Nonsense. Jimmy Choo was already successful before Tamara Mellon & Sandra Choi joined the company. Jimmy Choo opened his shop in 1988. After seeing his creations at London Fashion Week in 1988, Vogue featured the shoes in an eight-page spread. He gained patronage from Diana, Princess of Wales in the early 1990s. Then, Tamara Mellon joined Jimmy Choo in 1996.
Jimmy Choo was cobbler not a designer. Sandra Choi has a sister, Lucy Choi who also went in the shoe trade designing and selling them but her company went bust. Jimmy Choo is now the Creative Director of The Atelier , a ready to wear evening and occasion wear brand for women established in Malaysia owned by his nephew. They have just opened a store around Hyde Park (18 Connaught Street) and is managed by his daughter, Emily. Tamara Mellon, of the Sassoon family was the brain behind Jimmy Choo and has to be credited for building the brand. Jimmy Choo now still has his couture shoemaking practice which trades under his real Chinese-Malaysian name.
Bla bla bla female empowerment and all that but give credit where its due. Jimmy made a name for himself with nary $50 in his pocket when he first landed in the US. This whole video is a bad take.
