I have thought for years that LZ needed a rhythm guitarist in the band to add those extra guitar parts for their live shows. Rhythm guitar add the HARMONY needed to support the progressionsions that propel the music. Those parts are on the recordings, but they're impossible for Jimmy to play while playing the lead parts. You can hear how THIN the live recordings are compared to their studio recordings without the other guitar parts.

There are a lot of comments that are down on the singing of Chris Robinson VS Plant but I think Chris is a great singer and I respect the fact he did his own take on the Zeppelin tunes, you can tell he known the songs but he does not do a Plant impression like a lot of singers would.

Watching Jimmy Page play his 1959 Les Paul Standard so softly, and with such a deft touch is a real treat. A master musician with one of the finest instruments produced -- not bad.
@JU5TINPDX
@JU5TINPDX 2 года назад
Agreed, it’s a beautiful relationship… a virtuoso and their instrument. I saw Page and Plant in 1998, I was only 17 but I knew I was seeing two legends, but I didn’t realize at the time that a third legend was in Jimmy’s hands almost the entire show. That 59’ LP sunburst is probably the most valuable electric guitar on this planet. Even without any relation to Page or any other rock star it’s worth high 6 figures, even 1 million+… but the fact that it was the number one weapon for the bulk of the ultimate guitar god’s career… yeah $$$$$

interesting thought experiment..I am not sure which one I would like to own..probably the ‘59 Les Paul just bc of its attachment to Joe Walsh and of course Jimmy Page..I would suggest that Page’s no. 1 would fetch close to $2M if the right baby boomer was interested..that is the thing..not sure the younger generations appreciate vintage guitars bc of the lack of guitar driven music today..but unfortunately time will tell…

As much as I love Robert Plant, he wasn't consistently hitting his old range even before the band had to break up. So it's just as valid for any halfway decent performer to hit pretty much all the notes Plant himself is capable of hitting at the point in time of this video

A truly powerful song ,and IMO one of two ( In the Light) that really benefited by having the full compliment of multi tracked guitar parts played live. It's a shame that Jimmy's collaboration with the Black Crows couldn't have lasted abit longer.

The best part about this performance is Jimmy Page enjoying himself just as much as he did with Zep in the 70s, a huge compliment to the Crowes themselves. Steve Gorman really channels Bonzo on this one and you can tell Jimmy really enjoys it. It's just like having Bonzo and Jonesy there in person. That is no small feat to accomplish so the Crowes rhythm section can proud of that fact.

And however gifted he is at playing, his true genius lies in conception. He actually thought of this shit. It’s like how many people can play parts of Beethoven’s 9th, but Beethoven wrote that complex shit. How do things like that even come out of a persons mind? It’s a level of genius far beyond my understanding. I’m happy to just sit back in ignorant bliss, and listen!

Black Crows and Jimmy Page are banging em out here I can't get enough of em. Everytime I'm on RU-vid I'm drawn to listen to this whole wheel of songs. It takes me back three decades in time and only makes me want more. I can't really say I miss Robert Plant except for his young hot body which isn't anymore, but neither is mine, lol!! I'M not too shabby, but besides that Classic Rock And Roll was born in my soul and it's where I'll go when I leave here, where all the musics being blasted... Ill stand in line to hear all the young souls taken from us too soon like Bon Scott, Curt Cobaine, Jimmy Hendrix ext. Ronald Belford Scott was meeting me beyond his grave there for a while, it no way freaked me out at all I loved it all so much I really couldn't get enough of it. My nickname is the Night Prowler we were prowing together there for a while... RIP BON💜

The crowes have attempted recently to follow more a jamband strategy. I noticed you mentioned in 01 the crowes had an opening act. I wonder if since then the crows followed the trail the dead created long ago and dropped opening act and went to a 2set formula with no help?

@@iomibestlefty phish does that too. To great effect
@iomibestlefty
@iomibestlefty 3 года назад
@@flightofthebumblebee9529 phish wisely used the deads formula identically with evrything except their sound. And recently so many others have attempted same trail. Give weir and garcia immense credit for building a product that was exempt from the industry crisis of the internet's creation. A crisis that rapidly dismantled an entire gandra of music. In fact the internet destroyed the most important and successful art in american and possibly world history. Rock and roll was dealt the most tragic blow imaginable. A blow that tugged directly at its heartstrings. Money!!! Money is what was behind all of it. Money was the core of it all!!! Why else would a record label or band invest fortunes into ultra expensive studio time and production costs as well as massive time investment by not only band but also a full team of top earning specialists necessary to complete recording? massive investment that always had risk of failure but also had endless payoff potential. It's not a matter of industry mysteriously and suddenly losing all its talent. It's a matter of by taking away the money, entrenched artists being forced out and new artists no hope whatsoever. The dead however worked the opposite side of industry. The live side that before internet was much less profitable than records and much much more work. But quickly the internet turned that ship around and suddenly the only money left in rock is live shows. And those artists who wisely followed the golden road paved by the dead are rapidly becoming rocks only viable bands. You mentioned phish. Same can be said of dave mathews. And dead and co are easily the top 3earning acts in rock today. And even smaller acts such as widespread panic and string cheese incident and many others have become much more viable and have much more upside than most all other rock acts. The stones and a few others wont last long but phish and dave will!!!!
