Jimmy is the greatest gypsy guitarist I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a few. Wow pure fire his improvisation is super melodic and spontaneous and performed with such ease at breakneck speed !!!
Thank God Frank Vignola said more at 1:36, Jimmy's guitar playing is not human, then you have Frank Vignola, RIP Joe Ascione, completely beyond human playing by all ❤❤❤the playing is completely chaotic at 2:07 and Jimmy is laughing. Divine playing by all!
I Luv Ascione's playing with Frank on "Nobody Else But Me" album with "All My Tomorrow"s '1959' Jimmy Van Heusen/Sammy Cahn Rembrandt wrote for Sinatra & all der songs for Mr. S. 'Quickly became American Songbook gold nuggets
Amazing players...still active today and playing better than ever...all except Joe the drummer. He passed away this year way too young. A fantastic talent and a real loss to the jazz community.
It was either ALS or MS. He struggled with it for years and played as long as he could, even modifying his grip and other things to hang it there. Nice guy, and a monster player.
Thank you for replying. Awful is all this... Such a beauty goes along with such a horror... We are just lucky to have chances to see such masterpieces. Thanks to people who post them.
This video is magic, definitely draws the line of speed capability between Jimmy and Frank,Jimmy was ripping the majority of the solo and Frank went to the chords, both equally legends non the less, and the brush work jeeesh out of this world. Love how Frank pleads Jimmy for more on the solo! They had a good vibe together
Does nobody else suspect this video to be speed up? (at least suspect)... Since i am not sure myself please leave your opinion. here's why i make the bald claim: + sometimes the picture jerks 1:00 Vignolas movements look strange 1:04 that blitz hand though... 3:09 i dont know if that speeding up here sounds natural too me. 3:36 look at jimmys hand ... + that extreme, rosenberg typical, fast arpeggiating that Jimmy does this time just doesnt look natural. + i have never seen ANYBODY, not lagrene, debarre, or stochelo himself (!) play as fast as jimmy here. at least not in that style. in the wonderful genre of manouche it is quite normal that the masters of this music give god like musical expressions, perform genius ideas and perform at a very high speed. that all gives us the feeling to witness something unreal. mostly because of the great complex ideas and the perfection in playing. In this vid we are having the feeling of seeing something unreal too, but this time i personally cant fight the feeling that part of it comes from the visual distortion... i dont suspect it to be that much faster though. what do you think? EDIT: watch from 3:20 without sound...
one thing you can say about frank vignola is he keeps perfect rhythm, even if he steals all his licks and still cant play them right. you could see jimmy showing him how to play it right, after he saw frank's attempt.
