Yes, it can take a long time. Our dogs got into a terrible fight. Had to separate for a week and keep them on leashes. It was mentally exhausting for us. Finally, the we could go on walks, which helped us and the dogs, honestly. Then we were able to use desensitization and conditioning with hotdogs to get them to a place where they were snuggle buddies again. So many hotdog bits. The “hotdog therapy “ as we called it, took a month but very worth it.

Straight be correcting for aggression and putting them together in a calm state

The "calm, submissive state" mentality is really damaging. Acting calm and being calm are two different things. Being forced to act subdued and submissive doesn't fundamentally change their emotions towards the other dog. They're just temporarily more focused on the human punishing them. True attitude adjustments take time, like JJ said. It's embarrassing how many "trainers" are proud to just crank on a choke chain or stim the heck out of the dog to stop a behavior. It's like a parent who constantly screamed at their crying child "you stop that right now or I'll give you something to cry about!" then wonder why their kid moves out at 18 and never speaks to them again.

My dog Hoosier is 7 years old my other dog Ruger is 2 years old. Hoosier is always attacking Ruger. I can’t get Hoosier to stop. Ruger was a puppy when I got him and he grew up with Hoosier. Ruger gave Hoosier hell Pestering the hell out of him while he was growing up. If anyone has any suggestions please share with me I don’t want my dogs fighting like this. Hoosier is a Shorkie and Ruger is a Yorkshire they both may have small dog complexes if that’s even a thing..

Let me add this Hoosier is a bossy demanding little shit. Ruger is just chill he hardly never barks unless they fight then Ruger screams like something I never heard before. Hoosier is always starting the fights and Ruger would be standing under me or near me. They fight every time I go grocery shopping as I’m bringing the bags in and putting the groceries up a fight will break out. I can’t do treats no more because a fight will break out. I heard of food wars but Ruger doesn’t seem to be guarding his food Hoosier guards both bowls they Don’t have a assigned food bowls I just put 2 bowls down because of them fighting to give them so space while eating. Now I have to feed them separate.. I don’t know what to do somebody please help me!!

Are they neutered? I have 3 males that were constantly bickering, with fights breaking out. I got them all fixed, and the change is wonderful. I also have 3 separate cages, they each have their own, and they LOVE them. It's their own personal space, they have a rawhide bone in them, and several times a day they will just go in and chill, or nap or want to chew on their bone. I also feed them in their cage, when everyone is done, I let them right back out. Also, if there is anyone being aggressive at all, (usually Junior) I put that one in their bed, and I tell him 'You DONT FIGHT. You have to be NICE.' It works really well, gives whoever is being a jerk a little time to cool off. I know it's been 5 months, no one answered you, I hope this helps! 😊

Besides the walks and keeping them separate. What else can I do? My 9 year old boxer is NOT getting along with my girlfriends 9month old Pit Bull. Her dog is bigger and stronger so I’m worried about my boxer getting hurt. The first introduction was awesome! We went hiking and they were best friends. But now they just want to fight. They’re both now in my home which the boxer has been raised in as the only male dog.

Please feel free to help me out. My boyfriend and I live in separate houses and 2 months ago we got two puppies from the same litter. They are small dog breeds. His puppy was the biggest of the litter and mine was the runt. When we introduced them, both puppies were lifting their lips and his puppy bit me in attempt to bite my pup. If his had bitten mine, mine would have been severely injured. He was very very small. Now that 2 months have passed without them even seeing eachother, I want to reintroduce them, but I am afraid a fight breaks out. What should I do?

So my 2 boys (full brothers, different litters, Red Dobes at 100 lbs and 90 lbs - not fat at all) have been separated almost a year now. At 14 months, younger one tried to take over. The older one is super laid back, but also wasn't going to let him take over. We're now muzzles off in the same room as long as they're calm. (Found a vet to neuter the younger one right when Covid first started). The day of his surgery, he snapped at my husband - took it as the anesthesia). The younger one seems to have a split personality like normally you'd only see with a smaller dog - pet me now, then I'm going to nail you like not even 5 seconds later). We get them to play outside or at the dog club with muzzles on for about 20 minutes now. My older one wants to grab the neck and put the younger one on the ground. Any suggestions for getting them to play outside with muzzles off? At the club, before getting released, I ask for something simple, like sit beside me, when they do - Free - go play. We also have a Beagle/JRT mix that rules the roost and probably instigates things. I do agility with her so don't need her getting hurt. Want to do Agility with the boys, but right now working on getting them to like the tunnel. Older one would probably be a better barn hunter and he is also a therapy dog - airport and college students.

My dogs were together since my baby was born. They were father and son. After 2-3 years since 2022 I've had to separate them. Bc they will fight until exhaustion if they accidentally come in contact. I'm at a hopeless state of ever getting them back together again. The dad was such a doting daddy abd they did well so long. There came a jealousy over me.. hindsight 20/20 I was treating them fairly and unintentionally messed up the pack leadership. Dad shoulda stayed as alpha dog. I didn't know this and now I dont know how to undo it. It's so sad.

Hi there. If fights happen from one of my dogs seemingly protecting my wife, who should be the one who walks the aggressor dog after reintroduction? Husband or wife? Thanks!

I am here because my two female dogs who are siblings were in a bad fight the other one even had deep cuts. They were in heat and I seperated them for a week now. And every time they see each other they just want to kill each other. They are not even leash trained and that's my fault. Does caging them next to each other with half a meter gap work?
