self depracating humour is a huge part of British culture mostly for the middle and lower working classes, we tend not to take ourselves too seriously and are more interested in having a good laugh than any potential ego bruising

Here in America avoiding taxes is just normal, wouldn't even be a scandal. As long as you're not breaking the law, a rich man having a tax shelter is just good business. It amazes us that this is even such a thing, but it's fun. I like the jokes.

I wasn't sure if he meant, on net after paying the tax he made no money, or if he meant that the scheme was so bad that he barely made any money from it, and then he still got in trouble and had to pay it back even though it wasn't that much money. For someone in Jimmy's position probably £50k counts as nothing compared to the effort involved.

We all should. The rich should pay their fair share of tax..... Tax avoidance schemes and worse tax evasion schemes allow the rich to pay a significantly lower % on their earnings than the poor. Many services including the NHS represent a safety net for people in need.
