so huge there is no way to describe. Our life was....before Jimmy and after Jimmy.
Loved that place! Great venue. It's where Springsteen sang happy birthday to one of my friends during his Feb 1975 show! The Main Point had so many great acts come through those doors over the years.
Love you & remember you & all your songs! You brought happiness to this old world. Watch over your Parrot Heads & us, your friends that loved you every day of your beautiful life❤❤❤❤
Lisa David TY for doing that for him. He knew you & your friends not BS people. You were true & appreciative!😢 World is a little less brighter now!❤❤❤❤
The escapism he offers includes an escape from the political rhetoric we hear on the news--and at concerts like Halsey's. He understands how we feel and refuses to give political speeches during his shows. Performers like Halsey can and should learn from him.
Give him credit for realizing his music had an expiration date. He then builds a business empire riding on his own self-made coattail. For kicks he keeps on playing the circuits.
I would have to say that he was a keen observer of the reactions that his music produced... and he said it: he just tapped into that. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy...
So sad, RIP Jimmy, we didn't know you existed until we went on a holiday to Mexico, my husband plays guitar and the Americans and Canadians kept saying do you know any Buffet songs ? Well we we got back to the UK we looked him up and have been playing and singing his songs ever since. My favourite is Pirate at Forty ❤
So crazy that he mentioned how high stress laborers sometimes listen to his music, what got me into jimmy buffet and watching this video was working long hours in an intense environment that lead to a lot of depression and anxiety, but when I crank “Changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes”, it all just seems to melt away. Wish I could thank this man for bringing me a little peace when I need it most.
Yep! I'd leave Turkey Point Nuclear Power Station just north of The Keys and turn on a Buffet tape. Hard work, challenging conditions, good pay, tired as hell. Pop a longneck open and get home. A few good tunes was my reward...washed down with a cold Miller. I didn't give a crap about anything for a little while each day. That's how I stayed sane.
Really that is interesting 🤔 I would consider that the cringiest living hell ever thought of lmao. Maybe throw a little Nickelback in that sound track and you definitely got the soundtrack of hell as far as I'm concerned 😂
Hope you are at "that one particular harbor" my Captain.😢Much appreciation for sharing your great music with all of us! ❤ Prayers and love to your family and your fans, from a lifelong Parrothead🦜.
When my daughter was a baby and was teething and couldn’t sleep I take care her out for a ride and play Jimmy Buffett and she stopped crying and we listened to him on our drives everywhere as she grew up. I saw him 4 times but danced to him at home a hundred plus times . So many great memories with friends all because of his wonderful songs. Thank you Jimmy♥️, condolences to your family and friends and Rest in Paradise♥️🙏🏼
Met him quite by accident in the 80’s. Only for a few minutes. Now all these years later I feel like I’ve lost a friend. Whenever I’ve been down, Jimmy’s music has lifted me back to my feet. Thank you for the music and poetry Jimmy.
He does so much more than play music. He cuts up, makes jokes, he entertains and makes people happy. That's why people love him and his music. People like to kick back, have fun and forget their troubles.
I like that he told the back story where the idea came from on a lot of his songs he wrote. Definitely will be missed for new music but I find myself humming his songs around the house until I turn something on. My singing isn't that good! 😂
Rest in Peace. Lost another great one who brought alot of joy and happiness to millions. Only started to appreciate him in the last couple of years but I am very sad today for us and of course his lovely family. God Bless Jimmy!
What a wonderful documentary. I sailed in the Caribbean listening to Jimmy Buffett's songs with a drink in my hand. I listen to his music when I want to feel free of every day stress and to bring those island memories back. It does the trick. RIP Jimmy.
Jimmy, it will always be 5:00 somewhere..... we have been best of friends in your music and concerts.... will miss you dearly... but your music lives on my friend.... see you on the flip side...
I'm thinkin back to 1977 when i was a sailor, i was newly divorced spending all my time on the beach back when you could drive onto Jax Beach, i had an old ford van and had just bought Jimmy Buffett's new cassette "changes in Latitude changes in attitude" , during those days i played his album constantly while chillin on the beach with long neck miller high lifes, great memories of the navy and Jimmy ❤
Jimmy left an incredible legacy of celebration, fun, and good will as well as in extensive collection of great tunes and performances. We parrot heads are so grateful of the joy that he brought us!!
Jimmy was 1st concert at 15, he opened for the Eagles at the Miami Baseball Stadium in 1977. Eleven kids in a Vega, all without permission to go, we all got grounded but it was well worth the trip from Ft Lauderdale 👍🍹🍹🍹🍹🍹
He is amazing! Never had a hit?? What planet are you from Jr. Graduate in 1990? Such a great everyday guy? He will always last? Very deepest sympathies to all his loved ones. Just a horrible loss! I’m so very sad. Jimmy, we all had lives, but you gave us the gift of stepping out of those lives for a couple of hours. We got to be beach bums for awhile, before going back to work the next day💕
I literally had every one of his albums - many times over - as I played them to death. Havana Daydreamin' is one that you'd NEVER get tired of, and I also LOVED Floridays, which is a bit different. He started a whole genre of music. Confirmed proud Parrot Head here! RIP my friend.
I've been a Parrothead since the 70's. I was a professional mariner for about 4 decades after that, I've sailed the world around more than once. Jimmy Buffett sailed every inch of every mile with me, for about 4 decades. He may be gone but he will never be forgotten as long as I live. I saw another post recently about him spending his last hours with his siblings. My family is going through something like that now. I'm going to attach a picture at the end of this. My wife and I went on our 3rd date to one of his concerts in 1989. We"re still together and have 3 children. We've been to many of his concerts since. We will miss them. Our condolences go out to his family and all of the others that will miss him as we will. Our middle son is in rough shape, he's 30. I guess I can't attach a picture to this, but I understand what he and his family went through in the end. Fair Winds and Following Seas!
It’s no surprise to me his biggest fan bases are in northern climates. I spent the first half of my life in the PNW and the gray skies and rain left me with seasonal affective disorder so bad it put me in the hospital 3 times until a sharp doctor figured out what was happening and told me I needed to move somewhere sunny. I credit Jimmy’s music for saving my life while I was so miserable. Now I live in Florida, living the “Floridays” dream, still singing along to every Buffett song ever written. Thanks for the music Jimmy! You have no idea how much it’s meant to me. 😎🏝️
Lol. I chuckled about Fl. being your saving happy place. I mean, I’m glad for you but for me, both times I’ve been there, I couldn’t leave fast enough. Both of the vacations I took there (only there because of friends/family) I cut both of them short. I LOVE my Michigan seasons, the change in wardrobes and activities and especially how beautiful it is in northern MI. I just shake my head about all my customers (snowbirds) that go to Fl. in the winter. It’s funny how the things that make some ppl so happy make just as many miserable. Happy you found your place!
When people found out he donated to Barack Obama the stunned silence was deafening. People didn’t cancel him because the party was bigger then his politics. Rare and a shame it’s not like that with more people.
RIP Jimmy Buffet! He’s most likely still rocking it out up there over there somewhere. Live life as it goes, live Aloha. Don’t sweat the small stuff and just live. Very inspiring person indeed. Prayers up to your fam 🙏🙏🙏
He was one of my family’s favorites and he died of the same cancer as my dad who was taken away after it spread to his brain. Jimmy seems like family. DEAR LORD HOW I MISS THEM BOTH!! I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO KEEP HONORING HIM WHEN I GET TO GULF SHORES AND WE ALWAYS SAVE UP TO GO TO LULU’s! That we will save up to go to no matter what. Love you Jimmy and Pop- miss you both!
Still workin' Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays -- Sunday and Monday off. Not a bad schedule. See you in the next life, Jimmy. Sail On brother and thanks for a literal lifetime of great music.
Jimmy, thanks for living your life like a song, and playing all that great music for us. See you in Margaritaville someday. Fair winds and following seas.
Every time I here “Barefoot Children In The Rain” , I think of when my children were small and whenever it rained, they would be out in the street, barefoot and playing in the rain. That’s what makes Jimmy Buffet’s music so iconic. In every song, there is a story that somebody in some way can relate to. His Songs made people happy, his concerts made people happy, his personality made people happy. Jimmy is gone now, but his music and his stories will last forever. As a Mississippi boy, I am proud that Jimmy was one of us, I’m grateful that I literally grew up with his music, I’m happy that my children grew up to his music. I will always listen to his music until my time comes. Thank you, Jimmy for your life and talent, you will be missed.
Fun, joy, happy entertainment with playful, rascally songs. He gave us permission to enjoy ourselves for no other reason than having pure, hedonistic pleasure.
He was just ahead of his time. Then there came a time when feeling good was never more important and he was the top of the game on feeling good. Thank you Jimmy for being part of my life and my feeling good! I lived in Key West for awhile too. Gonna miss your smile!
I figured this out about JB. He's a clean, Catholic boy who has schoolboy persona. Always making the right decisions in life, following the golden rule.
I don’t think that guy even knew how to frown! He had a perpetual smile on his face and put a lot of smiles on other peoples faces! A one-man party! Rest in peace, Jimmy Buffett. Hope you’re serving up a lot of margaritas in Heaven !
Boy, this one was well done. Big ol' hot tears rollin' off the cheeks during that last 5-7 minutes or so. Dyin' is as much a part of life as livin'.. .but Jimmy Buffett made his mark on the "livin' " side. Happy Trails, Mr. B. Thanks for a lot of great memories. I'm thankful we have your recordings to remember your joyful spirit by.
He did it his way. He had more fans that most. His music let us have a vacation for a couple of hours. He was true. RIP Jimmy. I know you found that lost shaker of salt.
Jimmy had the ability to make people happy. His always present smile was contagious. He was a much better songwriter than even he acknowledged. Jimmy touched our hearts and souls. He made live easier to bear. A very unassuming man who made generations of people's lives just a little easier to bear. Sail on Jimmy. We will miss you but you will always be in our hearts and certainly always on our playlists. We love you man!!!!
So many songs through so many phases of life. Thank you Sir everytime you take us to wonderful places. May you rest in peace but I think where ever you are there's a party.
Great interview and Jimmy you have a contagious smile that will live on forever. Thank you for all your great music. When i was stressed your music mellowed me out. I have been humming Pirate at 40 since I heard you left us. Even though I'm so sad you're gone your music is pulling me thru. RIP Jimmy. Condolences to your wife and children. Sail on sweet pirate. ⛵⚓
