Just in case you didn't know, the owner of this channel, mosogotam, whose real name is John Perrone, sadly passed away April 5, 2020 from COVID-19. He was an absolute genius for this and all the other wonderful tracks he created. May he rest in peace.

Jimmy's voice was second to none. But the real unsung hero's are the Funk Brothers and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra on this one. For years I always wondered what the strings sounded like isolated. When you take out the vocals, and hear the harp, the bari sax, piano, it really hits home how beautiful the track is. And I'm not a broken hearted at all, I'm just someone looking to share some light with the world and this song is al about this. Music at its most simpliest and deepest cause there are a lot of deepness in the simplicity of the words and the opposite too.
It is perfect in all of it's incarnations... Joan Osborne's version is my new favorite... but this extended version with all of the beautiful backing vocals and instrumentation ... of the original masterpiece... I'm in love all over again.

Another serious Motown piece! It seems that Jimmy serenades us with the sorrow of a love affair that ends in eternal separation. Disillusioned, he "Walks This Land of Broken Dreams." Here, he delivers his message with CONTROLLED eloquence that stirs all understanding & compassion: "I Walk In Shadows Searching For Light" and "Always Moving & Going Nowhere." This is SUPERIOR COMMAND of LYRICAL INVENTION!!
This song and most to all of the Motown music from Detroit, brings back memory's to me. These songs will never lose their luster nor their quality. Because these songs speak from the heart and from the soul. The strings at the end leave a definite mark. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, no matter what the technological advances man makes, there is no substitute to true talent of the earlier generation such as (Jimmy Ruffin)! This is Music at it's best, when you can understand every word sung!!! Mosogotam, beautiful job!!!!!!!!!!!

Always liked this song. When I got older I would concentrate on listening to the background singers. Truly a great song, great voice, great musicians and great background vocals.
I have always been fascinated by those subtle building blocks of great songs: bass lines, rhythm & keyboard riffs, horns & woodwinds, marimba & chimes, and especially those killer back-up vocals. So lovely! My wife & saw the The Counts, The Spaniels, The Dells, & The Commodores live
When ever I hear this song to this day, I was around 8 yrs old when this song was out. It reminds me of a sad situation of some neighborhood boys playing baseball in the middle of a residential street(which wasnt a busy one). I remember one of the boys getting killed accidentally by the baseball due to a head injury.
Another masterpiece remix John, of in my opinion probably the most beautiful melody from the Motown stable, certainly one of the best top 5 records, many thanks.

A fitting tribute to a beautiful person and a true gentle man, of which the world has too few. If memory serves me correctly, Jimmy donated all proceeds of his single "Soul Deep" to support families of striking British miners in the mid '80s - so, a man of conviction, deep beliefs and soul. R.I.P. Jimmy and respect to your family.

Incidentally Joan Osbourne did a wonderful cover on the tribute to the Funk Brothers film, performing it with them - that also gives me goosebumps.

Just heard Jimmy's died. Sad day for Motown fans around the world. Only 'Little' Stevie Wonder left from the classic line up of male Motown Soul Singers. Marvin Gaye, David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, (in fact all but one of the Temptations), Levi Stubbs (in fact 3 of the Four Tops, Jnr Walker, Michael Jackson... now Jimmy Ruffin RIP
This song is a classic, Jimmy Ruffin is the best singer to come out of Motown alongside the Great Levi Stubbs when I hear their voices it sends me back in time God Bless them both plus the other Tops that have also passed away God Bless Guys RIP thanks for the fabulous music you left us all Love Nige xx
Very nice; one of the best remixes I've heard. I like the acapella in the beginning, and the way you showcased the background vocals. Love the way the vocals fade out to the strings in the end. Very epic and beautiful. This would have made for some great radioplay back in the day :)
