That's not the same "Sandy" whose his 'Go, Johnny Go !' (1959) singer co-star Sandy Stewart who also has a lovely voice on her hits back then, Heavenly Father,Up Above & Playmate ? In tonight interview with legendary WABC DJ, "Cousin Brucie" he mentioned when he was recording an album session in 1958, the keyboard player was Dick Holler ( don't know if it was the same one who later wrote Abraham, Martin and John, both hits for Blues singer, Big Mama Thornton & Dion's last big hit of his in 1968)
Jimmy lived in and was a disk jockey at the same radio station here in my hometown from 1972-1976, that I hung out at as a young teenager 10 years earlier here in Columbia, Pennsylvania.. I cannot believe I was so busy working all the time, in addition to having fun, that I never knew he was here, otherwise I would have surely met him.. and maybe hung out at the station with him a few times.
Love this song. I was 11 when it came out. I recall all the neighbors gathering on each others back porches and taking turns singing along with their favorites on the radio. When it was my turn, I sang along with this song. One of the moms who was inside preparing snacks for the kids steeped outside who see who was singing. Then she told me, “ you can really sing , you really can “. One of my early happiest memories in my youth. I have loved this song ever since !
Amazing, we did the same thing as kids except we sang songs we had memorized! Using an old wash tub for drums, a washboard for guitars & Lord knows what else..that’s all my memory remembers. Thanks for sharing!
I remember when this song came out if I am right on the year 1962. I can still remember hearing this song in our living room listening to the countdown on KJR Seattle.
Jimmy Clanton born September 2, 1938 is celebrating his 84th birthday today, Sepember 2nd, 2022. He is an American singer who became known as the "swamp pop R&B teenage idol". His band recorded a hit song "Just a Dream" which Clanton had written in 1958 for the Ace Records label. It reached number four on the Billboard chart and sold a million copies. Clanton performed on Dick Clark's American Bandstand and toured with popular artists like Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis and the Platters. "Venus in Blue Jeans" reached #7 on the Billboard Top-100 chart in October 2nd, 1962. UPDATE: He just celebrated his 86th birthday on September 2nd, 2024
His soul was moved! You can tell by the way he was dancing, even if choreographed. You either have it or you don't and he has it in spades!! Thank Jimmy and thank you God for Jimmy and his gift!!!
He said that even in an interview back in 1999. The story goes he wrote this song and composed; and did it with the fans in mind. But there’s a problem he goes on to say that you can’t tell the producers what songs you want and what your fans wanted to hear. He said the producer was carol king from the song oh carol from Neil steka. And he was a real pickle with this song. It’s a sad story your singing for you of course but more so for your fans not the producers
@@christinab.2864 Jimmy Clanton did not write "Venus In Blue Jeans." Howard Greenfield and Jack Keller did. Carol King was the studio arranger and insisted on using the horns for this, the 3rd recording of the day, the "throw away song" (or we'll use it if we need it). With nothing else having been recorded, this was the only song available for distribution after Jimmy's time in service. They put it out and it was a huge hit. @@oldfarttravels Hebrew Word - יראָה - Yirah- Fear Have you ever watched a sunrise or a sunset and stood in awe? Have you ever camped under the Milky Way and been in awe of the night sky and the sheer number of stars? If you're a parent, I bet you're still in awe of the miracle of childbirth. The Hebrew word we translate as "awe" is yirah, which means "respect, reverence, and worship." But, yirah also means "fear." It's the word used in Proverbs 9:10, which reads, "The fear (yirah) of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom." I grew up thinking "fear the Lord" meant to be afraid of Him--to be scared. I was never quite sure what I was supposed to be afraid of, so I assumed it was because He could crush me at any moment (which is true, I guess, but I had a feeling that was not it). When you watch a sunset or stand on the shore of an ocean, you don't feel fear- you feel awe and reverence. You feel yirah. Having the type of awe and reverence for God that motivates you to do His will is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge. Do you fear the Lord that way? - David Abamson
I performed in an oldies show at MSG in Manhattan with Jimmy, truly nice down to earth dude, the instrumentation on his songs were right on, trumpets and all, enjoyed his performance.
I watched him on a Leave it to Beaver episode this morning. He was the nerdy new kid till Eddie Haskle couldn't get the record player going at a party...turned out he was a terrific piano player
Great and memorable AB performance by Jimmy. Never tire of watching and listening to it. Do wish we had though for a moment, and for posterity, a close-up of audience, especially guys and gals sitting in front row.
It was my understanding Carole King was involved in the decision to have the trumpets play in the background ending. A wise choice! Thanks for the memories, Jimmy!
We all have special fantasies , Cindy Williams from Laverne & Shirley was an angel that seems so special . Humorous. What a doll. Always hope one day I might meet her. RIP Cindy,,,,gone to Heaven. Never let time slip before we get right with Jesus and God. Such innocence. ,,,she knew God ,,keep us laughing forever. Such a sweetheart

The British invasion kind of changed the "old sound" music preferences of people.. I am so tired of the hearing Beatile's music and much prefer the old sounds of the 50's and 60's minus the Bristish bands.

Saw him with the then current make-up of 'The Crystals ( Dolores "Dee Dee" Kinabrew) & The Skyliners, etc at Denver's historic (1930) Paramount Theatre in the mid-2010s. Has a autobio book on his & other retail sites. 'From A Singer to a Servant of God'. As stated on Cousin Brucie 77 WABC NYC radio show tonight.
I heard this songs played on most radio's stations, and I says too m...self Mr Frankie alvon...why's waited so longs, too songs this songs, titled Venus n...blue jeans, it's...a wonderful hits, those times also I heard sames songs agained, this times I turned on the televisions, and I saw this artisited, named Jimmy clanton, he's individ...who's songs his, both artisited Frankie avonl, have's similarities, vocals, also not shocking too me, on radio's can't saw individ...artisited, faced only interviewed, talked showed, televisitioned,
Wonderful song and artist. Guess there wasn't enough room on the stage next to Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, Fabian, Bobby Vinton and Bobby Darin... (Too many Bobby's ) Shame, cause Jimmy had it too, great looks-smile and voice, could have been more then a " one hit wonder" another was Danny Williams - White on white....catchy tune.
Ryan, you are misinformed! With 3 Top 10 Hits, 7 Top Forty Hits, 11 Charted songs in the Top 100, and with a career that is still going internationally as well as nationally after 60+ years, Jimmy Clanton is hardly a one hit wonder. And he still has the looks, the smile and the voice!
This comment is a response to Sewing with La Wayne. I tried to submit my response in the way of a reply, but the "algorithm" would not allow it. A message came on the screen saying "an error occurred". So here is my reply: Number One: I'm not a girl. Number Two: Was Not "Mad" nor "screaming", but I was Exasperated. JESUS stood on The High ground overlooking Jerusalem lamented that after he preached, did miracles and showed them how to Look at life and to Live it, that they just did not get it. I Pray that someday you Will, out of a ❤️ of Love, Your Friend, "Morris" ✝️👍🏼❗
