Rising rates, sticky inflation and the prospect of slowing consumer spending have sparked a flurry of deals in the fashion industry as companies look to mergers and acquisitions for growth. The trend of fashion consolidation among U.S.-based brands is mirroring the pattern of LVMH in Europe, a mega fashion brand that has aggressively expanded via acquisitions.
Watch the video above to learn more about the trends fueling fashion's merger mania.

Or, maybe we should stop thinking infinite growth is possible and then none of these companies would feel the need to merge as long as their niches remain healthy.

Unfortunately this is an underlying business/account assumption that continued growth is always expected. Further, stock markets are forward looking, meaning any change in tragectory will hurt stock prices and increase cost of capital amoung other negatives.

totally, companies only afloat from constant cash injections from investors, rising stocks, or survival off loans alone, and then expecting growth every year, is pure insanity to me. Stock and shareholders are the reason [i think] that these crazy expectations exist that every company needs to delivery growing numbers every year, why? only to effect stocks, which at the end of the day does not matter in reality. Stocks are gambling, and those who risk their excess money gambling should NOT determine what companies accomplish or measure as success. Companies need to get back to serving customers and humanity, not the rich who gamble in the market.

Pretty soon every company in every sector will have its own "Big 3" corporations that own the hundreds, or even thousands of smaller companies and/or brands. It's actually a disgrace. I wish companies wouldn't sell out, so that they can keep on their exact desired path, rather than having to listen to new board members and owners under an umbrella.

yes constant growth in a company is generally not possible forever, yet publicly traded corps have to serve shareholders above all else, above the customer, above humanity. But stocks are a gambling system and not reality, so of course the gamed system is not compatible with real life economies and actual people. So these guys are scared to lose the game, even though if they didnt have to play the game they would be perfectly fine for decades...

This massive consolidation is the end of capitalism. The result will be a monopoly where a single company controls the price of a specific sector, but the average consumer will be unaware. The lack of real competition will result in high prices but a reduction in quality. The high prices we see around us are not a result of inflation but consolidation in other sectors. For example, Nestle owns over 2k companies worldwide, which the consumer thinks are competing for your dollar, but are not because they are buddies. As the consumer, regardless of which brand you choose, your dollar will end up in the same bank account. Nestle has no incentive to lower prices. The same thing is happening in fashion now…

The luxury industry looks like it is hihgly profitable, this is only true though for the top performers in the industry. That does not necessarily mean you have to be big, look at Moncler for example, compared to LVMH they are small, but highly desired and therefore profitable.

I bought a LV "gym" bag; I was expecting so much more it was a super thin cotton canvas. I imagined that their bags were lined, but they are not. Then, the vaccheta leather started cracking. And that was it for the "luxury" sector. I bought a Coach weekender bag; solid and sturdy glove tanned leather, heavy nylon lining, thick coated canvas. The quality is much better.

Sorry but am i the only one who thinks that people wearing luxury brands are superficial and fake? Especially in the business, if I am the buyer I will not go with people who wears LV, Prada, Chanel etc...they need to get their priorities straight

I would go out with people wearing brands because I would not even recognise brands. It's that stupid.

They have no taste. If they do, they won't stunt on others with logo plastered luxury items.

Yea I mean honest most people I actually see wearing this stuff are really broke and just trying to pretend like they’re rich; same people who live in a double wide with a brand new Mercedes in the driveway. Priorities lol

Oh I love discreet luxury and people who can appreciate craftsmanship and good quality that doesn't scream $$.. so timeless and tasteful.
