Years ago..I am guessing mid 70s an ad showed in a local paper: Leon Russell in town doing a gig.. at a local club in DC. We went and there he was..very small crowd. I was in total awe. The venue was so small that some people actually got up and danced. just unreal. those were really the good old days at least for our generation.

I was there. I ran one of the cameras and also edited the final show as you see it here. We had one of the very first computerized video editing facilities around. I wired up helped design that facility. That was in 1979 in Burbank, CA. Steve Ripley recorded and mixed the sound. There were about 6 or 8 other people involved in this production and none of us received any credit - NONE.Our names are not on the titles. Instead a bunch of other people are listed as director, producers, editors etc and I've never heard of any of them. No one by those names was ever around that studio in the 5 years I worked there from 1977 till 1981 and trust me none of them had anything whatsoever to do with the production of this video. Where's Diane Sullivan's name? Jack Jester? Tom Kemp? Gordon Rudd? I was there. What gives? WTF?

That is what happens when you work with a bunch of guys who are drugged out of their gourds. Only the dope providers receive the recognition. I appreciate your time and expertise. It was nice listening.
@michaeljohnstone6830
@michaeljohnstone6830 9 лет назад
Which drugged out guys are you referring to? It wasn't the audio/video crew - I can attest to that. It wasn't the musicians. Many musicians don't partake and if they ever did it was way back in the 60s when they were young and was long since put aside. These here musicians are like that. I know them all personally. If you played in their bands and were found to do drugs you were fired immediately. You will find that the better the musicians - the less foolishness is tolerated. It's hard enough to play music this well when sober. Same is true with highly technical jobs like audio/video.The work is too demanding to be accomplished if you are high or drunk. So again - what are you talking about? What I am pissed about is that 30 some years after this show was played,recorded,edited and finished it fell into someone's hands who put their names on it, released it and are making money off it as if they - not we - were responsible for it's existence. It's not about drugs,drug "providers" or whatever you're talking about. It's about money and honesty.

You choose to view a clip that you know is JJ Cale and proceeded to later on complain you're kind of bored with him and others. We all have different tastes in music, but I just don't understand the need to go to a specific presentation and explain how you don't care for that musician. We all have equally valid interest in various types of music, and you're certainly entitled to your opinion. Not trying to start an argument just curious what your motive was when you posted that. They both filled the old Long Beach Auditorium to the rafters. Now at almost 80 I will be in the front row at Centrum's Acoustic Blues Festival at that Old Blimp Hanger they call McCurdy Pavillion here in Port Townsend. @@danielhickman2583 It's enough to just say that I'm a huge fan 🙂 Songwriting is just such a broad spectrum! I think JJ had his very own unique style which even Eric Clapton followed with a certain amount of awe. I'll bet there are many big names out there who were inspired by this man. Mark Knopfler is another. These sessions are really classic JJ Cale at just the right time. Nice to see him getting 5 million views. That's a lot of views for a guy who didn't even enjoy promoting his new albums by touring, etc. When you hear him chatting away in between songs, you can tell he's enjoying it all a great deal ♥

I guess that once JJ started collecting song writing royalties he might have thunk to himself that he could just slide on by. He was unknown to most of us for a time. Yet another good reason to read liner notes, when you can get them. That seems to be a thing of the past. Bands used to include the names of instruments and musicians on the recordings and I used to study them. You might be surprised at what you can learn from liner notes. Liner notes is a term from back in the time of vinyl LP records.

We saw Dylan a few years back at The Edgfield Oregon, near Portland. I never got to see any Beatles. I saw Aerosmith and Neil Young. Then more recently we saw U2 in BC Vancouver. That was mind blowing 🤷🏼‍♀️☮️💟☯️

In the 1960’s UK music scene I was attracted by the likes of Lightening Hopkins and that led to a life long love of John Mayall and the subsequent discards from his bands basically filled my collections. Along side thus I was keen on ballads and folk misic, partly because if an art teacher that was involved in the UK folk scene and a desire to return to self sufficiency which included musical instruments. I am a fan of Leon Russell and JJ Cale seemed to bridge several parts of my own music appreciation.
