The shot of Jing Yuan looking up at them right before Jingliu ended it... He looks so heart broken. He was the one who was left behind, he did nothing wrong and yet everyone he cared about was wrenched away from him... And there's no happy resolution to this, in the end, he will never get his friends back...
Jing Yuan during their prime was like the youngest of the bunch despite him being a long-life as well. They probably didn't want him to get involved because at that he was being promoted as the general.
That's what I was thinking!!! I finished both Belobog and Jingliu's quest and I was like "Hmmmm I'm having fun with March in Belobog, I hope nothing bad happened to Dan Heng" and this happened. 😂
This all made me realise how mentally strong Jing Yuan is. He went through so much shit, but didn’t lose it like his friends did. Infact he stayed strong for his people, for his Luofu and even for his friends. He stayed strong after losing his friends/family so suddenly. He worked for years to repair the damage the HCQ caused. Brought Luofu to the prosperity we see today. It is totally understandable why everyone adores Jing Yuan so much, he really is the best one out of all of them.
@@sentience3033surprised he still hasn't from all the negative things that have happened to him since Mara comes faster to those who have experienced a lot of negative things.
@@phiexi There is a reason he is living like a happy man . He is getting treatment from Bailu etc . Don’t forget that Xianzhou story is not complete yet . Xianzhou vs Yaoshi will be the end of everything
Daman Mills really nailed it at the end with Blade's speech. All the pain and anger that had been building up inside him along with his tragic past, *you could feel it with every word he said.* 😢
Frrrr, Blade's speech had tears welling up in my eyes. You can hear the pain h's been going through all these years. He's the only character I'd actually be happy for if they die. Being alive is truly painful for someone so mara-struck, he deserves to rest But also, that ripped shirt scene is kinda hot 🥴😳
@@RoverWW he might have not suffered physically, but to me his fate is still one of the worst. Despite seeing the fall of the quintet, he was the only one left to carry the legacy, to remember and forge forward and protect the Loufu. He had to see Jingliu become mara-struck, watched Blade succumb to his fate of being immortal, be the one to imprison/exile Dan Feng/Dan Heng and has no reprieve. We can still see he cares dearly for his friends as he accepted Jingliu's request, but at the end he knows he has lost what they once had, and there's no way to bring it back. And man if that mental burden isn't sad, i don't know what is.
Isn't it always like that most of the time? When your adult and make a reunion for your elementary school friends, they changed so much some even are being a bad person
God that "why is it that only the abominations can return time and time again" line. The story of the high cloud quintet is so beautifully tragic and well written. I can imagine Yingxing and Imbibitor Lunae -- having seen countless enemies of abundance evade death and return to cause chaos and destruction -- being unable to accept that Baiheng be gone forever, and committing their unpardonable sin. Plus holy hell the voice acting for all these characters is amazing, the fight choreography and animation is amazing, I love it all
They changed the story to that recently. Dan Feng sin was reviving yingxing. They changed it to her cuz of a misogynist writer. It's why the cn community is mad. The lore doesn't add up to her being the one they sinned for.
@@ofeliamartinez-lu6yttheir sin always ambiguous from beginning. No 100% confirmation dang feng's original sin is to revived yxng. It was just what fans speculated, and already accepted as fact for most fans.
@@ofeliamartinez-lu6yt Dan Feng reviving Yingxing was never confirmed. This was always speculation based on the wording of certain relic lore. The people getting mad at the "retcon" are the same people who tout headcanons as fact when the details were kept deliberately vague until the reveal.
Seeing Jingliu speak to Bailu (Baiheng) is actually the saddest part in her quest for me. Bailu is so innocent with having to be a high elder and just not understanding the depth her story really goes.
Wut ? How the hell Bailu is Baiheng ?? Huh .... now that I think about it we know from Dang Heng's mission İmbibitor Lunae 's powers go to Bailu and Dang Heng . We also learned from Jingliu's mission Yangxing and İm. Lunae did all that to resurrect Baiheng and after that Bailu born ....... Shit its really her. Well if they succeeded at least. But wasnt it they plan to use Emenator's flesh for that ? How the hell Yangxing become the flesh ... Probably Vidiyadra's transmutation tablet caused it. Why did I write all that here and answered my own questions ??
Bailu is NOT Baiheng lmao. She is a reincarnation but it isn't her. Beiheng is completely dead. she doesn't have any memories of her past. it's like basically Dan Heng and Baiheng's Child. She inherited Dan Heng's physical dragonic form since that was the experiment in order to reproduce Vidyadhara. Bai lu didn't get any memories of BaiHeng but she got her looks from her and she gained the healing powers of Dan Heng. also Blade is just thirdwheeling cuz Dan and him loved Bai Heng but Bai Heng loved Dan Heng and each other. leaving Blade as the third wheel.
@@marclenraymagdaraog691 Bailu IS Baiheng just like Dan Heng is IL. The only difference is she has no recollection of her memories from her past life. The argument can be made Dan Heng is not IL either but it doesn't matter. That is Bailu's backstory and I am done arguing over a gacha game.
@@HeWhoShamsthere was a hint and text about Jing Yuan asking Bailu multiple times if she ever had any dream or recollection about her past life. It's likely after being forced into a Vidyahara rebirth and becoming a monster. It completely serves the memories. Bailu is just Baiheng without memories which makes her a completely different person. Meanwhile other Vidyahara such as the one from side quest and Dan Heng still partially retain their memories.
@@TheZombie2415 Agreed. I thonk Bailu being a foxian also had a major part in her amnesia... Also can't forget it's hinted that Jingliu killed a monster that was Baiheng before being born into Bailu
Considering this is still a Honkai game, years from now one day in a future Story quest, Blade will finally get the death he so badly wants and it will make us cry so much 😢
I feel bad for them... especially Blade and Jing. Jing Yuan looks like he's about to cry when his friends are fighting then there's Blade's POV that broke me😭
Damn, they did them both justice in this one companion quest. Blade actually showed emotion and character, not just a crazy maniac that wants to die. Jingliu as the best swordmaster of Loufu has been justified, as she was hyped in the game for so long to be the strongest of them all and she indeed is. Baiheng history is so sad, she was the glue holding the group together. All of them went nuts when she died.
4 Long Living A Swordsmith that wanted to die after collaborating with a criminal and losing a dear friend A Newborn that just wanted to move on from the sins of his previous self A Sword master that slaughtered many and was unable to properly said goodbye to an ols friend for centuries And a General that watches his old comrades falls apart as he's left as the only one maintaining the peace of Loufu Yep, this Honkai. Where everyone got stab on their chest with a blunt and rusty knife and the knife just keep getting twisted instead of being pulled out
Its so sad, when you know what the feeling of watching your good friends fall apart. Just watching from Afar, not being able to change this fate. You wonder if this fate could be changed, but their is no way. Being trapped behind an invisible barrier watching them all leave or die.
@@szvkggskakg_3829kcvlacwfwf Dan Feng and Yingxing turned her into a Vidhyadhara using a flesh of the ambrosial arbor they succeeded (sorta) but it also caused a lot of consequences
I really love the companion missions in HSR, they contain really important lore and just because the quests have the picture of a character doesn't mean it will be centered around that one character
*_"We were here once, seven hundred years ago... laughing, sparring... and thinking about the future. Their faces still linger before my eyes, like a bygone dream. I thought those days would flow indefinitely before us - like a Xianzhou lifetime. Yet, dreams... will eventually fade - like clouds from the sky."_* This entire monologue feels kind of depressing when you look at the history of the High-Cloud Quintet. A group that was never meant to last, just a single member's passing was enough to collapse the entire group into chaos, one by one destroying itself. One, cursed with immortality and became mara-stricken. One, imprisoned and forced into reincarnating into Dan Heng. One, losing their sanity and slaughtering many and became mara-stuck, and the youth was forced to 'kill' their own master and witness the entire group slowly fall apart, all because of the death of one person, the foxian pilot, Baiheng.
Jing Yuan fate is one of the worst of them 5 ... He is left behind of everything, they didn't asked him to participate on Baiheng resurection, he was too young to fall to the Mara ... and he was left to handle everything. The guy had to mourn Baiheng, to deal with Blade and Dan Feng blashemy and their transformations leaving them entirely different and ... banished from the Xianzhou ... and then witness his master Jingliu becoming a Mara struck and having to fight her. From a group of 5 he was the last remaining ... from a group of 5 heroes to protect and lead the Xianzhou he was the last and for centuries he had to lead it alone bearing the burden alone. He was the one that could become bitter from all of this and yet remained wise and brave and strong. Just respect the guy for still trying to link with his old friends even as different and transformed as they are ... Blade wants to die, Jingliu can lose control and wreak havoc everywhere and Dan Heng doesn't remember them much and wants to leave on the Astral Express. And on top of that he had to face one of the Hunt bigger crisis with Phantilya. And will have to deal with Luocha"s plot during Jingliu trials X) Dude just can't catch a break
Funny enough, despite this being Jingliu's quest, that final bit where you actually get to briefly see what's in Blade's head, combined with the full context of how he became who he is, made him my favorite character in the game. I think, to me, it was the hardest hitting cutscene in the game.
Jing Yuan watching his friends kill each other, Dan Heng standing in the shadow of the High Elder and Yingxing taking over Blade for a brief moment before he dies. Perfection.
I really didn't expect a fully fledged animated cutscene from a side quest, Hoyoverse usually keeps those for main story but god damn is this one beautiful
This story plot and cutscenes are among the best I've seen, especially for a "gacha game" which lives in a genre so often accused of being just casinos with the actual game being an afterthought.
Jingyuan is that little brother in the group of adult friends.. kinda sad to see the people that he looked upon turned into this specially since he's like the youngest out of them 5.
Not necessarily. Foxian average about couple hundreds year, yingxing/blade wasn't of any long life species so depends on how long it takes for xianzhou people to mature and so on and so forth jingyuan could be way older than baiheng and is definitely way older than blade, but the fact that he was left alone in the end would not change
The whole group have one of the best lore cause bailu is part of it. You know the fox girl blade do experiment on it for the réincarnation cycle and corrupted her force jingliu to kill baiheng multiple time until she totaly fuse with the réincarnation cycle who give birth to bailu.
Bailu is the réincarnation of baiheng who jingliu was forced to mutilate and kill multiple time cause of blade crime. That why blade deserve all the suffering he have. He is the reason jingliu go full berserk mode. He litteraly forced her to kill and mutilate her lover multiple time to save her.
I just had a few takeaways from this video after 0:43 It must be pretty upsetting for Jing Yuan to see his old comrades fighting each other like this. While Dan Heng behind the statue shows he is a shadow of his previous life. To see how much the high cloud quintet had fallen…
There's a diary written by Baiheng, titled "Views of the Universe from a Starskiff: Xianzhou Zhuming". You can found all 3 parts in Yukong office. Then read it by going to Pause the game > books.
It's been a while since this cutscene, but seeing it again after half a year, i forgot how heavy this is. The quick shots of JY and Dan, man they told an awesome story here with such a heavy hearted feeling.
Jing liu just casually weaving Blade's skill is so clean. Jing yuan looking up while Jing liu and blade was fighting was sad and Dan Heng standing in the statue of Imbibitor Lunae's shadow is poetic, I love it!
I swear, this quest did Blade more justice than the rest of the Luofu questline could ever hope to do. Between this and the Belobog quest, I’m cautiously optimistic that we’ve left Star Rail’s Inazuma. The writing feels a lot better and more satisfying.
Fr, after finishing this companion quest, all my worries about the writing for this game (mainly the Xianzhou arc) just vanished. We are definitely in for a ride
I'm pretty sure Luofu is just the beginning of the whole Xianzhou arc as Xianzhou is a hexafleet with Fanghu, Xuling, Yaoqing, Yuque, and Zhuming. The Luofu arc was underwhelming compared to Belobog as Belobog is a planet of its own and has an independent storyline whilst the Luofu is just 1/6 of Xianzhou arc. From Jingliu's story quest, we also hear that Luocha's trial will take place in Xuling hinting that there will be more to come. In the Myriad Celestia Trailer, the arrangement of Aeons has Yaoshi as the fourth Aeon (that we'll presumably meet) so the whole Xianzhou vs Abundance isn't going to end soon and they're only building it up right now.
@@healingforeveryone8275FINALLY! Someone who get it! Luofu arc is like the very beginning of a big series which is Xianzhou in overall, people (players) also disappointed by the fact that we didn’t get Hunt MC but considering how we still have 5 Xianzhou ships left to go, we will eventually get one in one day!
@@Sawashiii_ Nothing happens. Blade just comes back to life because he's immortal. The game hasn't shut up about his immortality for months now. Did you miss that part of his character somehow? He's also Yingxing, the blacksmith from the past who is brought up a few times in this companion mission.
@@jackmanleblanc2518 I just joined the game last month so I'm a bit clueless about his lore and all the videos I search up are so filled with theories that it's hard to find out which part is canon and which is not
@@Sawashiii_ A lot of the theories were confirmed in this new companion mission. And by a lot, I mean all of them because none of them were really theories. It was all info you could find in the game if you read all the lore bits that I never bothered reading myself.
Right!? The game literally dropped a big lore bomb but nobody is talking about it. Blade tried to use the Shuhu's flesh to resurrect an old friend, yet those flesh ended up inside him with no traces of it left behind. Doesn't anyone find it suspicous? How did it end up inside him? Unless... Blade consumed the emanator's flesh to gain the power of the emanator. Remember, Shuhu once revived a dead planet, that same planet destroyed Jingliu's home. Blade probably tried to gain that power to revive Baiheng, but ended up backfiring on him. Blade being part emanator right now is probably why he's important to Elio's script. And Blade was really weak willed, making all that speech about none of them are special, comforting Dan Feng about Baiheng's death and telling him to move on, yet ended up assiting Dan Feng in trying to resurrect her. I guess the telephatic bracers transmitted Dan Feng's grief and he ended up changing his mind.
I don't blame blade for what he did because before he lost everything his family friends home planet all gone he just wanted to save one person and it back fired on him now he can't even rest in peace and is in pain everyday because of it
And blade was somehow very attached to Baiheng because he knew her since he was a child, the gift Jingliu left on the starskiff in the quest was made by blade and he could never give it to Baiheng because he was to shy lol (This was shown in Blades artefact lore)
Out of the whole group, I would say Dan Feng got away the easiest, he did not suffer anything but actually the main cause of the whole thing. Then put all the blame down to his reincarnation to deal with, getting rebirth is simply not enough, apparently painless even if forceful. The more the lore of dan Feng unfold the more I dislike him, actually screw that, IT'S Yaoshi, she must be perished.
@@SpedRockt He became a sinner from a hero. They cut his horns off and descaled his dragon scales then gave him basically a death sentence. If you believe dan feng is not the same as dan heng, then dan feng, the person is kind of dead. If you believe he's still part of dan heng, then he's living the same continuous punishment and tragedy as Blade. Besides, I don't understand why dan feng is getting blamed the most for everything when it was both his and Blade's idea and it was actually blade who pressed more on it. Dan feng was researching ways for vidyadhara to return to reproduction from rebirth but he wasn't planning on using his dead friend's remains as test materials. Baiheng sacrificed her life for him during the battle with the emanator, while he was caught in a dragon delirium. He was guilt ridden and mourning. Blade couldn't accept it either as he says in the cutscene. It was him who asks dan feng for and researches a way to resurrect Baiheng from vidyadhara archives. They do it, fail and now are paying greatly for the mistake.
@@kcb_baebae5885 I feel like Jingliu had it the worst tbh. Once a hero now just known as a mara-struck traitor. She was the sword champion, was nicknamed the Transcendent Flash, a once in *ten millenia* hero. She even contributed greatly in building the reputation of the Cloud Knight itself. She even protected Xianzhou from the abomination that Dan Feng & Blade made, essentially off killing her own precious friend. She eventually got mara struck because of the terrible memory of her world getting destroyed + all the shit she had to go through watching her friend die, resurrected as a monster, and killing her again. Her records were all wiped out like she never existed and she was labeled as traitor, then lost her mind and got slammed by her previous student. And from the looks of it, she may not get a "good" ending too. If you consider Dan Feng ≠ Dan Heng, then he practically got the sweet release of death, which Blade & Jingliu would probably want. If Dan Feng = Dan Heng, then sure he's still alive, but he's not getting punished anymore. Even the Xianzhou acknowledged him now. While Jingliu lived but still suffering from her mara- worsened by terrible memories, treated as if she never existed and only got labeled as a traitor.
@@LauderIX Well, Jingliu is the oldest continuously living of the bunch. Her suffering had more time to accumulate. But much of it has to do with Mara and not the quintet tragedy. Even without this painful story, she'd have gone crazy anyway. So would Jingyuan if nothing is done about it. So if you consider dan feng 'death' is sweet release making it easier, it could be argued that Jingliu's current situation isn't so bad either as it's kind of stable rn with whatever Luocha cooked for her...if we consider dan heng continuation of dan feng, he's only got permission to come back to luofu but he's not safe. He can't get rid of his past and he'd be haunted, literally by factions with interest. It's also said that he's actually a continuation because the preceptors messed with his rebirth. Dan heng is just trying to separate the past cause guilt and ptsd. The only reason we see dan feng in a negative light is cause he held a high position and was the face of the tragedy. And, when we see him, it's from dan heng's pov who criticizes and blames his old self. Like Bailu said, there was a soft side and it's never shown. ...anyway, it's not a competition. All of them had it bad in various degrees and it's still going. I was just saying that dan feng is not the main or sole culrpit.
Does any one else not notice the scene where Jing Liu is sharing drinks with her friends in the beginning where she is smiling and probably the last time she was happy 😭😭
its amazing for the high cloud quintet, Blade and Jingliu are fighting, Jing Yuan is the only one in the light, even dan heng is in the shadow of high elder statue. Jing Yuan is the one and only left for the high cloud quintet.
Grief is but a natural yet very cruel reality for all of us. Grief made them do impossible things, abominable things. For them who's lives transcend time, they forgot about grief. At least they thought they did. When it finally came down to it they didn't know how to handle it. I honestly can't blame any of them for what they've done. Grief is a cruel fate, that can turn even the strongest of us into monsters.
Blade is definitely going to play a huge part in the story along with the rest of the stellaron hunters. I do think he’s probably the 2nd weakest of the high could quintet, but that group from what we’ve see has complete monsters. I do see him eventually getting his revenge and defeating Jing Liu since that’s a big part of the story, maybe he’ll unlock a new form when the mara goes completely out of control with possibly making even Kafka feel fear which is what she is trying achieve. I do see blade dying :( eventually in the story
true, Yinqxing (blade) was the only mortal hence the old appereances in flashbacks... probs Jing Yuan was the weakest bcs of him being the youngest and inexperienced

@@girl.....did you not play this quest? Before this cutscene, it is made clear that they are only fighting because Blade WANTS her to try and kill him. Jingliu, however, refuses to just outright slaughter someone who obviously wants it and demands that he fight back if that’s his request. Is Jingliu the better fighter? Probably but this fight is also not a good indicator because we know Blade has no intention of winning and would presumably not be going all out.
I just finished this quest 10 minutes ago, but dear god, this one was heavy. I thought it was going to be just another happy go get em quest. Boy, was I wrong. This was some of the most quality content I've seen in a mobile game in a while. (Haven't played the other 2 games) Good to see all that money is being used right. I just can't get enough of this 😁
Reminds me of how Sayori’s death changed everything in Doki Doki Literature club. She was the glue. The heart. Without the heart, nothing works anymore. In Honkai and Genshin, whenever someone tried to bring back someone they loved from death, but it always never works out the way they want it it and it brings unimaginable horrifying consequences that affects not just them, but the whole world.
I just realized something. The animation in genshin is much more fantasy and cartoon-like compared to honkai star rail. Like in this cutscene, the atmosphere, the shadows, and the quality, you can really differentiate it from genshin's. In which I find really cool, the respective designs fitting the games' themes and vibes!
Surprisingly, I thought the exact opposite. Compared to genshin cutscenes, it looks like they put more effort into effects and saturation so that they can make them more anime or cartoon-like.
I feel like Jing Yuan is the only one who survived, while the remaining of his friends are now different, he's now left behind. Now he will carry that loneliness for the rest of his days.
Story skipper here, i thought jingyuan is a human how did he become a living fossil though? All i know is that danheng and blade are the new reincarnations of their past lives lol
@@elliemiller_69 most people on the Xianzhou are long-living. They are all cursed to live long lives and eventually become monsters (assuming they don't die before then.). Foxians and Vidyadhara are also long-living, but differently. So all 3 races live together.
Really hope Jing Liu story continues with companion quests at least , or even in main story again some day , i mean if the main story can go back to Jarillo , it can go back to any of the other planets some day .
She and Luocha are definitely gonna show up again, from this companion quest we know that both are trying to get on board the Xuling, which is the mysterious Xianzhou ship that never reports its location to the rest of the fleet. Hence Jingyuan is sending her to the Yuque instead just to fuck with their plan, but just for now.
The death of Baiheng started their friendship's decent and all the negative events that followed. Im convinced Bailu is Baiheng reincarnated. I need Bailu in my roster.
I really wish they put this story in the main quest, not a character side quest for promoting Jingliu's banner. The setting is like an anime that was happy and lighthearted for 10 straight episodes then suddenly sh*t hit the fan at the 11th, and now you're at the 20th ep and thinking back to those first 10 happy episodes again.
Both Yingxing and Lunae must have loved Baiheng so much. So much so they ruined themselves. Jing liu couldnt handle seeing them fall apart, and she herself gave out. Jing Yuan, left to watch all of them to suffer.
Crazy how people think Jingliu was going all out here, she didnt use her greatsword or let her sanity slip, you could call fhis a fight between friends tbh both of them knew the outcome
Foxian race always gave a great scar to people around them. I finished both Yukong and Jingliu companion missions at the same time. Ciayi to Yukong, and now Baiheng to High-Cloud Quintet. Both are tragically painful story.
Funny how people be sh!ting on Yanqing for even dreaming to be able to beats these 2, but he was atleast able to barely survive which is actually such a great feat considering he is probably still probably 13 or so.
So well executed... I feel for Blade man. Not even given the mercy of a swift death, forever forced to live eternal with the sins of his past and the mara only driving him further into madness.. At least Jinglui will finally find some release after this when she is sent off... The rest of the surviving members of the High Cloud Quintet have to keep moving forward making whatever small peace they can with the events that led to such a lonely departure from each others lives along with all the regrets they must carry as a result.. A lonely and difficult journey I have no doubt. Great storytelling as per usual MiHoYo. Keep them writers well paid and happy. as they they are delivering. ^_~
yeah this is honkai alright honestly when I heard of this game my first thought was “maybe it won’t be as sad and dark” but It wouldn’t have honkai in its name if it wasn’t
this cutscene was amazing, blade is my favorite character and i hate the misconception that he's just some emo edgelord who is immortal. no. there is so much more to his character, and i don't think he's all bad. he's done bad things, but inside there's only suffering and remorse for who he once was.
Same, Blade is also a favorite character _😆_ , in my opinion I think that Blade is very wasted by the developers, I would love for them to put in a companion mission for him telling us more about his relationship with Baiheng and Dan Feng or about destruction from his home planet, I think we are going to see more of his participation in the story, because he follows Elio's script we are going to cross paths with him a couple of times in the future, I just hope he doesn't die yet
