S &H green stamps .Back in the 50's and esrly 60's when you went to the grocey store you wouyld get stamps based on how much you spent. You pasted them in a book and when you filled up books you get a reward, For example. for three books of stamps you get a toaster.

My mom bought me a pair of binoculars using green stamps about 60 years ago..Also they had yellow stamps where usually received at grocery stores

That opening scene always makes me angry. All Chuck did was steal a newspaper. He wasn't threatening anyone. The excessive force those cops used was ridiculous.

I think some artistic licence was used to speed things up. Even though the theft was minor, they had grounds but really would not likely go in. But after seeing the exposed wiring and flammable liquids in addition to the potential mental health history of Chuck given by the witness on top of the probable cause for the theft, they could articulate exigent circumstances to protect life and property. Of course that could/would be challenged after the fact. In reality they would most likely have conveyed all that to a supervisor and got a warrant a/o mental health team or other city ordinance to deal with the unsafe conditions.
