That was a controlled burn mate, you’ll notice the under story has been burn’t and the canopy is fine. A large fire came through last summer and caused lots of damage and they have done a controlled burn next to it to square the block up. This is a good thing, providing protection to the recreation sites, promoting new growth and cleaning out all the senescing under growth.

That 2nd spot is a cracker, I'd happily stay a couple of days there even if i didn't catch a fish 😂
