I love how Doug's desire to understand is so much greater than his desire to not seem dumb. Which I think is super helpful but it's crazy how he doesn't care about being wrong he cares about people being too nice to correct him

the disapproval of dale on the description of what you're supposed to do to espresso is great.

Honestly, I really like these episodes where you make industrial machines and processes (and even process improvements) look interesting. You guys do a great job filming and editing these in a visually interesting way that tells the story to a non technical audience.

Jimmy Johns Italian sub and Jersey Mike's Club sub, can't go wrong with either of them.

I truly enjoy episodes with Dale. Having Dale assess possible process machinery is even better. Dale putting up with the monkey-shines of the peanut gallery and doing his VERY BEST DAD impressions is ***THE*** reason to watch wyrm lyfe. That man has the patience of a saint and probably has ulcers.

Every episode with Dale the 1000 yard stare he gives Doug gets more like he has WWII PTSD flashbacks and he gets another grey hair

I love Dale's look of infinite fatherly patience while Doug's bragging about his boredom tolerance; it's the master watching the brag-full junior student. Do not try to quote the ancient magic to Dale! Also like any engineer, when buying a product he's able to keep his cards close to the vest. Unfortunately since we don't have his reaction from CEFLA, we can't judge which he likes more, but my gut says that he feels Superfici is just an average finish. Quick production/process question: When you start up finishing in Mass. are you going to go full dust-free bunny suit production environment? Would love to see Doug, Jason, and Bobby suited up while they check the line. 😇

Never had Jimmy Johns so I can't compare the two. My question is how much overspray is going to accumulate on the sprayer head itself and what would be required to clean it. I can just imagine 6 months down the road that sprayer gets all clogged up and it would take 2 months to get a service guy to come and clean/repair it. Also, what if the sprayer gets damaged? How much would it cost to fix it? How long would it take to get replacement parts and/or a service guy to repair it? Is there enough power to install/operate a new spray machine or does Dale need to upgrade the electricity again? Things to consider.....

I've had both. Jersey Mike's any day and all day sunday. Jimmy Jon's when you need to trow fuel down for a short lunch.

Firehouse Subs is king for sandwich shops. Their philanthropy and commitment to community is the best. The pickles are also the best of any sub shop.

It's always a local shop with great bread from a local bakery over any of those chain sub shops. But that's only because I worked in one for a number of years. Also the lack of variance in Italians always bugs me because there's lots of good ways to make an Italian sub and most of them involve prosciutto which none of the big boys use. but if you held a gun to my head - Jimmy Johns

I have only had jersey mikes once and I never had Jimmy Johns so I cant make a comparison but my favorite sub shop is Firehouse Subs

Jimmy Johns hot peppers are to die for. More importantly, Jimmy John's bread is made same day and they sell any leftover bread for 45 cents to consumers the next day. But seriously I would buy an entire jar of Jimmy John's peppers.

The lesson (that should have been) learned from their previous purchases of machines like these is to talk up other companies that have purchased these machines and ask them what issues they have run into since installation, what the customer service has been like, and so on. Don't blunder into another M&T!

Jimmy John's and Jersey Mikes are both solid. Though JJ has a special place in my heart because back in the day as a poor college student, you could buy day old bread for .50 and a can of Dr. Pepper for .50 and have "lunch" to fill you up for the time being because you didn't properly schedule a lunch. For real though, always enjoy the editing and the episodes. Especially loved the Pokemon and their cries involved.

Hertz is great if you have their loyalty program... then you just go out to the board, see your name, go to the section, and go. You don't have to wait in line... it's awesome.

also, if we're going by sandwich shops, I've never had a jersey sub, but I like me a jimmy john's sub. the beach club [i think it's called I haven't been there in a bit since I work from home.] it was the number 12. mayo, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, turkey, chese, avo, cheese. [I also worked there in high school so I remember most of the subs I used to make. LoL]

Honestly looking at the sub companies alone, Jimmy Johns is cheaper and delivers their subs much quicker (their motto is "freaky fast") because they have more limited ingredients. Jersey Mike's is expensive, but you have more selection and flavor. I think I'll go out and get some Jersey Mike's today, I've been craving a Chipotle Steak and Cheese.

Also I would like to say Doug that Espresso is actually supposed to be ate with cake in Italy, the sweet cake/pastry balances out the bitterness of the espresso. Drinking Espresso raw with no sweetness to follow up with is uh... not recommended.

Used to be a Jersey Mike's fanatic and then they stopped selling the meatball sub and broke my heart. Jimmy John's doesn't have a meatball sub but I think they only serve cold sandwiches so they get a pass. Jersey Mike's still makes other hot subs and due to this, they don't get the same pass for hurting me like they did.

Firehouse Subs > Jimmy Johns > Jersey Mike's > > > > > Subway So, the first company focused the overspray onto the paper conveyor belt with their air flow and the second just says fuck it and covers the walls with sticky paper you peel off after it gets too nasty. Depending on the usage, I think the sticky paper on the walls would be less waste overall though it would take a bit more labor to swap out. The paper rolls would fill up the dumpsters you used to pitch your cutoffs/chips into (contaminated/flammable paper rolls). Aside from the technology they each used, I was hoping y'all would circle back on Ian's questions about the constructed rail geometry or if the machines couldn't handle them.

I haven't ate at either place but found where my closest are. Jimmys is 20 minutes away but Jersey Mikes is over an hour. Definitely want to try both though. I love pickles too, but glad Ian and Dale are making the final decision.

don't take sandwich advice from someone who puts sugar in their espresso kids. Jersey Mikes is by far the better sandwich place. Mike is apparently the only thing to come out of jersey that's good.

Jersey Mikes has the edge in quantity, but Jimmy Johns quality usually wins out, in my area at least. O.o

Jersey Mike's has better sandwiches with a lot more option. Jimmy John's sandwiches are a lot simpler, which lets them make it a lot quicker, but the pickle spears and cookies are great sides. So to me, it's either the better sandwich (Mike's) or the better, quicker meal (JJ's).
