How did you spend your quarantine? Jimmy Buffett asked the fans to tell him which songs, not in his usual repertoire, would they like to hear? Within minutes, over 10,000 tracks were requested. Some songs he had to re-learn as it's been so long since he played them! Directed by Jimmy's daughter, Delaney Buffett, the docuseries is an inside look of the stories and inspirations of the songs.
The series has become a fan favorite which of course evolved into recording his favorites with producer/bandmate Mac McAnally and Coral Reefers Peter Mayer and Eric Darken. Available at: smarturl.it/SYDKBH

This man was so much deeper than the world ever gave him credit for, and to me, the best part is that he didn't seem to care.

When I tell people I enjoy listening to Jimmy, it's always "That Margaritaville guy?" or "Yea Cheeseburgers in Paradise!", but then I have to show them songs like this (or countless others), that are just beautiful stories in song form. Jimmy really had a talent for telling stories with a large majority of his songs, He'll definitely be missed, but we are lucky to have the gift of his amazing story telling left behind to remind us.

Yep, I sadly thought the same thing until about 8-9 years ago. Thought of it as hokey and cheesy, but I started listening to him during a rough part of my life when I needed something silly like Volcano or Fins. The older I get, the closer I look at things and try to truly understand them.

Jimmy Buffett is not the poet that lived before his time ... he is the poet for all times. He's left us with so much, that saying "Thank you Jimmy" sounds so spare, but I am not a poet; just an ever grateful listener.

Looking back on these stories that Delaney was documenting, we now see there was a greater purpose… these were actually being documented in order to preserve her Fathers Legacy… his story telling only he can articulate of the times he was living in, setting a mood and hearing them just sitting and talking about his life’s adventures. Thank you for this.. generations will appreciate this so much!🙏🏻⛵️🦜🩴🏝️😎💔

Exactly! When diagnosed with cancer your first thoughts are what are you leaving behind. With your kids, and for someone of his stature, the fans. This is one of my very favorite songs. He and his spicy daughter did his very best to give us a happy ending. Thank you so much for this. He left us so much happiness, so as his last words said “have fun”. Still grieving, but am doing my best to have fun.

On one of his live albums Jimmy says to the audience "I never won an award for any song I wrote, but being here with you is reward enough." That speaks volumes... Good Lord- I, like Millions of people miss him already. Thank you Delaney, Thank you Jimmy. Heaven is a happier place with you there!

Bob Dylan said this song and "He Went to Paris" are examples of why he (Dylan) chooses Jimmy Buffett as one of America's best songwriters. Let that sink in. Thanks, Jimmy, for decades of great tunes and the optimism mixed with reality you exemplify. Your tunes have been the rudder of my life- (combined with John Prine, JJ Cale, etc. -to keep it real.)

Jimmy’s introspective songs IMO are his finest work. This ranks as one of his best, alongside He Went To Paris, Tin Cup Chalice, Something So Feminine. His literary influences are immeasurable sources for how he learned to develop his style and find his own voice. From a 40+ year parrot head, thanks for a lifetime soundtrack to life, good times, stories and reflection. I can proudly say I became a fan as a first year teenager when Come Monday became a hit and was regularly played on radio back in the day. Grateful thnx Delaney for the 1:1 deeper dives into your dad’s catalog. You’ve been blessed to have such a wonderful teacher of life for a dad.

Years ago, I saw Fingers Taylor do a solo show at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia ( just outside of Washington, DC). After his incredible show, he spent some time signing autographs. When it was my turn to say hi to him, I asked him real quick what Buffett tune he thought was his best. Without stopping to think for even a second, he replied “Death of an Unpopular Poet”. I think Fingers was right!

Jimmy Buffett was a true poet and who could color his thoughts with wonderful music. He was not unknown, as I bet every person, fan or not, would recognize his work. I’m talking anywhere in the world. His work was subtle but quite extensive. I think eventually he will be recognized as a cultural icon of the best kind. He’s not unknown. He’s an artist whose music and his message will live for many generations. It’s 5 O’clock somewhere in heaven; his rightful place.

Man… this was written in ‘73. “Come Monday” finally hit in 1974, launching Jimmy’s career into the mainstream. About 10 years later on Letterman he said the success of Come Monday kept him from killing himself. “Death of an Unpopular Poet” was almost a song about Jimmy. Instead, we got 50 wonderful years of his most proficient talents.

I sure wish I had fulfilled my dream of seeing him in concert, I just love his music. His music has been a part of every aspect of my life, I can't think of a time it wasn't a part of my journey. When I met my now husband back in college, Jimmy's music was one of the things that bonded us, he often sang "Come Monday" to me. I can still remember seeing the ocean for the first time in late 70s and hearing Margaritaville on the radio and thinking how the music sounded just like the feeling I got from being on the beach. I was hooked! My heart is just broken over losing such an incredible storyteller and musician that can transport all of us to beautiful far away places with just a song. So grateful we have those songs to hold us until we join him on those distant shores. Listening to Radio Margaritaville on Saturday I actually heard one that I was not familiar with and has become a new mantra "Someday I Will". Thank you Jimmy for leaving us your gift of song to enrich our life journeys. We will miss you.

At this age I see a precious father who happens to be one of the premier poets and musicians of the last 50 years. I love the live shows and parties, but this series is real, mistakes and all.. a Day in the life would also be nice. A back stage tour of the green room and an explanation of what it takes to pull of a show by your dad would also be entertaining. I love your dads interviews.

Ms Delaney, thank you so much for bringing the personal side of your dad out for all of us that would like nothing other than to sit casually and small talk with this great man. Like many I suppose, I have been along for the ride for 40 years, and have enjoyed the “B Side” songs more than any. It is in those songs we can hear the stories, the friends and exploration of wonderful places most will never see or know of. The world was different 40 years ago, the world was a unexplored treasure your dad brought to life. I always wanted to me him, not for an autograph, but to simply shake his hand and say thanks. This is so difficult to write and I truly wish I would never have too. Best wishes to your family, friends and dogs, your father will be missed by the entire world. RIP Jimmy Buffett
