James Cameron... Callin out Jimmy for Tax Avoidance... ffs... watch this shit... you'll laugh ur head off... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-np_ylvc8Zj8.html
I think he's secretly Jimmy's conscience come to life, it's almost like if Jimminy Cricket became human and ditched Pinocchio for a ventriloquist doll.
He got caught twice (2011 and 2016). He handled it very well. For what it's worth, I think he just used legal loopholes so he didn't actually break the law. But it was in bad taste and he paid up and apologized. The irony is David Cameron called him out on it then, time past, and Cameron and his family were shown to avoid taxes in the Panama papers.
I always got the impression it was his accountant who did the majority of it. From what Jimmy's said, his account asked him if he wanted to reduce his tax rate, he said yes, and I take it that from there it was his accountant who did everything else.
@@jacob_90s I like Jimmy and I have no idea if what you said is even true, but if so, as an adult you can’t blame your accountant. It’s up to you to know what they’re doing with your money. That’s like trying to use the Nuremberg defense nowadays of, “I was just following orders.” It won’t work and will make everyone dislike you for not owning up but trying to pass blame.
@@isabellaangeline2175 This is where I'm genuinely conflicted. On the one hand, I agree that Jimmy probably should have had a bit more oversight on what was happening with his money, especially since it could have been possible that his accountant was stealing from him and it sounds like Jimmy wouldn't have known it. But on the other hand, you typically hire a professional when it's an area you're not experienced enough in, and they are. This is where I have to (respectfully) disagree with your analogy to the Nuremberg defense. I think a better one would be that if you went to see a doctor, or if you hired an engineer, you are expected to know when they're doing something illegal or performing a procedure incorrectly, and if they do something wrong, not only are you not allowed to seek damages from them, but you are on the hook for what they did. So again, I do feel conflicted, but I do have to lean towards siding with Jimmy at least some what.
@@isabellaangeline2175 tbf he didnt blame his accountant for what was a legal but immoral affair. in fact he said that he didnt put any thought into it which was wrong of him
One of the things I like about Jimmy Carr is that he is very selfaware and will accept as good as he gives out. Paul Merton or Harry Enfield for example would have been off in a huff.
Jimmy Carr letting everyone mocking him (and even making fun of himself) is what saved his public persona. Here in France, our "most well-known comedian" was Gad Elmaleh, everybody loved him. He got caught for tax evasion and for stealing jokes... He never recovered. Now everything he does ridiculously fails. Wanna know why ? Because he NEVER made a joke about it. He even forbidden everyone in the profession to joke about it. Way to look like a fool.
@@vincentistria5495 Stealing jokes alone tends to be a death sentence for most comedians regardless and rightly so I suppose. In terms of staying a comedian I'd say that's the more relevant of the two. In terms of being a decent human I'd say it's a draw.
Interesting. As of course he was trying to get away with paying just 1%!!! tax and put the other 99% into various offshore accounts whilst wobbling his head cockily!
@@jimmythemadostrich8947 he didn't try to get away with it, he got away with it since he never did anything against the law and never ended up paying the avoided taxes. Prompting English lawmakers to adjust the laws.
That was a great move from Jimmy. He get some good comedians to roast him heavily straight after the story broke. He looked visibly disheveled and sad. He took 100% of the blame. His P.R. advisor obviously much better than his accountant.
He also paid in full every penny without complaint, did a lecture on why it's immoral to avoid paying your fair share, admitted to what he had done immediately without trying to claim it wasn't true, and apologized deeply to his country. He made things right, even going above and beyond what was expected of him, to make sure that any harm he caused was forgiven.
@@chrismanuel9768 And he did all that because he was caught cheating if he had not have been caught he would have been still stealing from the government.
@@mikeh7694 What if we all followed the Jimmy Carr method of paying taxes soon the country would be bankrupt and devoid of ways to maintain essential services, the country he chose to live in has a set method of calculating how much tax each individual pays, he is aware of that he gets paid enormous sums of money and he could go and live some where else but because that same country is his benefactor he decided to remain but still found the need to cheat the system, so in answer to your question, no i would not.
@@PatrickKelly-lz3pv oh, you really think he's doing his taxes himself? He's got accountant that does it for him so he doesn't have to study thousands of complex legal papers. He could've been told "you can pay less taxes if you just sign this and this" and he didn't care how it works because that's what he hired accountant for in the first place. But he could've also known how it's working since day one. just wanted to show other possible way of things
No matter how bad you insult Jimmy, he just takes it, gotta give him credit for being able to do that... Besides, he's probably said something worse than anything anyones said to him.
Honestly I was expecting to go “nahhh...” and then keep going but was interrupted by Micky before he could. You could be right tho, that was just the vibe I got
Jon Richardson was actually really hurt by the whole affair and took some weeks to forgive Jimmy. He said as much in interviews. He wanted to change the topic because he was really angry and didn't want to ruin the mood
@@chrismanuel9768 Yeah you can tell he was quite annoyed by the ordeal. It's apparent when he's doing his speech about "there's not enough money in the pot, and one of the reasons that there's not enough money in the pot, is because not everyone pays their tax.
The sad part about Jimmy's Tax situation is that he broke no laws. Rich people paid politicians to write the tax code with those loopholes so the rich people could avoid paying taxes. The only reason Jimmy got caught is he is in the limelight, there were probably a few thousand other rich people who abused the same loophole and didn't get caught.
So glad you made this! But I stand by one of my comments on an earlier video about making a compilation across cats, cats countdown and your face or mine. You can probably make a compilation as long as an episode. Thanks for this though.
You know what? He may have did wrong, but he took this really well. He realised what he did was wrong and had no problem letting people joke about it. I think that saved his career.
@@menheerMaytrap I know this is from 6 months ago but I'm curious how you know about Jimmy asking Sean to go hard on him? If Jimmy mentioned it in a podcast or something I'd love to give that a listen
What's kind of eerie in a funny sort of way was the fact that in 2006 Jimmy was in the movie 'Stormbreaker' where he played the role of a man who worked for a bank.
Jimmy has taken A LOT of shit for the tax situation, and rightfully so, but he’s handled it with grace and aplomb and has never once made excuses. That’s how you show that you’re truly sorry and you know you made a mistake - not by some empty social media post or RU-vid video where you blame others for them being upset that you dared do something they don’t agree with.
Jimmy Carr being savaged for tax evasion reminds me of that episode of Have I Got News for You the week after the original host Angus Deaton got caught with cocaine and hookers and the two team captains just went to town on him all episode
😂😂😂😂 white police tent with his laptop in clear bag..too funny...many a true word in jest. His laoptop is no doubt a horror show..gary glitter, jimmy saville style
