+Anthony Coe Yeah, he always used two Leslies whenever possible. I saw him in Chicago and got to speak to him and he was angry at Joe, the owner of the Jazz Showcase in Chicago, because he provided he a C-3 and one Leslie :-) Show was still great!
loved Jimmy McGriff's playing since I was a teen...had much influence on my own Hammond organ playing...got to see him perform at Dimitrios Jazz Alley in Seattle several times with Hank Crawford and had a chat with him at break time...this was in the early '90's...when I lived out there '88-'98...
I get the feeling he might be splitting his signal between the Leslie in the rear left, and that Marshall Stack. I've not gotten an organ to break up like that through just a Leslie. He is as rhythmically as funky as any organist I know. Just friggin' greasy.
I was lucky and caught McGriff in Chicago at the Jazz Showcase, around 2000. I had a CD of his in my jacket and got Griff and whole band to sign it on their break. Memorable night. Jimmy wasn't happy because the Jazz Showcase gave him a Hammond C-3 and ONE Leslie, instead of his usual setup at the time of a B-3 and TWO Leslie cabinets. Still was a great gig. Love the video you posted here, thanks again! Jimmy forever!
He was probably more upset about not having the twin Leslies, but the C-3 (Church) is the same internals as the B-3 (Bar :-)). It's a great video with a lot of Mr. McGriff's signature playing. Thanks for posting,
I don't speak French, but it seems like the announcer introduces the tune as "The Sermon", This is a tune called, "Keep Loose" from the album The Worm. Since it is not written anywhere either, thought I'd provide the missing info for interested parties. Jimmy McGriff forever!

+rene trossman Thanks! I never actually got to see the man live so it was great to get my hands on this clip. But Blue Mitchell did a gig for me (a double header with Red Holloway would you believe) around the early mid-70's - when I had a jazz club in Liverpool UK. The music was great then!!
The Hammond B3 is legendary and JIMMY SMITH owned it. But JIMMY McGRIFF is in its own different league when it comes to funky. JIMMY McGRIFF is my all-time fav when jazz meets soul/funk, this man can play those funky keys on the Hammond like no one else could or can!!!
One of the crunchier rigs. Organ grinder indeed. Love it. Fascinating video with the Marshall stack. And what is that cab behind the drummer? Looks like 9 speakers in that thing.
Slippery fast funky slick phkrasing over an excellent shufflin high stepping swing groove poppin fresh as fuck it's a pressure cookin locomotive that is why he named it keep loose.
